Going to start running my Estima on veg oil, just got to get over to tesco.

I would consider running the Disco on veg, but the hippy in me can't cope with the idea of burning a food stuff as fuel. More people buy veg for cars, price goes up, food gets more expensive, more rain forest destroyed etc. Mind you, dino juice is not without its issues!

Judging by the whiff I got from the exhaust the other day, someone has already been giving it a go on veg. I'll see what I find when I do the fuel filter swap...

Back from the tat collection mission. Will let Volksy regale you with kwalitie photos of his new chod once he has cleaned it etc. The journey was pretty uneventful. We missed a massive tailgate round Manchester that had developed when we were heading back in the opposite direction, which was nice. The most exciting part was that a house up the road from where the car was being sold from, had put its rubbish out and the wind was blowing MONSTER ENERGY DRINKS cans all down the road which we collected and put in the bin. Sadly I don't have any photos of that so you will have to take my word for it.

Here are a couple of shit photos of said shite:

It looks good. It will tidy up nice with a bit of polish.

There were other cars but we did not get photos of owt in time.

Remember I was banging on about buying this back...?

I used to own it between 2008-2010 and sold it dahhn saarf to someone and never saw it again until a couple of weeks ago when it popped up on eBay and Gumtree. I rang up this morning out of sheer curiosity to see if it was still there and managed to negotiate a deal on the machine!!!

It's coming home with me at the end of the month after three years away. Chuffed to bits!

I continue to be baffled by engines.  Went out to the Alfa earlier on to commence dismantlage in an attempt to find the cause of the missfire, and bugger me if the fugging thing wasn't running on 4 again.  I took it round the block to see if it'd start misbehaving once it was given some welly, but nope.  I've taken the engine cover off anyway so coil packs etc. will be easy enough to get at if it does start misbehaving again.

On the flip side, the Sym moped has decided to start playing up.  I admittedly hadn't been anywhere on it for a while, but I'd started it up every weekend.  I started it up this morning and it fired up happily enough as usual, but when I took it out on the road to give it a blast down the block, it got 50 yards, then started spluttering and died.  Took the plug out and it was soaking wet, although whether that was the cause of the poor running or a result of it I don't know.  The bike certainly seems to have a good strong spark when it's turned over on the starter.  I've tried it a few times since then, and the pattern seems to be the same - if I leave it for an hour or so, it'll fire up quite happily, then run for a few minutes and conk out again.  Trying to restart straight after it's conked out is a futile exercise.  I did wonder whether it was the coil breaking down, but it didn't feel particularly warm when I felt it.  I'm stumped at the moment.  I'm going to fork out for a new plug and HT cap tomorrow, as the cap isn't a very good fit and the plug is getting on in life, but if that doesn't help I don't know what I'm going to try next - I'm really not sure I can be arsed dismantling the engine.

It's doubly annoying as I bought my old 100cc Yamaha Aerox back off my mate last night (I PX'ed the Bali, which I'd completely given up on), so I was hoping to sell the Sym while it still has a bit of T&T - not looking GR9 at the moment.

Qwality:- Tuesday at 5:40pm, I'd just left my maths exam in the centre of Leeds and was making my way to the bus station at Infirmary street when I heard this beasty being given the clog through the railway tunnel - sadly I didn't get a picture of it but glad I didn't imagine it either!

I'm considering selling the beige Maestro. I don't really want to as it's been very reliable until recently and it's great for lugging stuff around in. Also it's a beige Maestro.

It will need some fettling though as currently it's not starting (carb/choke issue).

If anyone fancies it, let me know. It'll be cheap, and we'll try to get it going as well. It'll be less cheap if I tax it at the end of the month. MOTd til the 3rd of August.

Reason for sale? I have literally no money, and I have use of several other cars anyway (none of them as useful as the Maestro though). Also I REALLY need to get the Simca back on the road!!! Any funds received will go straight into getting that sorted.

I have 3.5 cars, and I need to sell one, even though I don't want to. The Simca owes me a lot, and is worthless as it stands. It's hardly been on the road since I bought it, and I want to drive it again. The Mini is not for sale, so that leaves the poor Maestro.

If it goes, it's gotta be to a good home though, so a 'shiter is preferred.

I think the amount of people using new veg oil for fuel is tiny compared to old Ian Walkers' crisp factory or something. Stop buying crisps!

Pump diesel has a quantity of biodiesel in it.

