A Puma is an itch I've yet to scratch,loved it's bigger brother the Cougar .

I've just agreed to buy a surprisingly rust free (except on one wheel arch) Ford Puma with 11 months MOT, juddery (though strong) brakes and a clutch that is in need of replacement; for £350.

 

Handover is on Friday evening.

 

We can has trackshite, yay.

Can someone put me out of my misery with that Toyota?  I'm thinking it's a Celica but I can't find an example that's quite the same.

Got a new LCD to repair the SAAB climate control unit - sometimes, you can get away with just wedging a strip of foam or something into the ribbon cable but mine, as well as missing segments, had a bleed on the LCD too so whole new panel needed. No problem, £21 delivered - someone is remanufacturing them with a proper PCB ZIF socket on instead of a direct cable-to-board connection.

 

Took the old one apart, the cable was so fragile it just fell off the board. Then realised I have no solder, as soon as I had the whole lot laid out on the kitchen side I remembered using the last of my solder fixing some headphones. 

 

Oh well, the delay in getting to Maplin means I can probably order a decent iron tip too, rather than using a 3mm job.

brake lights now working on the XJ-R, yipee!!

 

have had the switch replaced, minster jaguar say the one for an x300 is NLA so one for a x308 has been used instead.

 

main difference is the x300 one has its wiring harness attached while a x308 doesn't have one fitted.

 

so the new switch has had the original wiring soldered on and then the whole lot slotted away on top of the pedal box.

 

jump in, turn on and foot brake on, park switch comes off and the lights work, when needed!!

Here we go.Not quite mint but pretty tidy.

it seems the someone travelled up with a trailer to buy it but the yard owner wouldn't sell it giving it " na' mate it's not worth my license".

Instead it's sat rotting in the yard for 4 years. Well done.

There's bugger all available in Plymouth and there's a couple of leads on cars I'd like to take up but would be storing them on the street.

Potentially one old motor. I've got nowhere spare dry at the moment, so not going to actively pursue rustbuckets to leave them parked in the rain on the street until I can find somewhere.

I've just agreed a deal to buy a Rebuilt race engine for the Straight 6 Coupé. The 213E Ford engine suffers from having very poor parts availability and pricing tends to reflect that most people who rebuild one have deep pockets.

 

This engine is one of 3 built for historic saloon racing in 1995 its supposedly done less than 300 miles, but has been in storage since then. Its got a stack of paperwork covering a whole bottom end rebuild. Oversize pistons, ported head, repofiled cam etc. Its not cheap by autoshite standards but its probably a fraction of the cost of commissioning all the work today. 

 

The plan will be to run it on the Triple SU setup that I posted about a few months ago.

 

I'll post up some proper details when I go to collect it on Saturday.

Been looking for a cheap runaround for Mrs Hertz as she sold her Beetle a few months back thinking she would be OK using the T25 as everyday transport. She was wrong, no power steering made it quite tough to park and we didn't want to use it in the winter really as it's in really good nick.

 

Anyway a quick look around and I found this just up the road. It's a lovely little thing which will hopefully do the job for a good few years to come. 1.2L  3 pot FTW!

Seems I'm really rather scatterbrained - Old Man's been away for a week , and towards the beginning of this week I was messing about in the Civic taking some dimensions to compare them to a schematic of a Saab 9-3.

 

I forgot to lock it, it's been sitting on the drive unlocked all week- good thing we live in a quiet, decent enough area.

Good thing I remembered as Old Man's back tomorrow.
