I hope you do too Trig, otherwise the usual bummage fate awaits (I'm taking about the car there).

I don't think that will happen as the scrappy is making a lot of money on it (know what they paid for it). There was a COD issued but it seems they have managed to get it reversed, I wonder what the last owners daughter will think when she see it driving about again?.

So what would be a sensible price to pay it for?. I've made a offer but I'm a bit worried it is too much or not enough, It's needs works and I can't see under the car to tell if it's still got a floor or not although i think it's probably ok.

Going off Google, later GTas (Rover badged) seem to be worth £1200-2500 for a good one.

A tidy G-reg Austin one went for (seemingly) about £1500 on C&C.

Considering there's bits missing eg door mirror and minor vandalism, I'd say £1250 tops.

Today I have been de rusting the Rusty Lee jag.

Not perfect but a 10 yarder. Also serviced it with help from brother, who managed to break the rubber boot on a coil pack and put a spark plug in upside down. Cant get the staff

Finally back home in sunny grey Essex this evening.

The Mazda 6 saloon taxi that took us across Rhodes to the airport this morning had clocked up 757944 km's

A few greek flavoured chod spots to follow

Cortina's head gasket sorted, now feels much better to drive and has adequate power.

However it's still getting hot, upon closer inspection the radiator is filled with crap. I've back flushed it with a hose for 30 mins but still a lot of crap lodged in it.

Might end up just getting a new one.

Also when turning round on a country road an old guy in a series land rover slowed down and then stopped to talk to me from his window about my car, both were D reg!

I'm off to Retro Rides Gathering tomorrow in the Lancia. It's no Shitefest but its a pretty good days event. I am on a stand and have a few spare stand passes where people pulled out last minute if anyone else is going, wants to show their car but doesn't have a pass. PM me your phone number if you want one.

In the grin thread I was gobbing off saying how kwik fit said my aircon had a leak and would only last a couple of days and how I took it to a specialist who pressure tested it and said it was a-okay. Well guess what it lasted 2 days and now isn't blowing cold, which means it's all fucking leaked out. Typical.

It did hold a vacuum well so I dunno what the score is. I doubt I'll be doing anything further about it in my ownership.

In other news I was in North Berwick yesterday and spotted this sweet Open Commodore Coupe. That's one HOT car.

Was there ever an injected pre-Rover Metro?

Nope.

Rover R6 Metro GTa was a carb fed as well, 1.4K Series 8 valve on an SU HIF. 75BHP standard, felt like more and would eat and shit a Nova SR, especially if corners were involved.

I had a Metro GTi 16v also, and that would take GTE Novas, despite being 200 cubes short.

Just polished the Range rover (yeah, you heard me) and it looks absolutely the same as it did before.

Now the Jag has arrived I needed to have a swap around at Imp Towers to make room.

The GT6 has been languishing outside all summer whilst I ignored it in favour of drinking heavily in the glorious weather we have had. It was looking a little sorry for itself.

Put the rear leaf spring in (WHAT A PAIN IN THE ARSE THAT WAS), gave it a bit of a wash down before it got moved into the garage.

Just back after an AMAZING weekend. Buying a 2CV back in 1995 was the best thing I ever did. Here's a crap photo. Need to eat and sift through the zillion or so photos I took on the nice camera now. After 24 hours, the leading two 2CVs were separated by less than a lap. Incredible. I took this shot last night.

Went to another car show today in Brightlingsea, I took the Civic along as I haven't used it for nearly a month, It's driving so well now that everything is sorted on it, I had a great time racing along the country lanes to the show with my mate in his Cortina in tow, for a 1200cc that car can show a surprisingly clean set of heels, it's a bit light up front under load though.

A few highlights at the show were this H van with a 2CV window grafted into it and amusing set of badges on the rear.

Picked up another small cache of tools on Friday, won on ebay for £14, paid the man cash and took the loot.

Come Saturday I have an "unpaid item dispute" in my inbox, I'm hoping it's a mistake as the seller seemed a really nice guy and told me he'd have more stuff to sell soon.

Ho hum.

H van belongs to a very well known 2CV specialist based, I think, in Colchester. So well known I've forgotten his name. It has been a long weekend. Can't say I blame him not wanting to drive the H all the way to Anglesey!

