Correct, also not to be confused with the instrument maker Eko.

Cavalier oil change disaster.

First it didn't like the Pela so I drained it the traditional way.

The oil filter was an utter bastard to get off, it was FFFFT.

Next, the filter Opie oils sent me was completely wrong, it doesnt even fit on the thread.

The old filter is not reusable as its a bit mullered now.

I've screwed it back on and filled with fresh oil at least.

The worst part is that NOWHERE sells the right filter. Fuck!!

Talking of things that shouldn't ever take too long.

I've had an absolute mare of a couple of weeks.

Firstly, got my car back from engine replacement and they'd forgot to put my locking wheel nut in the car. That's fine, not normally a major biggy, but I've taken a day off work to change the springs and fit some brake pads ready to go away and the garage that did it is 80 miles away and I've only just realised when I've come to take the wheels off.

So spent the first half of the day fashioning a 10mm socket to fit. The first one broke. The second one broke the adapter so had to find a 1/2 inch one that I could spare. That managed to get 3 wheels off, but the 4th had been torqued up so ridiculously that it wouldn't go, even with a breaker bar. So had to resort to a dremel and carefully taking off the sleeve and then using an Irwin socket to remove. I've thrown them all away anyway - I had another set already.

Once I'd done that, the 17 year old rear suspension decided that it really didn't want to come off. Rusty as a ginger man's bollocks, the casing was falling to bits. So having got me where I was going, I'm now going to have to take the whole rear apart again and put 2 new replacements in. Also, whilst changing the pads, the front discs were absolutely rotten. Literally bits of rust coming off in my hand.

So now I have another dozen jobs to do. Replace rear suspension, top mounts and drop links (I got one side out, but the other didn't want to move). Replaced the front discs, but then that took 10x longer than it should, because (I estimated using my trusty torque wrench) that the callipers had been tightened to 130 lb/ft and clearly, it's awkward trying to get a breaker bar in. WTF.

Next week, Stu replaces his Steering UJ, bumper clips, manifold gasket and exhaust springs. This car was supposed to just need a little tickle 🤣

Oh and the JODB reader I bought for the ECU doesn't work. So I'm going to have to go back to the drawing board (anyone have a JODB reader near Milton Keynes?).
EML came on last Sunday, but went out when I restarted the car. I'm guessing this might be the benefit of having a dual-ECU, but not if I can't actually read the fault (it's not piggy back, but one ECU drives the cars systems - locking, alarm. immobiliser etc., the other the engine).

Really looking forward* to going back to work tomorrow.

Thought it best to prepare Alison for the commute. A clean. And a new tyre. The old one was an advisory item on the MOT Test..

According to the Mann Part catalog, which I find really good it's a w610/3.

You should be able to find an equivalent part for that for others.

Pull the part number for common brands, and go into your local factors? They're not exclusive to the Cav they'll be for loads of other cars.

My Local ECP has the right Mahle & Bosch filters?

Cheers man, seen all those and they're the same ones that are too small.

Panicking a bit now like, I mean how the fuck can a Vauxhall have a completely unobtainable oil filter????

Remember this old lump?

Finally got around to connecting power to it tonight.  It buzzes, which probably means the vibrator is vibrating like it should, and the buzzing gets quieter after a few minutes.  I can see one of the valves glowing when I look through the case vent too.  No smoke, no horrible smells, no excessive heat so that's probably a good sign.  I'll retest it with the case off so I can actually see what's going on inside.  Nothing from the selector light, and not able to pick up any static or stations (no surprise there, no aerial attached for a start).  I just wanted to see if it would power up and do something, which it does, so it's probably repairable since the general consensus seems to be these are pretty crude old things and easy to work on.

/ Yup, it's actually spelt Ekco, looks like a type CR32.

Spelling "Ekco" comes from "E.K. Cole and company" They did all sorts of domestic electrical stuff, radios, tvs, etc. I think they did vacuum cleaners as well ?

Well the one that came off seems to be a Napa3018

Allegedly these are alternatives to that.

Another BX14RE, but a Series 2 car...We totally need to get that and mine together for a photo shoot some day...once I've got mine both roadworthy and at least somewhat sorted the interior anyway!

Could be quite a fascinating project actually to do a proper comparison between two almost identical cars spec wise from the different generations.  Especially in how differently they drive with the suitcase Vs TU engines.

Gratuitous photo because I love how this car looks.

Sounds like a plan to me. Massively looking forward to when yours is back on the road.

Looks like my former Nissan Almera has been MOT'd. It was due to expire on 22nd July. It has the same old advisory of the chipped windscreen that it had for years. I dropped it off in Suffolk dealership so it's probably in that county now.

I always thought cans of Juice exploding in hot cars was a bit of a myth. It seems not !

im sure the electrics under the cup holders appreciated being drowned in hot 7up

The clutch judder which I thought had been eliminated on the P6 has returned, although perhaps not as bad as it was before. I'm convinced it's something to do with heat soak as it only seems to happen when the car has got warm on a run, then been switched off and left for a while, then driven again. Either that, or motorways - a long, relaxed cruise on A roads seems fine - I did well over an hour on Wednesday without any problems, but the judder seems to come back in after a 70mph blast. 20 mins each way to the Amberly meet today and when I got home it started to judder again.

Very odd.

Anyway here's a photo from this afternoon alongside Fumbler's BX.

Back in the early eighties whilst on holiday with the parents in the south of France, there was a huge bang from the boot of the brand new ( two days old) GSA. A glass bottle of sparkling water had exploded.
