The new news 24 thread

There was a Smart in the eBay thread a few years ago with an A Series and, I think, Metro subframe in the arse end.

Well yes, but that makes sense. That was replacing flaky, unnecessarily-complicated engineering with something that actually worked. Those Hondas were bloody impressive in engineering terms. Maximum power at 8000rpm. 8000! 5500rpm for an MG Midget.

Final fleet foto:

Civic is off to a new life (with youngest) after nearly ten years: new front struts & top bearings today @125008

Insight: 75 mpg last night cross country

Van: If it was Automatic it would be perfect

MR2: supposed to be for sale........

Legacy: supposed to be replacing the Civic as the sensible daily but after 7 years I am a bit bored with it.

Van does most miles!

I know someone who is restoring a Talbot 1100 pick-up... it might be a Simca... they don't call him Simca Mick for nothing!

It's a bit of a challenge.

I see you're fairly local to me, it would be a surprise if Simca Mick didn't know the pick up I saw today whether he's local or not. 1085 Trunk rd Middlesbrough-Redcar 11.30.

Spent this afternoon blezzing about in a 52-plate Vectra Design 2.2 petrol auto estate. Thoroughly pleasant thing to the point I'd probably buy one.

It was so good I'd relocated half a dozen bikes, made offers on seven Corsas and spent two hours shouting at Liverpool fans before I remembered I wasn't Billy.

I have swapped a sensible diesel runabout for a mid-engined, rear wheel drive, Japanese two seater.

It has a viscous fan and electric fans. WHAT IS POINT.

@spike60:  Simca Mick is actually in Chesterfield, that's near to where I used to live, but you're right he probably knows the one you're talking about, he seems to know ALL the Simcas in the UK and a few that are in Belgium/France too.

Viscous for the engine, electric for the air con?

Posted

It doesn't have air conditioning or any concessions to luxury, but the viscous fan could be there to help keep the engine cool in a really inefficient way.

cort, you're close, but think.bigger and more veg friendly.

Took the SAAB out today for the first time in a bit. Hood down, tunes and sunglasses on, off to the pez station. Where it promptly refused to start after filling it up, due to the wheezy Corsa battery I'd fitted a few weeks back. Bonus MILF helped me push it about 20 foot out of the way, borrowed a boos pack, then ran it home to put the proper battery back on.

Tunes on again, shades on again, roof down again. Damn it felt good blasting round the lanes and bypasses.

Heaven help me, but each time I see Milliband on the telly, I get six inches further from voting Labour.

MoD caught out using shite trucks...

http://www.robedwards.com/2014/09/20-year-old-trucks-carrying-deadly-nuclear-cargoes-keep-breaking-down.html

...I'd have thought they'd be easier to fix, and wouldn't have done mega mileages?

Skattrd - did you get on okay? I'd have offered to help, but the limitations of my toolkit are only exceeded by the limitations on time and skill!

Plenty of small garages round Blackness way, if it's any help.

@rustoldbanger over on Twitter has recently had his garage turned over by three folk in a black Mercedes Vito.  He's understandably very unhappy about this.

I'm not sure where he is in the country, but it is a timely reminder that with scrap prices once again on the rise it's sensible to secure any bits of valuable metal stuff and to be vigilant.  Spread the word, all that jazz.

With a bit of luck they'll replace them with new Ivecos and Mercedes, then be in the same boat as before, only less reliably and more expensively.

The warhead carriers are Mercedes or MAN. Natty rollered matt khaki paint too. #scene

I did some shifting with the Marea for Vin Senior today. Borrowed my mate's trailer and collected a potato box and Ferguson single furrow plough. He's already got two boxes which have been chopped down to make raised beds. This is destined to be the same but halved in size. The plough will be a feature. Belonged to the father of my Dad's partner. He bought it in a sale when it was new but never used it, so it's been sat around for decades gathering dust...It's Ace.

Just as I walk through the door
I can feel your emotion
It's pullin' me back
Back to love you

I know I'm caught up in the middle
I cry just a little
When I think of letting go
Oh no, gave up on the riddle
I cry just a little
When he buys Zafiras in the dark

Not the actual car, but same colour just less alloy wheely. Obviously the best way to buy a car is to do so in the dark, having not really test driven it properly, ensure it has no MOT and tax, then as you reverse out of the car park you need to twat the door on a metal post.

Oh, and obviously it hasn't got any wheel trims.

Auld_boy Hyden phoned me today and offered me his N-reg 827 Sterling, he wanted around £500 but I simply have no money (again for the umpteenth time!) Plus I have exactly the same car, but I would like to see it saved.

I guess as they say, you can't save 'em all :|

The most unsurprising news to hit the automotive sector since the new Audi A4 looked exactly the same as the old Audi A4

USED cars made by MG, Rover or Daewoo are the most likely to need expensive head gasket repairs according to new research from Warranty Direct.

I'm surprised a Daewoo mind you.
