Re BrookJM's Fords as aphrodisiacs comment. Apparently I was conceived in a sit up and beg Prefect and I'm pretty sure my oldest could have been called XR3i rather than Samantha.

We'll have to wait to see if Triggers wee'un is named Tina for a definitive answer there but , anyone else conceived in a car?

If this does all work out then it would have been conceived at a 70s weekender at Pontins on my 35th birthday!

The friend I'm supposed to be sharing the Andy18s V8 Disco with has potentially landed a very good new job that may come with a company car - which could mean the Disco being surplus to requirements quite quickly.  (I'm not backing out of the deal, but might offer it up for sale again in a few weeks.)

However - he's also just cleared out his garage and offered me the use of it as storage space.  Much win!

In good news, Steve the mechanic has advised that he can free off the A35's brakes and that the cylinders are ok/salvageable. In case anyone was unaware, A35 replacement wheel cylinders are handmade out of uranium coated platinum, with diamond pistons and unicorn skin seals* so I am very pleased.

* not really, they are just a bit expensive on what is otherwise a cheap, simple, car and I have very skewed priorities on what I will and won't happily spend money on.

I've got several suitable for reconditioning, if you or any other baby Austin owners ever get stuck. The club does them for about £35 each, so pricey, but once they've been stainless steel lined you'll never have to touch them again, bar the occasional shoe adjustment.

After the SF weekend limping around in the poorly HMS granada, I've had a complete contrast these last few days whizzing about in the Ka.

They share a badge, a colour and rusty sills but have little else in common, apart from each being fun to drive in their own way.....

Having driven both a Ka and a Granada of this era I'd be hard pressed to choose between them.  They are both very different and quite satisfying in totally different ways.  It's sensible to have one of each and shares in welding supplies, sheet steel and underseal.

The XM is not entirely loving its new diet of veg. It's an absolute sod to start in the morning now. Four attempts this morning, and more smoke than Will's 205 on boost. Oh well. An interesting experiment. It's probably eaten its way through 20 of the 40 litres Will put in it now...

I found 40% or so veg and it would run OK but you did need to prime the pump often.

Following comments at the weekend at goodwood, and earlier at brooklands we've just upped the agreed value on the fiat to £6k. They do want an extra £35 a year though.

I've definitely seen that 309 around. Hasn't moved far in its life either, sold new from Curries in Westcliff, which occupied the building on West Road now occupied by Southend Hyundai. Curries sold Peugeot/Talbot cars for many years. Before then it was a Rootes/Chrysler dealership called Holmes and Smith. At least the building is still standing, most old car dealerships have been demolished, including the local Austin/Rover franchise a couple of years back.

It's been owned by an elderly guy all it's life. He is 90 and has given up driving so his grandson is selling it. I was quite surprised it went for so little (as was his grandson).

It will be an interesting drive home that's for certain, it's the furthest I have been for a car (apart from the R14)!

SWMBO has named the Kia "Eddie".

Got my insurance renewal through today - I was dreading it a bit as the underwriter I was with has stopped writing policies and they'd always been the cheapest by quite a margin, but it's actually almost exactly the same price as last year, which is a relief.

Oh, and bit late to the party, but congrats to Trig and Mrs Trig.  Keeping everything crossed for you.

Re: V888 form - I've found an old service book from one of my cars I used to own that I'd like to pass on to the current owner. Does this mean if I fill that form in then they can give me the addresses of the previous owners of the car before I owned it or after? Confusing....

See, it was all about finding one she likes! Now just to teach her to drive...
