Oldsmobile update. Still waiting for the replacement rear spring from Canada, although it is actually in the UK now apparently.

Spent a quality hour with the car yesterday cleaning and re attaching various droopy bits of trim and headlining (using high temperature Trimfix adhesive spray). The whole interior smelled damp again, so have put a couple of B and M bargains finest 99p dehumidifiers inside until I clean/dry the carpets. Fixed the non working interior light, bonnet release cable and fitted a NOS chrome grille ($19.99 plus shipping) to replace the broken one. As it was still slightly not raining I had a go at opening the boot. No chance. No sign of any remote opening cable so only option was to gain access via the rear seat. Four bolts saw the seat squab and backrest out leaving a handy crawl space for access. Boot now open! Didn't take a pic as nothing in the boot apart from damp smelly carpet, two plastic bottles and a large sense of disappointment! Removed the lock assembly in preparation for new lock cylinder. Mysteriously the spring gubbins that holds the boot lid open is completely missing, meaning the lid is heavy as fook and needs propping up when open. Odd.

Removed boot carpets for cleaning and left another 99 pence worth of dehumidifier in there. Once the weather sorts itself out I will be spending a pleasant* day cleaning and shampooing the seats, carpets etc. ( It smells like a rabbit hutch inside, I used to keep rabbits as a kid. The smell took me back 45 years...) Am provisionally booked in with local friendly garage for the rear spring fitting/transmission gasket, fluid and filter replacing.

Had a fail moment this morning. Missus car is due a service. Spot of nice weather first thing. So I made a start. Woops, there's a hole in my bucket. Approx three litres of oil to clean up.post-6586-0-29946700-1452258364_thumb.jpg

Found an old bag of cat litter in the garage from when we had a cat. Worked a treat. Glad I never threw it out.

We have went from non stop rain to snow flakes the size of tennis balls, looks like decorating this weekend instead of car fettling.

The Smart still isn't back, although it should be sometime next week, which is good as tonight on the way home the Land Rover has developed an intermittent metallic jingling noise somewhere under the left hand front.

I can't see anything obviously loose/hanging off and the steering/brakes seem unaffected. It doesn't seem related to power on/off, or to any particular speed. If it stops raining for long enough I shall crawl under it tomorrow for a better look. Hopefully it is nothing serious as I can do without having both cars off the road at the same time.

I've been offered a scruffy Peugeot 306 I sold back,

It needs an alternator, coil pack and at a push, a gearbox.

Being a 1.4 pez, is it worth the hassle?

Financially no, for a run around possibly yes unless it needs a gearbox. While I quite liked the one I had I thought the 1.4 was gutless.

Buy it, that´s a "proper" US-car (V8, RWD) and it´s very cheap. At least for continental Europe.

At that price I'm struggling to find a reason not to do it! Where abouts is it?

Ooof, 1500 quid is a bargain for that.   I could get $5000 all day long in Texas with that condition and mileage.

Friggin hell you've got me wanting the bastard now   Number on the van doesn't relate to the owner btw

I've got the cash for that Caprice, but no space and I'm at the wrong end of the country.

I'll buy it for you Eddy, you can pay me back when you can!

I'm sure I won't have to become a loan shark and come looking for you with my trusty drill!!

I know, how weak-willed am I?  Temptation, get thee behind me... or at least, find me a cheap lightbar!

Whoa.... guys.... cool the fuck down and get your hands out from down the back of the couch  :-D   , I had a 2 minute chat with the old guy driving it so don't know any more than I've said already. I'll report back if I see him about tomorrow, he could have been chatting shit for all I know given the values quoted above !

Seemed quite pricey compared to some of the american shit I've seen advertised, lol

I've moved my furniture around today, there was money under the recliner chair (a whole 5p).  I would like to know more, though, and see more pics.  Pretty please?

The caprice is ridiculously cheap.

I would buy it simply to push others off the road - £1500 and it's V8 powered. You couldn't buy a knackered camaro for that.

I spent today in approximately 1985; got up, found it was -6 outside, had to use a lighter heat the key to get the door of the car open. I then sprayed deicer on the outside windows, then more deicer onto a cloth to take the ice off the inside of the windscreen. I then drove to work with the windows open, periodically stopping to further deice the inside of the windscreen as I have no heaters or demisters, all whilst my arse was roasted off me in the only heating the car has.

Naturally I got to work, found it was too fucking cold to cock about in the workshop, spent most of the day in the office doing all the paperwork I've been putting off before having to drive home with the window open again, in the snow this time, still with no heating or demisting, because I am the twat who thought it was too cold to work on the car inside during the day.

I bloody love the 340 but it's too fucking cold for this shit.

I had the same pissin' problem on my 360 this morning.

Tried heating key with lighter but couldn't get in the drivers side, eventually managed to get in the passengers side after heating the key.

Fuck it, I'll buy that and save on a rental next time I'm back... then I'll repatriate it.
