Long story so i'll keep it brief, the steering rack on the 50 Plymouth appears not to be centrally mounted and I can't move it to where it should be as the exhaust is in the way. There's not enough adjustment on the outer tie rods to get everything where it should be so the solution is to construct a bracket to reposition the centre tie rods. In order to do this I need to make sure that the front wheels are pointing straight ahead, I'm setting it up so that there's 0 toe in. So it's DIY alignment time using fishing line, 2 lengths of metal conduit and 4 jack stands.

Oh and it's hot here, too hot. The fan in the garage does next to nothing except made a load of noise. This was the temperature in the garage this morning at 10am.

Yep, another old shitbox has entered Trigger Towers today, This afternoon i arranged to go over a friends to help collect my new car that i've bought of him but as i was at a loose end i also offered to give him a hand to removed this Granada first.

It belongs to a customer of his, it was their Grandads car from new and has been in a barn since 2003 after the gearbox started leaking oil, it's only done 63000 miles but it was quite rusty, the plan is to drop it off at a garage so they can go over it, get it running again and see how much it will cost to weld backup.

It was proper pissing it down when we got it to the garage, I found this Mk2 Cortina in a barn in the yard, it's been untaxed since 1985!

The next job was to go down his yard and collect my new car...

Yep, a CVH powered Sierra, I posted about it here a few weeks back you may remember.

We drove it on the trailer and got it back to his workshop near my dad's, It stinks of stale petrol, which isn't a surprise seeing that it's been of the road since 2006, I've put some fresh fuel in it and it's started running better now.

This Transit been of the road since 2005, i drove it up and down the farm lane and it drives really nice actually, the brakes are a bit snachy but other than that it all seems good, The interior needs a good clean though, it's full of spider webs.

The plan is to check it over and see how bad it is, both inner and outer rear sills are shot, god knows how much that will cost to fix, if it's too much then i'll probably either sell as is or strip it down, it did look a lot better after a wash though.

I'd sooner have had the Granada still though!

New arrival today. A stopgap car for SWMBO and a first car for my son, bought from a shady backstreet dealer.

I'm not sure he really gets the Woolard thing.

It's a lot more capable on the motorway than I expected it to be.

lol:) think thats about the slowest its been on the motorway;)

I think it's a good woolard. He would have looked a bit silly if he just pointed to the top coolant pipe whilst you stood there 'owding out yer aaaand'...

any pictures of the grot on the sierra for us rust pervs trigger?

Had my car washed and polished by a couple of Czech chaps the other day (and a cracking good job they did to - all for £6! ) so it was looking smart...

Until Chester happened.

Just got back from a little trip with both back windows open and the car is COVERED in drool all down both sides! You can even tell how fast I was going by how far along and up the back wings the drool has splattered (wonder if the law can use that as evidence in a speeding case?)  and for how long I was stuck in traffic by the sheer quantity running down to the sills!

Little fat bastard!

Been out in this all day -

Done a few miles in it as well. Drives really well, although it's developed a strong fuel smell now in the cabin which I will need to investigate.

Passed quite a lot of old cars out and about and got some approving 'nods', topped by a really cheery wave from an old boy in a Morris 1000 Traveller.

Got to love the simplicity. I could drive this every day ...

It's gone in the normal places, you can push your fingers through the inner sill at the back, It all depends on how much my mechanic will charge me, having seen someone try and sell a K reg 2.0 Ghia 4x4 today which was tatty as hell and with early indicator lenses for £2200 I'm tempted just to sort it!

A friend said that today, It hasn't got to be pretty, just cut out and patched should be enough, I can make it look pretty afterwards.

Saw TV2 (my erstwhile 1997 Volvo V70, which I ostensibly bridged in 2014, due to it having more issues than I could deal with at the time) on the way home from work this evening.

I'm thrilled that the car still exists, has (presumably) been repaired and is in the hands of someone who is looking after it in a similar manner to how I looked after it :)

Trigger - can you get repair panels/replacement sills for the Sierra if it's a common rot place?

If you can get replacement sills that can be welded in that would save a lot of time fabricating. ... This is on  my to do list for the Lancia, the sills are available for that for £50 a side.

You can get rear end outer sill repair panels on eBay but I think it's the inner arches that gone all chewy in this. Stick it in for an mot and see what happens.

MGB GT would not start at Silverstone when it was time to come home, switching on ignition dimmed interior light even with a jump pack and starter would not turn. I had to send for Mrs Cyl with a Volvo estate and tow rope but it still would not go so we towed it the 10 miles home.