Did Retro Rides Gathering. Was excellent! Pics to follow, I got there just in time to see a certain gold Acclaim lined up for the hillclimb

I'm seriously gutted not to have made this, me and some mates decided to do it last minute but couldn't guarantee that we'd get camping tickets plus one mates misses had a baby last week, next year FO'SU

Tatty Mazda now has 4 tyres with lots of tread thanks to my local scrapyard - admittedly they're all different makes, none of which I have ever heard of, but it now grips really well so I'm not complaining.  The scrapyard even threw in a free pair of floormats out of a Mazda 6 which scrubbed up OK.

I pulled out the driver's seat to find out why it leans and the height adjuster is stuck - turns out one corner of the frame has snapped clean off and the whole seat base is distorted as a result with the squab being propped up by the height adjuster mechanism.  No real hope of repairing it so will continue to look out for a decent replacement.  A moderately thorough hoovering and wipe over has made the interior a lot better though, still dead chuffed at how much car it is for so little money.  So much so that since ECP had a 50% sale on this weekend I ordered it a load of service items (oil, oil filter, air filter, spark plugs, PAS belt and a full set of wiper blades) for the princely sum of £40.

Only thing left after that is possibly a timing belt change as I have no idea when it was last done, although it looks fairly new.

We only did the day, I don't think I'd bother camping.... That's more for the social side and I don't think I get on with a lot of the newer RR members.

Fair few stanced cars on M6 on way back tonight. Most looked pretty good but a knob in lowered pisshat estate had to cut in and out of traffic.

We followed a dickhead in a Sierra out, lobbing rubbish out the window and driving like a moron. Thankfully a minority.

Drove the Renault 6 12 miles home this evening from my mate's where it's been stood for a year and a bit.  It drove as well as ever, nothing was seized except the heater temp control (which I only wanted to use to try and demist the front screen quicker).  Back brakes were a bit sticky to start with but soon freed off.  I'd forgotten how low geared the bloody thing is though - at 60 it sounds like it's about to put a rod through the block.

Plan now is to give it a bit of a tidy up, including fitting a matching pair of rear lights (currently has one Series 1 and one Series 2, as I lost one of the lenses for the pair of Series 1 lights I had, and I can't find where I put the Series 2 light I took out  ).  It also ideally needs a new carb, as the one on it at the moment is epically shit (and has been ever since I bought the car).  And some weldage, of course, although it's going to be a while before I'm confident enough to start tackling that.

Finally got round to fitting the rebuilt fuel pump on the Atlantic. It fired up after a few attempts and I took it out on the road for the first time in a year. I'd forgotten how horrible it is to drive with its juddering, snatching clutch and sticky, clunky gearchange. Plus the massive engine pumping heat into the car and making it feel like a furnace. Still, it's back up and running which is all I'll be doing to it before I head back down to Kent in a couple of weeks' time. As the Austin Counties Car Club rally next year is relatively local (Ashford, Kent) I'm going to make a big push to get it down there. If the worst comes to the worst I suppose I could buy an A frame and tow it down behind the Somerset!

As for the rest of the fleet, the Maestro is still going strong with nothing needed since I repaired the exhaust. The A35 needs a master cylinder and a bit of welding on the sill, both of which have been waiting far too long for me to get around to doing. The Somerset needs the electronic ignition module fitting, an annoying vibration at the back sorting (exhaust I think) and I'm going to nick the seatbelts out of the A55 and fit them. Yes I know I said I didn't think they were necessary, but someone died in an Anglia recently with no seatbelts and I do a lot of miles in the thing on busy main roads. Might as well fit them as the Cambridge isn't going anywhere in a hurry.

Yet another person I failed to meet at the weekend! Here's me waiting for that parade to start.

It was quite a crowd.

During the race, I fitted a new exhaust.

Hello Ian  - I'm just shy, and when I did spot you, you were talking to someone.

Part of my 2CV took part in the 24h race too! Ok, it was the wooden wheel chock but it still played a part and was drilled and fitted with a pull cord to assist quick releases.

All I had to fit was a new window catch which broken lining up for the parade lap - luckily opposite ecas's emporium.
