I presume you mean K11 ? They're actually good fun, in a tinny, high-revving 1990s Japanese kind of way. They're also very cheap to run. I would much prefer one to an '00s Accord or Golf.

Interested?

I appear to have agreed to sell the Merc, my mate is a big 190E fan and been pestering me about mine since I bought it, he's been over and offered £900 which I think is fair so I've accepted.

He also offered me his Honda Accord as a trade in if I fancied it but I'm not sure. It's a 2001 Accord 1.8 Sport with 121k, full history, tidy enough but has a heavy clutch and needs a abs sensor which is £100, he's said I can have it plus £500 which basically means I'd be paying £400 for it. I'm not sure if it's worth it though, especially as I don't really fancy it.

D'oh! Yeah I'm not sure what i was thinking there, Mrs T has one years ago on a P plate, a little 1.3 GX and she loved it and to be fair it went like shit of a shovel, She's moaned at me about wanting another one ever since, I just don't know if i want to own one again, plus it would have to be a 1.3 or 1.4 and they all seem quite expensive still or fucked.

One sold on ebay on a 02 plate for £350, they seem to be worth the square root of fuck all. I was thinking of fixing the ABS sensor and punting it on for £6-700 but it doesn't look like it's worth it.

Don't discard the 1-litre ones, they're no dragster but can still keep up with traffic.

Alternatively, there's plenty of undesirable Japanese hatchbacks out there : Starlets, Charades, Swifts, Sirions, YRVs, even the venerable Perodua Myvi (which I am a huge fan of !). Someone who likes K11s would feel right at home in any of those !

Posted

I quite like the Starlets and the Sirions but they are a bit modern for me, Still if it wins me brownie points then it can't be all bad.

It's no Mk3 Cavalier/Sierra/Mk1 Mondeo that i fancy though.

My old K11 was a 1L: it went well enough if wound up properly. Kinda like a 125 motorbike, you learn to not brake too much, if you want to go quickly!

Can you agree a price without the swapper? I see that a £495 car with the ABS fixed and I'm also surprised a sensor is only £100 - I could never find an aftermarket one and the dealer price is £200. They are decent drives though but evidently surprising heavy on RFL if >1.3.2001 and also heavy on juice.

Yes, £900 but he needs to sell his car first, especially as the tax is due in a few days. He said Honda wanted mega bucks for the sensor but the local motor factors could get one for £72+ Vat.

Posted

I'd be worried it's not the right sensor and they are quoting for the 2003-on model, where there is plenty of cheap aftermarket availability.

If you're keen to do the deal only agree once he's fitted it and you're satisfied it works properly.

Mrs Trigger really wants a Mk11 Micra but I don't think I can put myself through it!

Spent the day at the Pratical Classics workshop as they wanted the Applejack Allegro for some pictures. Had a really nice day out, ending up pushing some cars around afterwards and assisting with the oil change on an Alfa 156 (which is a bastard of a job).

Got home to find yodel had delivered a new Metro fuel tank

On top of that I really enjoyed driving the Applejack Allegro, rekindled my Allegro love. The 1.0 A+ engine is as sweet as anything and sitting at just over 4000 rpm at 70 isn't really that noisy.

We looked at having them from one of those that does them 'free'. Nothing is free......

It works but you need to buy them outright - that's when YOU can gain rather than the company that does them free.

Oh...........I hate the look of the things too!

There's no-one here like that (yet) so it's all coming out of my wallet - it's mine, mine, all mine! Muah ha ha cough, splutter.

There is meant to be some sort of government hand out but, as usual, it's about a year's worth of bureaucracy to wade through and almost nothing left by the time you've paid all the official bribes charges.

Speaking of which, the electric co. came out to check it all before we started. 2 guys, 10 minute's looking, a bit of paperwork and... that'll be a grand, fuck you very much.

I'm not keen on the look of the thing either but, meh.

Maybe the next generation version will involve simply retiling your roof with special tiles??

They already exist! Sadly they look shit, cost a fortune and don't work very well.

Oh go on tell me you have bought either a mulsanne or a silver spirit. I can't be the only one ! They are pretty big but I can still get it in the double garage at home.

Merc cl500. probably less reliable and worse on fuel than the rr. See grumpy thread for pics.

Trig, those Accords are decent enough cars but really hard to shift, you might want to factor that in if you do take it as a part-ex.

Would she like a 1.2 Corsa Swing?

No, didn't think so! Get yourself a Mk3 Cavalier Trig, I reckon you'll enjoy one. Did you drive mine at Shitefest?

Posted

No, I had a ride in it though, I've driven plenty of Cavaliers over the years and found them to be nice cars, we'll see what happens once I have the money, knowing me I'll end up with something totally different to what I started looking for.

All part of the fun though isn't it, trying different stuff.

I'm in a buying frenzy at the moment and have just put in an offer on a pre-facelift Mk3 Cav. Not the most sensible thing to do before all the Christmas expense but bollocks to it, I'm on a roll.

A grey grill cav? fast becoming a spotters delight, I saw a 1990 G-reg CD saloon yesterday.

It should be, but someone has colour coded it at some point so I'll have to reverse that if I get it. And they've facelifted the bootlid. But it does have the original CD alloys which I think are GR9. Not the mintiest of examples but then it isn't up for much.

Hey Rob, I hope you're not trying to fill the hole left by a recently departed 220!  How did the MOT go?

Topped the Vel Satis up with antifreeze this evening and took it round the block to let it circulate.  It appears that the climate control has, with impeccable timing, decided to go on the blink.  Testicles.
