An 'Arold! With a Spitfire engine. and no visible rust. Paying a deposit tomorrow so hopefully I'll get it this weekend

^ Just had a big old LOL at that!

Volvo based news is that after a large amount of faff I managed to change the pump over but it hasn't made much difference. It is however less of a wobbly bastard. Also noticed a disintegrating corrugated hose between the exhaust and air intake so a new one is on order.

Oh, I crashed it into a wall as well.

I'm starting to think you've been spending too much time with Mr Bickle Barrett - do you have access to a similar barn?!

Posted

I wish I had a barn. Somebody in Malvern wants to buy the Standard so that will be going sooner rather than later I hope and Herald taking over daily duties. I do hope I like it, or the big hunk of manky plastic on my drive might start to look like an even bigger mistake than it already is.

Have a crappy ebay photo to tide you over

Best reg plate obviously sealed the deal for me

That FE is ace, you should have got some more snaps though!

Yeah I should have, thing is, it was his car on his private property plus he met me at the house just so I could pick at it - he'd already hung around for nearly an hour while I dissected it so I wasn't comfortable taking up more time taking photos.  In all honesty, by times I'd finished there wasn't much to take photos of - 2/3s of the bootlid and some very saggy rear wings were all that was left of the back end and I robbed it of its sad expression when the headlights fell off.

I did suggest he gets a video of it being lifted - if he does and I get to see it I'll post it up!

That looks ace Barrett. I'm sure it'll bang and rattle a fair amount more than the Standard, but think of the turning circle!

What do your colleagues make of these 'moderns' you play about with? ;)

That's really impressive for something with the aerodynamics of a filing cabinet and pre-war running gear !!!

I must say I love the spare wheel message, too !

Right, time for another unexciting 760 update :

After a couple of days of marinating in WD40, the bloody main beam switch still doesn't work. Even more annoyingly, I tried to borrow the headlamp relay from my 740 to make sure this isn't the culprit, but you can't get to the damn thing without dismantling half the dashboard, and I'd rather only have one Volvo in bits for now. So I'll have to spend £10 on a used switch and take things from there.

Next, I decided to remove the centre console to tighten the handbrake and investigate the gear selector lock, which wasn't working. The former was easy but someone had clearly fiddled with the latter in the past and once I disassembled the mechanism it became clear that bits were missing. Despite my OCD telling me otherwise, I gave up and put everything back together, as I must finish the MoT work before tackling less important issues. At least, I was rewarded for my hard work by finding a total of £1.61 at the base of the selector !

Here's a picture of the interior at the end of play this morning... I suspect there will be a few screws and clips left over when I put everything back together :

I always go by the theory that they put too many in at the factory and expect you to remove a few, a bit like the layer of paint that comes off when you T-cut it.

So, the Disco had a go at lugging logs around yesterday, but a long slog up a steel hill seemed to thin the engine oil enough for most of it to fall out (albeit through a pair of unions that should have seals but don't). That's now away to be properly sorted out.

So, a chance for the BX to shine.

Needless to say, it swallowed two loads like this very easily.

Made absolutely no difference to how it drives. I'd estimate the load at 200kg or so as some of those logs are very damp. They'll be stored and dried out. The only problem is when you're loading. The back sinks as the weight increases, and if you're not careful, you smack your head on the tailgate, which has now dropped to head height. Had to keep starting the engine every now and then to let it self-level.

I wasn't sure it'd be up to hauling a trailer full of logs as well, so an old friend made a re-appearance.

My mate borrowed this from the mate I sold it to, because his own Delica has gone all K-Series. It's now over 102,000 miles (was 96k I think when I had it) running on LPG. The back end of the sills are a bit ropey again.

I might be getting an utterly, utterly hateful car tomorrow. So hateful in fact, going straight to the weighbridge may be the best course of action.

Another Vauxhall

Oh it's far worse than that. In fact it's the third worse car I can think of.

Fixed the suspected cross-thread in The Volvo's #1 spark plug hole this afternoon using nothing more than a spark plug chaser and two minutes of my time :D

If I had known how easy it was to sort out, I would have had a go at doing so long before now. As it was, I left the issue unresolved for six years, as the plug was secure and the car ran fine; at the time I was terrified that I might make matters worse if I tried to fix it, which would have made a very dark period of my life even darker...

It will be something from Ford I'm guessing Focus.

.

Very, very close. But a far worse car than that.

Took my car to the local Kwikshit to see if I could get my AirCon regassed, no such luck, seems the compessor has decided to take a holiday. I'll get a second opinion from someone but it looks like, once again, ill have no AirCon in my car again. Oh to have a car that has AirCon that actually works.....
