^ your XT excites me! Tell me more, I need another quirky un desirable barge that doesnt fit 3 kids in ther back like i need a hole in the head...but, its not stopped me before.

Posted

The XT currently stands me £1300, so I'd be looking for that ... The cars pretty much as it was when I bought it, except more tax/test and not leaking coolant. Here's the f/s thread when i bought it ... link

I've done 2-300 miles in it, but I don't actually like driving it, so it needs to go.

It also comes with a lot of spares, interior, doors, windows, headlights, roof, boot, bumper, shock(s), mirrors, all sorts of stuff.

The spares filled the car and my mates discovery when we collected it.

I'll write a proper ad tomorrow.

Today I bought a rotten Wolseley 1300 to use as a parts donor for my Austin 1300 shell. I now have all the bits needed to build a nice car out of the two!

The Volvo also managed to get 31mpg average out of a full tank accoring to fuelly. GET IN!

Nice one, Tim. Did the Wolseley have leather as seem to recall they were quite posh?

Nah, its all vynil. Still posh though!

T25 Failed MOT on welding. Needs about £400 to get it through. Got it booked in for monday, so as soon as that happens will get it up for sale. Thinking of braving the ebay hordes. Not sure whether to try a No Reserve sale and pull it 24hrs before the end or put it on with a reserve (but then end up answering the same question every 5 minutes)

Did a bit of the welding that the Imp needs today, which is the first it's seen of the welder in 4 months. Mojo return, perhaps? :D

I am currently suffering from The Crazy. At the moment I'm having a sunny spell. To help keep me sane, I seem to have taken it upon myself to build a Princess Register and so far I've managed to find pictures of 76 UK registered aristocratic wedges. Later, I'll go through and update the thread. Oh internet, what would I do without you? I've been surprised at the number of people within the community (both here and on other forums, and in real life) that can empathise and have been sending me messages of support and it is massively appreciated. Maybe next week I'll feel up to doing something more productive with my time, I'm hoping so.

Will shortly be heading off in TV2 to Heathrow Airport in order to fly to Orlando*, where I will be spending a week with a friend of mine who lives there. Hopefully, I'll be able to get some decent photos of Ameri-shite while I'm there; I'm holding out for a snap of a Sterling or a Merkur Scorpio :D

*In case you're wondering, I will be going to Walt Disney World at some point, even though I'm not a great fan of the corporation's animated productions - I much prefer the output of Warner Brothers and Hanna-Barbera. However, the fact that somehow I am getting free admission to the place has swayed me somewhat :)

rear wheel bearing on the granada started rumbling on thursday, friday it was growling, this morning it locked up after about a half a mile

bearing colapsed, and very hot: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fodtBjMY5TE

Oh no! How did you fix that then?

Arse

Last week I got ready to fix the driveshft on the BX, moved the cars round, jacked it up and put the stands under, but had misplaced part of my socket set and could not continue without the big one to remove the hub-nut.

Today I've moved the cars round again and jacked the BX up, axle stands under and found that it's a 36mm nut and my big socket is 32mm. Also the motor factors is closed on Sundays.

I iz a mong :(

partically as

a, I should be leaving it on the ground until I've undone the hub-nut anyway according to HBOL,

b, typically upon re reading the battered HBOL that Marcus gave me with the car he'd written 36mm in red ink next to this part

It's not a 36mm socket! It's actually 35mm - shared only with the Xantia and the Peugeot J7/9 van. You'll be welcome to borrow mine once I've finished the bearing job. I found it necessary to use an axle stand to stop the breaker bar slipping off the nut. And yes, you do need to make it the first thing you do before jacking the car up.

Had a local bloke recommended for mechanical stuff after my mate got his Blingo van's steering rack done for not a lot of coin. Senator going in tomorrow lunchtime for a checkover and serpentine belt replacement as I am a ham fisted moron. I'm working Saturday so I may well end up Senatorless all weekend whilst chappy does his thing.

Got the Senator back on Saturday morning; as predicted "I spent three hours trying to get the viscous fan coupling off but it was siezed solid, so I had to do it back to front and upside down. It's done now anyway, and I've repaired a couple of hoses which looked a bit delicate."

