Another group shot ? I will have to come up cos dad and I were still lurking round the sheds when the last one was taken

Sadly, there won't be time to visit with Autoshite folk this year.

In other news, I got to drive the DS that has an SM engine yesterday. And uses a semi auto gearbox. Quite remarkable. A full report will be prepared in the next few days.

Get the sump dropped and cleaned ASAP and pcv 6 fitted . I have two of those for braking . One in that colour too

Yeah I am going too. Spoke to the bloke and it's got 14 stamps in the book so hopefully it should get me home. I have seen them even when well looked after and the sump is minging. It's a pain taking the downpipe off and what not though ain't it. Still gonna be done.

Drove up to n Wales on Friday for easter. Decided to use my parent's hose pipe to wash out the accumulated muck from the wheel arches. Then the merc wouldn't run. Have a dozen attempts to cough in to life before I applied throttle and it roared away a little lumpy before clearing. No idea why, but must have sprayed water somewhere it wasn't appreciated.

Then last night too my parents out with my godmother for dinner in Chester- merc chauffeured to the door. French restaurant owner suitably impressed and opened the door for them- perhaps it was to laugh at an octogenarian and two septuagenarians extracting themselves from a two door coupe.

http://www.laptitefrance.co.ukAnd very good it was too.

On the way back it was idling very poorly- revs were pulsing, which was "fixed" the other month by cleaning up the contacts to the lambda sensor under the carpet. So I did that again today and seems fine at the moment.

I have now transferred all car breakdown gear and personal effects to my X1/9 for the trip back darn sarf, as I'm going to enjoy a few months with it in regular use. Only issues with it so far is a violent tendency to pull left when braking and a very small drop of brake fluid on the mat under the pedal.

Today I had to go and bring the 190E home - the MB Tex interior I fitted from my breaking 190 need some minor repairs so I've got them booked in at a local upholsterer to sort including a baggy door card.

Had an enjoyable drive home in it, so much so that I lobbed the cloth seats back in so I can get some use out of it.

I serviced it as well from my vast stock of Merc parts in the shed and it's running great, apart from one of the pulleys on the aux belt is a bit squeaky. That will need investigating a bit more.

It's got me thinking though - I actually do think the 190 is the best driving car of my fleet. Indeed my other 190 drove superbly too. I'm thinking that next time I have a fleet re-shuffle, a bigger Merc (ideally a W126) should be sourced to take position.

Volvo is back at Imp towers.

Uneventful journey except for the exhaust bandage blowing a hole in it just before I pulled onto the M606 resulting in the blowing raspberries at the whole of Bradford as I drive through it, which is fair enough isn't it, its exactly how I feel about Bradford too. Thanks to Minimad5 for picking me up and letting me have this wafting chariot at such an agreeable price.  Will hopefully do some sterling work as a load lugger in the near future.

A good day, my mate Steve came round to help get the Beetle going again after I dropped the engine to replace the clutch then broke part of the engine block putting it back in.

Got that Tig welded up a few months back which I think fried the coil but then couldn't get it started even with a new coil.

In the end it was tracked to the feed wire being too close to the distributor body and arcing out.

Felt great having it running so moved it out of the garage under its own power for the 1st time in 4 years.

Adjusted the clutch cable and took it for a quick drive up the road.

Its really got me motivated to crack on and get I finished, so I ordered new tyres off of Tyreleader  plus some other bits for mot.

Here's a pic of the Citroen DSM. Beast.

Today though, my 2CV has mostly led other Citroens to exotic destinations. Like the Internal Fire Museum and Aberaeron for chips. Sound familiar anyone?

When we got back, there was a (very) brief visit from Angry Dicky and the Young Guns (there's a band name).

The weather has been absolutely stunning, so while the event has been a bit of a damp squib (not enough people turned up) those who did turn up have had a great time, so I'm pretty pleased.

Remember Chris Evans 'White Collection' of colour co-ordinated lovelies?

Here is my autoshite version of the white collection complete with equally approprate industrial wasteland backdrop........

These worthless clunkers just about reach minumum numbers to constitute a 'collection' (ie 2),  and they are white (several shades) Tenuous!

