Bokefords should be banned on grounds of indecency.

Once you've spotted the doors are from a mini, you can't see anything else.

The volvo is lovely it looks like a daily rather than a show car. No idea what was wrong, but it did start and drive on to the truck so probably overheated on the motorway or something. My dad had one many years ago his was a 144S on an F plate. They face lifted them a few times early on. This one is on a K plate, I bet it is still a lighter car than the Saab they put on the top deck though.

Disco has reached £450 on Ebay after less than a day, which by my Man Maths calculation, means anything above that is delicious profit. More importantly, it's more and more of a contribution to my tax bill. If I end up with enough left over to buy something else (like a red BX automatic that's tempting me at the moment) then that can only be a good thing!

Never Give Up On A Good Thing, somebody once sang. With that in mind, I might be purchasing another Corsa B tonight. It needs saving from morons and scrap men, I simply have to beat them to it.

Meanwhile I just cant get on with the ZX, it goes like a rocket and is ace on fuel but its just too nice to be thrashed about everywhere and the interior being destroyed by cycles.

With that in mind if anyone is interested in buying it or my 306 TD hatchback, get in touch. Im after a diesel estate (preferably Bosch pump veg friendly) and may be persauded to lob a couple of hundred quid in.

3 new calipers and rear discs and pads. Not sure whether to try and sell as is or since it still drives fine try WBAC

Might be time to learn about rebuilding calipers. A rebuild kit is probably not very much and it's an easy enough job for me to be able to do it. Failing that, Ebay is a good source of cheap refurbished calipers - about £35 for one for a BX. Fitting new calipers, pads and discs is not difficult, even outside.

Only issue I found when rebuilding calipers is the pistons can be a complete pain to get out, possibly requiring use of compressed air depending on stuckness

What DW said ... Refurb calipers + disks/pads you should get the job done for a fraction of that quote.

Depends how worn the pads are. If they're low, then there's usually enough piston to grap hold of with pliers. Had to do this with our Mini's calipers. Cost less than £10 to rebuild both calipers.

Twostroke will pm you the details when i get home. Might make its own thread but any interest in it as it stands?

What flavour of Volvo is it? It once took me 6 weeks to change a brake caliper .

I'm off work for 9 days. Having had to work Christmas and New year, I'm going to get very, very drunk. Bottle of Zobrowka been calling me from the cupboard since the 25th Dec. MMMmmmmmm.

The Royale is a kit car from the company of the same name who have a range of different vehicles of which the four door Windsor is apparently better known.  The Royale is also based mostly on Granada bits.  Having had a bit of a Google about, I reckon I quite like Royale kits as it happens, they seem to have some quite nicely proportioned things for what is often a very horrible sect of car design.

So now I, and by extension you, know.

Royale also did a kit called the Sabre, which is quite a nice-looking thing.  There was one at the RAF Marham track day a couple of years back - gave quite a good account of itself.  2.9 Cologne powered, I believe.

Don't mention Volvo calipers... Mine is off later today for the garage to change the borked NSF one after it ate the current one in 10 months. I'd have done it myself but brake repairs and I don't get along very well...
Hoping to get the broken one back from them and another out the shed to rebuild though as having a spare set of front calipers could be handy.

Wasn't happy with the headlamp repair on the drivers side of the Cortina so cut it off and welded in a new panel

Also had to remake part of the panel it joins to

Well, I spent most of the day at the garage driving/moving different cars waiting for my Rover to be repaired. It didn't even get a look in. I did however get some free premium wipers as a sweetner/apology, my car will get worked on tomorrow and its actually got quieter wipers now which I'm happy with. The old ones were bloody noisy.

I also managed to find a Micra owners manual to finish off the pack I bought from the scrappy in Sussex. It's now been chucked in the Micra along with some other bits I bought for it. I got a wiper motor and full exhaust system to go on, but as Ma_Sterling has been ill and with Christmas/new year happenening, she hasn't done a full week at work for the last few weeks so money is a little tight. Nevertheless, the parts are there ready to be popped on when money loosens up a bit.

Damn, had a phone call from my local garage where the Rover's been since Friday awaiting the removal of the knackered waterpump and fitment of the new one.  Turns out my bargain £5 OEM pump doesn't fit.  Fortunately he's a good chap and knocked most of his profit off a correct one from his supplier, £35.  Oh well, buy cheap, buy twice!  Hopefully it'll be back in action tomorrow.

I know the engine in it's a replacement from a T-plate 820 but I assumed they were the same basic engine - perhaps not.

This week, I am mostly being philosophical about the Discovery sale. Yes, it's a car I've wanted for years. Yes, it's a fairly good one. Yes, I enjoy driving it. But at the same time, I'm not sure I'll miss it all that much. I never seem to have time or funds to actually go off-roading in it, which makes it an unnecessarily expensive road-only car.

Offers for it continue to come in, but aren't tempting me so far. They're not insulting, which is nice. 116 watchers so far. Maybe I should add a ranty bit stating how many are watching it and expressing annoyance that more aren't bidding. That seems the done thing.

In other news, I have repaired* the 2CVs rotten windscreen panel with aluminium tape. The upper section is completely rotten - as in the paint seems to be structural. I found rot in the lower section too, which means I need one of these.

£243.70 before my tame welder has a go at fitting it. Yup. I really do need to sell the Disco!

My V40 had no caliper issues at all till 132,000 miles then ate three of them in the next 10,000 miles. If all the replacements last till over 250k I won't mind.

I hope you don't turn into that White Peugeot 405 on eBay bloke.

Thankfully, I'm relatively sane, so won't be ranting any time soon. In other news, I'm still baffled as to why the Sirion wants to cut out on left-hand bends. I could try cornering more slowly, as it doesn't happen when my wife is driving...

Bugger bugger bugger.

Just spoken to the garage.  The 220's waterpump was a predictable nightmare to get off the car, seized bolts snapped off, ended up being cut off with gas.  Radiator removed in the process and found to be leaking like a sieve as well.  I did know it was a bit tired and it was on my to-do list but sounds like it's completely shot.  They're waiting to get pricing on a new one, ebay not showing much in the way of low-priced options and I can't be sure it'll be the right one anyway.

What was originally a £5 DIY job is turning into an expensive malady.

Just had to be rescued from the car park at work as had left the lights on when I drove the Visa in this morning. Thankfully someone at work had some jump leads as I had taken mine out of the car when moving house the other week and had forgotten to put them back in.

Its not the first time I have done it. I always end up doing this after driving a more modern car for a while as I get used to the buzzer letting me know that I have left them on.

I hope I never get a car with automatic lights as I will be dead within a week of getting back into an old banger.

Can you get the rad re-cored?

Not likely!  Just been over there to inspect the damage, the radiator is absolutely shot to pieces, the fins are rotten and a good portion are gone altogether plus the top hose connection is leaking so it's had it.  Never mind, a new one is about £70 which I could do without but it does need doing and it may as well be done while the cooling system's drained and in bits.  On the plus side, it now sports a shiny new waterpump!

Annoying but it's another thing you won't have to look at/repair for a long time once done