£20 all in. Can't complain.

In other news the belt wasn't the cause of the charging issues; 13.9v at idle, 12.4v at idle under load. Fucksocks. Alternator it is, then...

Successfully removed the hub carrier from the BX Safari. Now hoping that Bearing Man in town has a wheel bearing available for it. They're apparently quite good at having stuff on the shelf. Hoping to get the bearing fitted while I'm in town. Was a bit of a faff to get off, not helped by spending ages trying to find a way to prise the hub out of the carrier when I didn't need to do it! If I'd known what I was doing, I could have had it off pretty quickly.

Not so good was finding that the sills are a bit soft in places. Methinks some plating will be in order to get an MOT.

Lancia Dedra 1993 by dick dedra, on Flickr

Cheers ........

YAY, another Dedra! Welcome aboard!

Here's mine, acquired back in November last year and shortly to get some quality attention to free it from its long slumber:

6406296079_c8c65dd825_z.jpg

It's a Turbo SE - on the left you can see its 2.0ie barn-mate (not mine). Yours will give me something to aspire to.

Are you bringing it to ShiteFest? Lots of Lancia action to be had there.

Thanks for the welcome Skizzer, it's good to be on board!

Had a bit of spare time today to play about with the old girl (ooh err!) and give her a wash and brush up. Apart from a repair that's needed to the driver's seat and a stuck ashtray everything seems to be in order. Oh, except there was NO FLUID in the brake reservoir. Bollocks  Now topped up, I'd better keep an eye on this.

And yes I am planning to attend ShiteFest, going to "register my interest" anytime now!

Billy, phone me before you weigh that Aldi. I quite like it, and could use some money-saving economy.

Bought myself a couple of car bits today, I spotted this steering wheel at a little car boot sale this morning, the lady wanted £3 for it, so i bought it, It looks nice hanging up in the garage, I guess it's out of a Mini going by the BL badge?.

My best buy though was this genuine 70's Ford radio i bought at a car show, it was up for £25 but i haggled down to £20, the seller was adamant that it works and he seemed well known, the best part is that it has a 6 pin plug in the back for a 8 track but I've bought a 6 pin to 3.5mm jack plug so i can play my phone music though it. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/300580662177? ... 1439.l2649

This photo doesn't do it justice but it's in bloody good condition and has it's wiring and a cradle.

I've put a full day in on the Maser today and have done a shitload. Well happy! Was able to listen to BBC 6 music all day as well, fantastic.

Went for a walk today, strolling down this path I stopped to take alook at the nice site of mature houses in the distance, as I did though my 'Rover 800' senses picked something up, in the distance there was, what looked like a Silver mk2 Rover 800 parked up in a field next to an old White van, I had to investigate.......

I couldnt get close enough without trespassing onto what looked like private land. I found the house which I beleive owns the land and therefore possibly the car, hopefully if I get anytime I shall call around and see whats what with the car.

Spent part of today washing, claying and polishing Mrs S's Alfa in preparation for another shot at selling it. If I say so myself, it's come up pretty damn nicely. Let's hope someone bites on it this time, getting sick of her moaning about it now!

No this is not the pinnacle of shite vanning, it appears to be the 1968 hovver van version.

Had a really enjoyable morning working on the T25. First of all I popped over to my mates garage to plug the new golf engines ECU it into his proper VAG-COM cable cos my ebay cheapie won't work.

Plugged it in and used it to set the dizzy timing - With the engine idling, you just twist the dizzy round until some value on the screen gets to 58. With that sorted, it's not in limp dick mode no more and the 5000RPM revlimiter has been removed, it's fueling properly and goes like an absolute bloody rocket. And surprisingly it's not showing any fault codes (other than the previously dicky timingg) which I reckon is good going for an engine swapped out of an 120k golf gti into an old t25.

Then I popped over to GSF for a pair of front upper balljoints - the gaiters were split which is now an MOT fail, and the test is booked for tomorrow. The balljoints themselves were fine, but at £12 a piece there is no point trying to find a gaiter that'll fit, or take the piss out of the MOT tester by fashioning some bollocks out of an old inner tube or whatever.

