We have just been offered a new car.

A friend of my FIL has passed away, his widow can't drive and just wants the car out of the garage as she can't bear to look at it. She has asked my wife's uncle to sell it.

The car in question is a 59 plate Mini John Cooper Works with as i am told he ticked almost every box on the list of extra's,as it would be his last car and wanted it fully loaded.

Cost £5500. The wife's uncle has gone away for the weekend so getting more details will have to wait at the moment.

Have any of you lot had anything to do with a John Cooper Works, now i know it is modern and this is Autoshite not pistonheads, but you are a knowledgeable lot that get to drive some cars.

Talk to me..

Edit a quick Auto trader gives

Price is about average - it isn't a bargain so there isn't anything to be made punting it on. Only buy it if you actually want one.

I'm after an Alfa GTV. Had them previously and always regretted selling up and moving on, yes I know that all alfas are shit etc but I love them. Anyway, one popped up fairly local so with a pass out from swmbo. I went to take a look.

Unfortunately it was fucked. Terminal Rot in both inner sills/mounts. Seller was a good sort and apologetic when pointed out. I offered him a cheeky £200 on the basis I'd use it as a breaker when I find the right one and because I liked the wheels. After much sucking of teeth and me pointing out I didn't really want a fucked one and was quite happy to leave him to sell to someone else (I was quite happy to walk away) I am now the owner of this....

It photographs well, the reality is its a breaker. Many good parts though, historied engine, good box, insured it for the day and drove it the 30 odd miles home no worries.

The interior is utterly bolloxed though...

I was in the market for something like that a while back and test drove a couple JCWs. If that's what you are looking for then they're great, it pulled well, rode about as well as you'd expect (fairly firm) and at that money you can't go too far wrong, it's a fair stab less than the ones I was looking at were but they were from dealers.

£5500 for a 59 JCW sounds very good to me - our modestly specced 60 plate Cooper 1.6 was listed in a Mini main dealer for £9500 with two owners and 15000 miles. Considering it's probably a very well cared for car, I'd say go for it.

All this Bini talk, what you really want is Daihatsu, and I just happen to know where the only Storia X4 for sale in the country is, and it's up for a very reasonable *£3.5k  ;)

*£3k without the carbon bonnet

I know it's only one picture but that looks far too good to break....

I know it really does photo well. Trust me it's banjaxed, I've put floors, sills and major body parts into AlfaSuds, this GTV just isn't worth the investment to put right compared to what you can buy a nice one for, and it will always have 185,000 miles on it. Bits will live on saving a more worthy example.

Got a message from the guy I swapped my metro with asking if I'd sell my e36 (the rusty blue one) I said I didn't know, I asked if he still had the Fiat and he said yeah, then he asked if I'd swap for the Fiat...

I have been at Little Gransden Airshow today, half the flying display was cancelled due to weather and lots of wet cars but I still enjoyed the day.

If anyone here had actually wondered why all the population of New Zealand seem to drive cars imported from Japan as used cars, the numbers tell the story.

First time sales of used imported passenger cars Jan to July 2015     84,435  up 14% over last year

Sales of new cars For the same period                                                53,651  up 4%             "

Even the manufacturing giants such as Toyota import used cars from Japan !

Ten minutes in to advertising my car I get a crap offer. An hour in and I get 'what's your best price?' question.

I stuck up a spotted thread over an old Rover site I used to frequent. 99% of my spots were Rover 800s being as that is what the site is about. Most of the 800s I'd ever spotted have not been taxed since between 2011 and 2013, there are literally about 2 to 3 cars still taxed with an equal number on SORN, the rest have been untaxed since between 2011/13 or not showing up the system.

Yes, my 800s are a burden on me financially, but I'm glad I've got them.

I've got to find the 2 I saw loitering around Kidderminster and Stourport on the day I moved mine.

The Volvo met one of its relatives this morning:

It's a rare occurrence to have two Volvo 740s in close proximity these days, unless of course you live in Scotland ;)

Pawnote: The car has been on the road for exactly 25 years tomorrow. I wonder how many other cars which were first registered on 1st September 1990 still exist?

That's the one with the private plate isn't it, in one of those roads off Sutton Road opposite Kenbros?

That's the one. Judging by its condition, I don't expect it will be around for much longer.

I'm watching MacGyver and a guy just left prison and there was a K10 Micra 5-door outside. California? I don't think so. It ruined my suspension of disbelief and I've written a formal complaint to OFCOM.

Similarly, I was watching Radiohead's Just music video last night. Nice concept. But why, if it's set in London (which the traffic at the start suggests) is the Policeman from America? They're playing us for fools.

The K10 Micra was sold in Canada, I remember seeing a K10 Micra in the X Files which was shot in Canada. Much confuse.

My wife put "Pacific Rim" on last night, and there is clearly a Ford Ka on the golden gate bridge when it gets destroyed at the beginning of the film. I can't comment on much after that because I fell asleep.

If you look at the credits, it was filmed in Canada. Looked it up, and three series were.

So, I went to pick my daughter up and my Vectra packed up right outside the pub doors. Had a coke, played the bandit, won and it still wouldn't start.

Rang my lad, who's bought his (very nice) bird round for the first time, so she leaves to go home and as my son is 80 yards from our door on his way to me with a fault code reader, and his girlfriend has left, what do you think happened?

The bloody car started and I drove back home. Because Vectra. Sigh.

Spent my lunchtime at work having a bit of a fool around with our photographer and the jag of much beige. Ended up with this rather cool shot!
