Jings! And I thought the Electricity Pylon Appreciation Society was a bit specialised.

Volvo failed It's MOT on a borked steering rack, ARB bushes, emissions and several other bits. £425 quids worth. Went in and had a look, and it does add up.

Since it's bloody useful and I'm rubbish at bangernomics I've left it with them to sort it and get another year from the big daft thing.

Trigger, if you get the chance get that Nova, they're rocketing up in price now the cooking models. The Mk2 Cavs are getting decent money now too, even basic ones.

Those Mk2 Cavs are good looking in saloon form imho too.  Not classy, nor elegant, but somehow they just look right.

Good news : I finished replacing the broken cambelt of my MX5 with a nice, new one. Timing the thing on a sloping driveway without locking tools was a royal PITA, but I must have gotten it right as the engine started first turn of the key and ran like nothing had ever happened !

Bad news : While fighting with the cambelt, I managed to knock the fan temp switch with a spanner. Unfortunately, said switch is made of recycled Allegro steering cowling plastic, so it snapped in half. Great, another £15 down the drain...

Coming soon : MoT, for which it will need a pair of new rear calipers, the annual front brake disassembly/clean/grease, new rear shocks, and a new set of tyres. So much about cheap thrills... For all that hassle, I could* have bought an MGF !

I'm still half tempted to make a offer on the Cavalier, I don't really want it but I bet it will clean up really nice and be fun to take to a few shows. 4 speed and 1600cc means it will be quick as fook too.

Fleet news.....

The peugeot 504 bulkhead repairs are progressing nicely, and my welding is too! So satisfying to replace rust and glassfibre with your actual metal.

I was very tempted by a Renault 4 project on e bay this week but realistically the 504 has plenty of rotten bodyshell to keep me busy in my limited free time and the missus deffo would not be impressed at a growing line of rusting hulks on the drive.

The Jag....

Will be moving on as George Osborne is owed some money at the end of July. Not all bad, as in a deal with my neighbour, George gets his money, I downsize and still have an old car at the end of it....

Meanwhile the volvo plods on asking for little (except pez).

I did fit some new tailgate struts and powerwashed some more laquer off the bonnet the other day mind.

I really don't need the Cavalier, so any chance if you get a price and decide it's not for you, to let me know?

Can do, I need to take the car back for its retest anyway so I will speak to them then. Not sure what's it's worth but if they offer it for £3-400 as it stand (it has nearly a years tax and mot) then it has to be worth a punt.

Also a few weeks ago my brother got a bargain . Daewoo matiz 0.8 SE plus !!!

Fresh 6 months tax , Mot til end aug ............ 40 bloody quid.

56k on the clock and runs sweet. It is a little cosmetically chalenged and did have loads of flower stickers on it.

Its even funnier cos he is a 18st pro rugby prop . He loves it and is well into the whole bangernomics ideal.

Here it is having the (alloy) wheels taken off and bead sealer applied.

Those Matiz are monumentally rubbish and it makes them all the more charming.  You appear to have found one without a serious collection of dents or blebs of paint between the rust which is quite an achievement.  You should've seen the state of the one that we looked at down south that they were asking ten times what you paid for that one, the arse was practically falling out of it.

I adore KE175 and have many envies.

I would like to buy KE175 and have many pennies.

Ive just looked at the pics properly and seen how proud my brother looks  :-D  :-D

and your not the only one who has offered to buy it Mr C Saviour

Did he really get it for forty quid? Jammy so and so.

Posted

yup , forty bloody quid.

He should have left teh flower stickers on.

Would have been all the more hilarious when 4 massive rugby players got out of it.

Posted

yup , forty bloody quid.

To be fair, that's nearly three times the cost of an 850 T5...

I adore Matizzez and have many envies.

The three-potters are amusing disposable transport pods, but I can't take them any more seriously than that. Envy? No. That's for proper stuff.

The 1.0-litre Chevrolet models were foul. How they managed to make the interior worse is beyond me.

I got a metric tonne of lift off oversteer heading for J20 of the M6 in one trying to get to work in Orrell.

Did a few things over the weekend.

I4dsYtD.jpg

Watched an otherwise very original MkII Escort get desmegged (tip: sill plates and chassis legs should not come out of a can).

LGWiAix.jpg

So extensive was the bodged handiwork, we were there until quite late.

KCSPqdd.jpg

Went to the excellent Lymm Historic Transport Fair on Sunday, where a small BriSCA exhibit could be found at the back.

MHRXJ8e.jpg

A superb array of Vauxhalls - and the DRK stand, of course.

nVMZabO.jpg

Stoked to see a Ford Flathead with an Ardun OHV head conversion outside of the USA.

TeaW2GE.jpg

Went with a colleague to buy some kind of frangible pasta runabout. Chivvied my D60 back into life, too - it's getting rougher by the day.

I agree entirely. The first facelift ruined the Matiz, as did the four pot option.
