Happy days! My 510sss runs! Cleaned the points and the fuel pump, boshed on a battery and fed in some fuel and away it went. Not bad for a car that's been unused 1980.

I got the moment on film but the file's too big to upload so you just have to look at this picture and make engine noises.

Thunderstorm coming. I am at the end of a long piece of wire so am unplugging everything from the computer. Don't want to lose any IT kit to lightning.

I'll be back!

passed over the Forest thirty mins ago - just started as the barbecue had just cooked everything!

Ok. I got off lightly! By the way Richard, having picked up a copy of Citroenian yesterday (as I visited the stand-in editor) I feel very foolish! Hadn't realised that you were the two-horse columnist!

Well one doesn't like to blow one's own trumpet!

I'm only doing it because they couldn't find anyone else, and Adrian refuses to take it back. As is patently aware, I know nothing about how to fix things and just print what people send me.

I am going to the French National at the end of next month (in the reliable 2CV), so if you or anyone else want some obscure 2CV/Dyane/Ami part then please let me know and I'll keep an eye out on site.

Outback rusproofing started in earnest, here's hoping the rain keeps off the next two days.

Rear subframe/suspension, worse part of the car, wire brushed and now covered in rust converter, will zinc prime tomorrow morning and paint with black Rust Buster mastic in the afternoon.

Front sub/suspension wire brushed and now zinc primed, paint tomorrow.

If it goes well tomorrow i'll remove the sill covers and see what needs doing in there, but not too bothered if i don't get time, as i won't be using the Bilt Hamber exterior and cavity waxes until the paint has hardened off, so probably in a months time when my extra time off between shifts comes round, once the sill covers are off i don't want to refit them till all the treatments are on.

Satisfying work, should have been doing this last week during the warm weather, i had a week off, but the car was down in Shrops having its LPG kit put on, and i didn't want to piss Toby (The Man) off by covering him in bloody underbody wax.

First time with Bilt Hamber products, used to use Waxoyl but invariably ended up with more on me than the bloody car.

One small mistake of mine, should have changed the auto box oil before the LPG kit went on, bloody oil didn't turn up in time, evaporator and filter and associated pipework sit just above the bloody dipstick/filler, going to be an awkward bugger filling that up, three times they reckon to change it in order to just about clear the TC, oh well.

Finally got the Horizon started and even captured a short video for any engine anoraks.

The throttle cable seems to be snapped or snagged as there is little play in the pedal and it makes no difference to the engine speed. I think it must be open slightly as the car does sound like it is over fuelling! Also the oil light flashes although there seems to be plenty of oil!

Thanks. Can't think of 'owt I need at the moment other than a better bodyshell, though I'm slowly improving mine.

Some of you might remember the Rover of d00m shaking lose one of its alternator bolts, and when I replaced it with a metric one, giving me the one diode missing show from time to time. Meanwhile not only the bolt has been replaced with the original Whitworth one, but also the alternator has been replaced with a new, shiny 65 amp unit.

The result is that now all alternator bolts are lose, including the ones for the mounting brackets.

Is there anyone here, who still doesn't believe, that that car is possessed?

At least it's not a CX, it would have made attempts on your life by now rather than just your wallet.

The hissing snake under the dash is still an ever present in the pug. I have sort of been ignoring it as time is a bit precious at the moment. Yesterday i set off after finishing a 5k and braking turning out of the car park resulted in the square root of fuck all happening. Released the pedal and pushed it again and i had brakes. I think it is the servo but i am going to try and live with it until MOT time to see what else it needs. Judging by the clonking it makes i think the front suspension may need a refresh.

Apart from that i am loving the car. Should be joined by the Triumph next week if the logistics gets sorted.

I know 405's feel pretty solid as shite goes but I wouldn't fancy stuffing one into the back of an HGV when the brakes didn't work on the first push.

Best of luck with the 2000, it looks like an ace project.

Fair point. It is only when it has been sitting a while, hence i think servo is losing vaccuum

If I had a medal, Mr_Boll, I'd give it to you.

Fully expecting to find it forming part of a Primera sill next week.

Also the oil light flashes although there seems to be plenty of oil!

My Solara does that.  The flashing is due to the two wires that run to the oil level sensor on the dipstick being fubared.  I would assume it's a similar setup on the Horizon.

Just got home so soon as I've had a bit of a rest I'll post up a bit of a write-up and some pics. Fairly long mission, that one...1470 miles in all but the old Prairie never missed a beat.

Got a bit of a bargain i think. 4 steels with pug wheel trims and 6 month old Michelins on them for £46.

If I had been in that kind of Prairie, I suspect I'd still be on my way there  :-D

It was a nice day today so I took the scooter into work.  It ran fine, buzzing happily along at 50 all the way to Norwich.  It's actually quite good fun to ride in town as well - being light and with a low centre of gravity it's easy to get the centre stand scraping the road round roundabouts, and although the off-the-line acceleration isn't quite as zippy when it's hot, it's still more than capable of beating the flow of traffic away from the lights.

I hit a pheasant on the way home though, stupid fucking thing.  I didn't even try to brake - experience has told me that no matter what you do to try and avoid a pheasant, it will do everything within its power to stay right in your way, and small-wheeled scooters are not noted for their stability under emergency braking.  So I ran into it at 50, and appear to have killed it outright.  It doesn't seem to have damaged the scooter that I can see, although it did make a bit of a thump.

The new battery for the Spacy turned up today.  It's actually under spec for the bike, but it's the same as the one on the Lead and that started the Spacy with no problems when I swapped it across, so I thought I'd save myself a few quid.  So I now have three working bikes, and as soon as I can get some time off work I'll stick the Spacy in for a test so I can start riding it properly.

I know it is space-ee Eg. like space, but I will always read that as Spacky.