Got home, fitted them and everything went swimmingly. I was feeling quite upbeat so I decided to give it a hoover out and fit the sink/cooker unit back in, and attach the armrests that I've had back from the upholsterers for ages. Managed to fit the little sub I've got inside the cupboard in the unit, which keeps it out of sight of scumbags at least, and it doesn't seem to have made any difference to how loud I can play shit music. Checked the fluids and noticed the throttle cable was a bit slack, so I adjusted it and got another 6mm or so. Result, its even faster again!

As odd as it sounds I was proper loving it, pottering around on the drive in the sun with some CHOONZ on the stez, so I decided to do a few more jobs I've been putting off for ages. Adjusted all the doors since none of them really worked right (Tailgate and passenger door needed pushing it a little as you press the button, and the sliding door needed some proper effort to slam it shut properly). I was expecting this to be a right 'mare, but it only took me about 20 minutes, and now my boot pops open on the key fob button and everything. It's mega!

I was feeling a bit dejected about the inside of the van for a while, but this has proper cheered me up. So much that I'm going to risk it and buy the cheapo ebay rock and roll bed that the seller recommends strengthening even in the bloody advert. Looking through feedback shows he's sold absolutely shitloads of them and people seem pretty happy with them. Stupido Upholsterer quoted something like £160 to make a set of cushions which isn't really a lot but the foam is only £70 so I'll probably just make the covers myself. If he can do it, anyone can.

I called in at York on the way home today to see the guy with the R25. When I arrived he was outside polishing my £300 purchase, I was informed that he'd just changed the oil and filter on it as well, as he thought it might need doing. He's a nice old bloke with a jag, daimler and my R25's replacement ... a rather tasty v6 auto R25. Anyhoo the white R25 is in shocking condition, I cannot see any rust on it anywhere, and everything I could see works. One of the rear doors wasn't working on the remote c/l so he'd stripped the door card off and sorted the solenoid at the weekend. The damage to the passengers door doesn't look as bad in the flesh as the pics make it seem, anyway, new door and the car would be bordering on concourse.

I've paid for the car and collected the paperwork so I can go and purchase a tax disc for it. I'll be catching the train to York (he'll collect me from the stn) one evening after work this week.

In other news, someone with an XM I was interested in has got back to me, and it's available .... I really don't have space for that and the R25.

I went to the Belvoir Steam Festival at the weekend. It was enjoyable in some ways, but would have been much more so had it not been misty / drizzly / freezing fugging cold. There had been a storm the night before, so everything was completely soaked and the field where we were camping was a complete mudbath - it was on a slight slope (no more than 1:15) but it was so waterlogged that anything without 4wd was getting stuck, and towards the end of Saturday even some 4x4s were struggling to make it up. People arriving with trailers or in camper vans were having to be towed up the hill by tractors, either the modern Massey Ferguson belonging to the estate or various old Fordson Majors, Field Marshals and the like which were part of the tractor exhibit.

I managed to get the BMW up to our camp site, but only by getting a run up on the one remaining slope which still had enough grass to get a bit of traction, hooning onto the camping field dangerously fast and then clawing my way to the camp site with a great deal of wheelspin and sidewaysness. Which was fun in its way, but I've just had to spend the best part of an hour scraping a delightful mixture of mud, grass, clay and horse shit from the underside and inner arches of the BMW - it was so thick that there was no way in hell a jet wash would have got it off, and I didn't want to leave it till next weekend due to its probable corrosive properties. It should now be possible to jet wash most of the rest off, although my hands still smell of horse shit despite washing them twice. And I'm still nowhere near caught up on sleep yet after spending Saturday night freezing my bollocks off in a tent.

Thanks Tayne :) Went outside for the first time in a week to give the Princess a bit of a look over and found that I've lost a boot badge, probably fell off on the M1. That'll be a bugger to replace.

Having problems with car stereos again.

I tried wiring up this new radio i bought on Sunday for the Cortina tonight, I'm sure I've wired it up correctly, Earth to the body, Live with a in line fuse fitted and two wires from the speaker but everytime i turn it on the in line fuse blows, It's a 3amp but even a 7amp pops.

Is this a sign of the new radio being knackered?. Here's a useless photo if anyone can make sense of it and see what's wrong?.
