I've often wondered if the Renaultsport stuff is taken off the line to be built as they always get good reviews and rarely see them for sale totally broken. The previous generation of type-r is getting cheap now. I know they're not the best in class and all that but the interior makes you feel like you're piloting an x-wing.

Those electronic egr valves suffer with the plastic gears inside electrical cover breaking up . The valve itself jams but the motor keeps turning so breaks the gears . If you make a tin plate to blank the egr flow and drive it you will see if it's an egr fault . It will eventually bring the mil on with an insufficient egr flow code but a useful diagnostic test

We have a winner!!! Matt was all for taking it up the garage but I am in a moody so refused to let it go. I poked around but chickened out with the turbo... Not 100â„… sure where you insert the Mr muscle, and if you'd seen my oven you'd know me and Mr Muscle aren't on very friendly terms. Anyway.

I took the EGR apart and it has chewed up the first few and a good chunk of the middle teeth on the plastic gears.

Ordering a new EGR now.

Thanks all!

Louise, I'm glad it's sorted.

There was a pic on the link I posted on where to put the Mr. Muscle.

I have read around and looked at videos but it just looks scarier in real life!!

I might try it... WCPGW???

Honestly though thanks everyone for helping me out, I've been in a proper moody and not fixing the car yesterday was about the final straw. Thanks to you guys I feel like I'm at least getting somewhere with it!! This place etc etc ;)

If the car runs fine with the new egr I wouldn't bother with the mr muscle until it needs it

Happy Birthday Crusty Sills.

In other news I have purchased 11 copies of car mechanics from 1992 - I like looking back to a time when you could do proper work on a car yourself.

Glad it was this rather than you getting bent over for a recon VNT turbo.

It's why I bought a petrol A6. That I never use.

 Happy birthday.

Is it not 52 piece? I was having a butchers at a small set in Didldidi this morning whilst out for some milk. Managed to resist it and the bench grinder and just come home with some wood drill bits.

Yep you are correct, 52 piece.

Maybe some glasses would have been better!!

When I got the 850 it had this JVC stereo that didn't look right, especially with the stick-on silver stuff.

I removed the silver stuff and fitted my trusty Blaupunkt that's served me for ten years and six cars. Better.

Last week I managed to get hold of a Volvo Premium Sound System CD/Cassette/Radio.

Having CD and cassette in the dash does away with the need for a CD changer in the boot, but I had one lying around so it seemed rude not to.

I need to tidy the wiring up but it works perfectly and is happy to play CD-Rs, even over bumps. The Volvo "I Am Rolling" CD has taken up permanent residence in Slot 6.

Been 'new' car shopping with my lad today. He's got his heart set on a BMW 630 (2007-ish) but manual ones with reasonable mileages are few and far between, plus he's not keen on the £465 (or whatever it is) road tax.

We went to Vauxhalls where he likes the Astra GTC, I had a blimp at the very latest Astras and had to almost force myself not to sign up for one because I can't afford it.

My cousin who is a trader told me that bmw never used to offer them through their approved used scheme, as they cost too much to put back to retail standards when they came in as a px and were nearly always punted on via auction to avoid any comebacks.

These were the earlier 645's though don't know if the later ones were any better.

He was offered a 650 mega cheap, but he wouldn't touch it as apparently the engines drink like a old twin spark and are well known as being expensive to put right.

There lookers though aren't they. Plus a young lad is guaranteed to get a nice**** young lass driving a 6 series.

The OMG VOLVO SOUND BOX is the best factory-fitted head unit I have ever had in a car. I like it so much that I kept TV2's one for posterity when I sold the car :)

He looked at the 4.4 ones but decided they'd probably a bit heavy on fuel (compared to the incredibly efficient 3.0 petrol!) so sacked that idea off. It's all going to depend on the loan he seems to think is a formality, and he's now weighing up the GTC Limited Edition model, albeit a second hand one.

Obviously his current car has helped, but his girlfriend is a smashing lass, he couldn't have done better if he'd tried.

What's up with the 6 series, please? He's currently scrolling through Autotrader as fast as his mouse will let him and was just now going on about twin turbos!

Sunday morning walk to leith hill followed by Citroen car club lunch at the Stephan Langton in Friday street. 2 2cvs, a dyane and DS plus a c4. Nice pub and good food (with Surrey prices) but beer wasn't too dear and the place has just been taken over by the owners of the tillingbourne brewery.

Came back from a four day bender and I've found the A4 in the garage with a wheel off, and a driveshaft and a lot of other gubbins scattered about.

Old Man is pretty much incapable of finishing any job on that car, if he even starts one...

I'm guessing that's Ed's recently refurbed Charleston? Desperately needs side stripes!

Indeed. Its first trip out since being put together. I had been tripping over it in the previous owner's workshop for years and years so it's good to see it on the road. I pointed out the door trims and ed pointed to them on the back seat!

Of the four cars I own not a single one has a consistently functioning nearside numberplate light... Must be fate.

Do any of the Irish shiters on here know any decent scrapyards that I could ramble around in over here? I have a week off work with little to do. If only Ger Reids place in Kildare was still open....

Bought a minging derv estate for £almost nowt and it's actually pretty good. I've sold 1:18 models for more than this 1:1 scale car cost me.

FATHA_DUG needs a 'disposable car' to help with some house renovation - I might just keep it.

I couldn't afford a carport for my third car.

So I grew one.
