I'll get some tomorrow, wasn't sure people would be interested in a multi coloured cortina!

Should probably add this is the first time its been driven on the road since 1981.

Oo, an Insight!  Autoshite goes green!

Those wheels are to die for.  If you ever scratch one, I think we've got a Magimix blade for cutting cucumbers into spirals that's just like them.

These Insights seem to be getting worryingly trendy. Worryingly because I want one as well.

Well the Chinese Crunchy has now completed two full weeks of commuting (35 miles a day round trip) and has yet to miss a beat.  Unlike previous Chinese bikes I've owned, it starts straight away and idles well.  It's also doing around 50% more to the gallon than the Honda scooter - 3 quid gets me about 50 miles.

Despite having a lot less power than the Honda, it's actually quicker in real terms - mainly because the gearing on the Honda is shockingly badly set up.  The Honda's quicker in the mid-range from about 20 to 40 (so GR9 4 overtaking tractors), but the Chinabike will beat it off the line and also has a higher top speed (on the flat at least) of about 55 (which may increase marginally once I adjust out the massive amount of slack in the throttle cable).  Another thing I like about the Crunchy is that it's wired like a "proper" bike, so the lights run off the battery rather than straight from the generator - which means they don't fade to almost nothing when the bike is idling.  Drawbacks are it's less comfortable than the Honda (seat is quite hard and riding position is odd), it vibrates more, it's not as agile and brakes aren't as good.  Overall though, for a 150 quid bike it's not doing badly.

Deal done :-D

You total git! I love that and want it, would go well with my I2 version... though I think the MK1 is better, certainly prettier.

Looks like a few of us need to turn up at Sorn Me's house asking if we can play with his new spaceship.

Likewise! Always fancied a green or red one. Even when they were new.

Sorn me: I want one of those as well, could you give us some updates on what they're like to use regularly and live with when you've had the car a bit. By the sounds of it I don't think I'm the only one on here interested in those.

Seems like quite a few people want some...

Impressive that Wuvvum, I need to overcome my loathing for Chinese bikes and get another one soon. The only ones I've really touched have been those Godawful generic 49cc ones and they didn't impress. That said the bloke in the barber's near me has one and raves about it, the only problem he'd had was a cracked manifold which he got sorted cheaply and he uses it everyday for a 20 odd mile commute.

I fancy a 125 trail bike (the sort of XL125 replica things) to have a play on and maybe have a bash at some green laning, or mild off roading or something.

In other news I think the Vectra MOT is about due now as well as the tax, so it's getting to be an expensive time here at Cavcraft, what with taxing two other cars last month and paying for the SAAB repairs.

I pulled an injector from this scrapper Hyundai Accent CRDi for my mate's car this morning. Fuel pipe, leakoff, wiring connector, single bolt clamp, job jobbed. Take note VAGSHITE, BMW, Mercedes etc - it doesn't need to be any harder than this.

VM DIESEL FTW.

Is that what's in those wee cars? I confess to knowing next to nothing about them.

Going to be a long week before I can collect the Insight.

Full, really thorough, history, 70.000miles, present owner for 11 years and not a ding or dent anywhere except for stone chips on the bonnet. (That I could see, but I was wearing car buyers goggles of optimism.) Everything works, just needs a real good clean and a lot of miles so I can get used to all the techno-magic.

Watch this space, in a week or so!

There's one for sale on autotrader (it's owned by a member on the insight forum - worth joining, there's a LOT of knowledge re the MK1s on there) with 262K miles on the clock and it's up for £3K! It seems they last well. I really like them and the more I read about them, the more I like them. They aren't just funky for the sake of it, but genuinely clever engineering and build.  They were never intended to challenge the Pious.... just Honda doing things there own way, as usual.

Strangely, the MK2 (like mine) uses a lot of the same tech but is nothing like as efficient. Strange for Honda to go backwards.... I do like mine though, it's a great car in its own way and different enough to be interesting.

Well, that was interesting. 80mph in the outside lane of the M1 and one of the driveshafts decides to fall off the Cherry Europe. Cue, very loud bang followed by lots of nasty noises but miraculously, no damage appears to have been done! Even all six bolts were still in the CV housing so 5 minutes work on the hard shoulder with a 6mm allen key re-attaching it to the gearbox and I was back in business. Major clusterfuck narrowly avoided there methinks.

Note to self: Buy some loctite.

You carry a 6mm Allen key?

Heroic.