Had a play with the fuel screw on the 760 today. Tweaking it up livened it up no end. It also produced even more smoke when you floored it, so I tweaked it more or less back again!

I just bid and lost on a 320 clk on eBay . It's like escaping from jail then handing yourself back in once you'd made a clean getaway

I've got my eye on a jrg one just up the road now ffs. Stop hitting yourself , stop hitting yourself.

I've been pricing up a timing belt kit for the Xantia.  Ã‚£70 can't be right, surely?

Cheaper than the one I bought for the VW boring ... but double the price of the one for the Lancia.

I think the price varies depending on the tensioners in the kit.

Posted

If I get a belt and a tensioner separately it's about £40, which is more what I was expecting.  Not sure why the kit is £70.

Posted

Does it come with a water pump? I found I could get a timing belt and tensioner cheaper separately for my Volvo as well. Baffling.

I can't remember if there are idler pulleys on the XUD, don't think so, but there are none on the Volvo.

Seeing the Alto at the petrol station just reminded me that I had not uploaded a petrol station shot.

The car behind was a Maserati something or other being driven by what looked like a pre pubescent lad with his girlfriend of equally childish appearance.

Volksy may well recognise this garage as it is the exact same one I did not go just after I bought the Aldi Coupe a few years ago, as it looked busy as I drove past, .

Its the garage approx 5 miles away from where I ran out of fuel on the M62.

Sun was splitting the sky this morning, so I thought I'd go for a tootle in the X1/9. Got carried away and ended up near doing a lap of Scotland... Fife-Glendevon-Creiff-Lochearnhead-Tyndrum-Oban-Lochgilphead-Balloch-Fife. 310 miles!  Never missed a beat and roof off in the twisties was a joy, and much more expensive faster machinery was holding me up. You do tend to forget a 1979 car won't stop as quickly as a German Panzer without the turret though. The Goodyear GT80's let out a nice screech though and smelt lovley. All modern tyres are shite... :)

Only saw 2 other cars of interest, an old Montego estate, and a B reg XR2...

My mum has been moaning that her 25000 mile Fiesta 1.4 TDCi has been getting slower and slower recently so I said I'd take it home and service it for her, it hasn't been serviced since 2011 but it's only done 7000 miles, I still told her off for it though.

The filters where pretty bad to be fair and I had a right ball ache getting the old fuel filter out of its housing but got it off in the end. It seems to go a bit better now, especially after an Italian tune up, just needs it's first cambelt doing next.

I also went for a nice drive in the Mk1, I do enjoy driving this and the amount of attention it gets on the road. I need to sort the rocker cover gasket though as it's pissing oil out, I might upgrade to a rubber one from Burtons and see if that's any better.

Living in a pretty populated area is ruining cars for me. All I do is sit in traffic. However, I got out to Scarborough way last week and had a right laugh ragging Mrs Imps new Megane round all the country roads. Its pretty slow on the take up as like any modern car its a right fat bastard but the handling is fantastic, I bet the bigger engined ones are a right hoot.

I need to get me a car sorted for that sort of shizzle. Just heading out for the day like you and having a hoon around some good roads. I did it in the Lancia Fulvia a few years ago, amazingly Mrs Imp slept all the way back (or had her eyes closed because: FEAR) which was probably just as well as we had a few hairy moments but it made me love driving again.

LOL, there was hardy any traffic in most places, but I was getting annoyed at being held at 60, as the bikes sailed past. Stuff being a city dweller.

I believe these are one and the same. The roof unbolt as do the upper B posts and the the rear screen. It is insane.

I think you are right, every detail seems the same, even some of the windscreen stickers.

I should be really cracking on with what's in here. That Williams ain't getting on the road anytime soon.

But instead I am sitting in the garden drinking strongbow and reading about discoverys, even though I have just bought a Saab.

Drove the X1/9 down this morning- bit foggy North of Birmingham but otherwise no dramas and the car ran beautifully, esp. Considering that it went further today than the whole of the last 12 months.

I also fitted a cut off switch for the electric aerial as I did on the merc. so that I don't need the aerial erected when only the iPod is playing.
