Scotsman buys Volvo estate - surprises nobody.

My asshole brother in law has been all menstrual about not finding a decent car for sale for the last few weeks. After the clusterfuck of the last few visits he has "organised" he had stopped asking for me to go with him, but he has been driving my sister batty with his whinging about it all. He is pretty pissed off about me buying my Escort, which is another dick move since I showed him the advert when it first went online and he turned his nose up at it because its a petrol.

Anyway, I have seen and paid a deposit on a V40 diesel. Giffer owned, full history, fresh CT etc etc blah blah which apparently pleases him.

Two grand. TWO GRAND. TWO FUCKING GRAND, but hey, its not my money so I dont really care.

He picks it up this weekend. Photos to follow if anyone cares. I dont really.

Volvo 760 can haz MOT!

I let the garage get on with sorting the fail list. A new caliper was also needed to sort the brakes (I would have had a go overhauling it but I understand why a professional garage would just lob a new one on) Ended up costing a bit more than anticipated, a reminder of why I try to tackle most things If I have the time- But the big white whale is on the drive with a fresh ticket, and cambelt aside is officially ready for shitefest!

Managed to lock myself out of my own house last night, like a mong. Spare house key was in the glovebox of the 1850 (laid up at parent's house with a duff starter) and the keys to that were in my house.

Drove the 1300 back to my parent's place and slept there and went to work with the intention of popping into the estate office I rent my place form and getting their spare key. Got a text from Dad, "Got your house key, unlocked the 1850 with the 1300's spare key". Thank fuck for shitty 38 year old BL door locks, eh?

Two of my more eccentric mates have separately bought some solid gold shite...mate number 1 has got a pristine mk1 Zephyr 6.

Mate 2 who has enough storage to be a compulsive hoarder, has got an old fire engine. A dodge commando with a perkins V8 no less! No pics yet but watch this space

Remember the sunbeam rapier in the eBay thread? Well I emailed the owner for some more pics and he's kindly sent some.

No MoT and he's asking £2750. My thoughts are a tad salty. What do you think?

That wing looks full of filler.........I'd say it needs a good look over.

Depends what the going rate is.

Very pretty though.

I had an email today from the local Renault / Dacia dealer following up on my request for brochures some time ago and asking if I'd like a test drive.  I've emailed back saying that if they can provide a 1.2 Access demonstrator, I'll come and give it a go, but I'm not interested in test driving a fully-optioned 1.5 DCi Lauréate as that will be absolutely fuck all like the base model to drive.  Last time I wandered past the forecourt, all the demonstrators were the latter.  In fact there wasn't a base model to be seen anywhere.

Edit:  Just checked my inbox again and in fact I had two emails - one where they got my surname wrong.  This follows on from them sending me the wrong brochures and two separate people contacting me with two separate lists of available test drive appointments.  First impressions are therefore not good...

I really want a Sunbeam Rapier some day.  I'll probably pay far too much for an absolute basket case when I do get one and I do regard it as a when and not an if.

The Xantia has been on ebay for a few days. I have had someone email me who has seen it on the French car forum and was wanting to give me £200 for it as I was asking on here. I have said no, as that was an Autoshite price and that I really want £275 outside of the forum.

TBH, if I can get back what I paid for it, I may as well try. Its currently at £155. It might not reach £200, it might get a bit more. Who knows? I have nothing to lose really.

I was speaking to a guy off the French Car forum the other day with the car up at £200 when I was properly peeved with it, but he bailed and now its up for auction I may as well run with it in the hope I can recoup some cash on it. Hope the guy I emailed doesn't take offence and give me a good old slagging off but ho hum. He has bid and might still get it at £155.

I'd expect it to be MOT'd and on the road for that to be honest...

If he knocked a couple of grand off it might be more of a bargain, they are uncommon but I don't think they usually fetch more than £4-5k in good condition.

Aye, I think you're confirming my thoughts. I think I'll swerve that one. Shame, I've wanted one I of those for ages. Ho hum.

I love* the fact you can follow the outer curve for at least another 3 inches, inside his face. That'll have stung in the morning.

Put the summer wheels/tyres on the Scirocco this morning & took it to have it tracked up (following its recent mishap).

Chap brought the keys back & announced that he's sorted the tracking, "It was about 5mm out" he proclaimed.

'Is that a lot?' I retorted and do you know, the fucker only demonstrated how much 5mm was with his thumb & forefinger.

'I know how much 5mm is. Is it a lot in terms of tracking error you fucking mong?'

I paid and left

My local ATS Euromaster helpfully explained how far out the tracking was on the Council Estate by stating - on the phone - that "the laser off the nearside front wheel is hitting the toilet door in the workshop."

in an attempt to get to a new page so I no longer have to see cutting disc man, I shall relate the story of a Sunbeam Rapier.

A friend's one had broken down and was destined for the scrapyard, my big sis had a Sunbeam Alpine at the time.

Rapier had broken down in the country and required picking up to go to the scrappies. Before it went, we went down and pulled the Holbay head off it for the 1725 in the Alpine.

This is just a post to help your cause.

Now I'm scared to go in this thread.  It'll either be back to normal and nothing to fear or SUDDENLY CUTTING DISC MAN for twenty pages.  It's difficult to predict what could happen next.

Had the 75 serviced this morning, no dramas other than a mention of the back box blowing slightly...

Cars bought via this forum aren't what they used to be.

You know those 'magic eraser sponges' you see in Aldi and the pound shop? They're brilliant.

Minimal effort, no scrubbing and only needs water. Wonderful. Also they're only sponge, so really difficult to embed in your face.

So, fed up of sightings of the Ubiquitous 'DaaChaa'?

I throw you a LOGAN.... on the A19, going north near Seaham.

No camera juggling... but it was just like this.... but PostiePat red.

Had to give a colleague a lift home in the Nippa earlier. A fairly tall, well-built chap but he appeared to fit in the passenger seat. Then we gave a pal a lift. A fair tall, well-built chap who just about managed to fit in behind the other chap's seat. It really was only just though. Not a big car. I think they would have both been more comfortable in a Mini but at least they got a door each.

I have a diesel Bini. Sorry.......

It's just clocked 75k and a warning lamp came up........turned out to be dpf fluid. So I ring the dealers and get told £150 to £170. Next is a specialist who wants £186. Google makes things worse and apparently the sky is about to fall in on me and kill all kittens within a mile.

So off I go to the factors.....just under £30 for a litre of goop and a few quid more for a 'transfer kit' which apparently makes it easier.

The tank is hidden by the underfloor plastic panel but takes about 15 mins to get out. Open it up and there is the empty bag. Transfer kit did indeed make it easy to fill up the bag.

Reassembly is a reversal of the removal procedure.....

Switch it on.....fugging light still on as predicted by Google.

Just for fun I run through the reset procedures a mate of mine printed off from some forum.........covers all the stuff like resting pads and oil intervals as the twats at Mini make all this time/mileage based.

Anyway found you can also reset Dpf tank level (which is factory set to 80k....no level sensor) so did that and bingo light is out.

Why you can't just tip it in a reservoir like any other consumable does defeat me though.

TLDR.........all moderns are shit............but future shitetists should not worry themselves too much

Lucky boy. That's not too far from some important clockwork, carotid artery for starters.