Nice S4 there.... They're a bit more stealth than the later shape, same engine? I was followed, and then passed by a Avant at great speed and it got me thinking that they're getting quite affordable now.

Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk 4 Beta

Yes, basically the same 5 cylinder 20v turbo engine until '97.

Avants and automatics are easier to find, lots of the manual saloons have been engine raped so finding a decent one is tricky.

This one has only done 101k and has FSH but has sat for 4 years as the owner couldn't afford to replace the stupidly expensive "UFO" brakes.

Posted

Blimey I thought only the V8's had those dumbass UFO brakes. If ever i was having a pub argument with Ferdinand Piech about VAG engineering achievements on his watch i'd wait till he was just getting into his stride about galvanised bodies and TDi engines then i'd whip a picture of those things out and rub it on his face.

There must be some others that can be grafted on like off a later S4 or S6 or something.

Yeah, thankfully they only left them on for a couple of years....

The easiest option to get rid is to fit the front struts/disks/calipers from a later car.

Aye. That annoys me too. They're pushing to raise the bio content, which'll knacker up our lovely old cars and the environmental benefits are a load of crap anyway. All this eco-crap is starting to do my head in. Bloody wind farms that are rubbish, but necessary to get a 'green' tick in the box. Ugh!

And I don't eat crisps.

It's HIGHLY unlikely, but would anyone be interested in the ex-dollywobbler BX estate for scrap money?  It has no tax or test and the local yard will give me £160 as is which I'd put towards a replacement.

I had every intention of saving this car, and indeed someone keen with a welding machine could do just that as the rust on it isn't terminal from what I've seen so far.  The mechanical side of things are cheap to sort, needing one LHM return pipe and finding which pipe in the fuel system has an air leak.  Car runs and drives perfectly fine and posed me with no real problems aside from the air leak occasionally meaning I had to manually prime - button on top of the pump - some days.  Good battery and a few decent spares on it if you got it as a breaker.

I don't really want to frag this car, that was never my intention with it, but I'm not sure I have the wherewithall to get it sorted any more and instead need something a bit more troublefree and road legal.  However, I have a 2 car cap on what I can have here so the BX will have to make way when I find a replacement, therefore I'm after a quick sale *if* anyone is interested in it.

The car has given me a good amount of enjoyment and served its purpose well for the time I've had it.  I'll likely not be able to replace it if/when I do part with it.  BX estates in any condition are getting harder to find and this one is the desireable runs-on-veg model.

Picked this up today, via A frame and a borrowed works Pissrat estate.

It was bought via ebay and I only really got it to pinch some parts from it and press the rest but it's really actually quite tidy. No rust to speak of, the TD engine runs spot on and everything seems to work bar a rear electric window. Best of all it has 6 months MOT which I didn't know about. I'm thinking of selling it on or maybe even cruising about in it for a while, seeing as it will run on veg, WVO, old engine oil, Tesco basics squeezable cheese e.t.c.

But wait, there's more tat!

Now, I didn't need this Bluebird, or any other car really but it looked too good to miss and was in danger of being scrapped, so I dropped by and scooped it up from Retrogeezer and family.

It drives bloody lovely, looks bloody lovely and IS LOVELY! I want to keep it but the Wife isn't convinced, but if I listened to her I'd have no old motors at all.

It will stay under a cover on the drive for the time being and then.... who knows? I have a nice gas kit that will go onto it nicely though.

No! This is my private storage area/inlaws drive.

I am imagining things Tim, or did you buy another car recently for spares that you ended up keeping as well? It does seem like you have a (good) problem taking bits from a car and then scrapping it.

Whatever, good work on the Bluey and congrats on the most recent Xantia.

That Xantia looks lovely. You've managed to score two Xantias both in delicious colours (though I can see that the metallic green one might not be to all tastes!).

I remember you telling me about this the other day now. Did not put 2 + 2 together.

Green 2CV has now gone to a new home. £200 for the 2CV, sold the front bumper separately for £50. I've done worse on cars! Will give £50 to my neighbour as we used his Disco to drag the thing to mine. It was towed away by a (newish) Fiat Panda and a home-built lightweight trailer than mainly seemed to be made of aluminium ladders.

Now I can get started on a disc/pad replacement on the 2CV. This is where inboard discs become a bit more of a pain in the arse as I've got to disconnect the driveshafts. The plus side is that I don't need to jack the car up. Also an ideal time to give the brakes a good bleeding. I last changed the fluid in 2003...(but LHM isn't hygroscopic, so it does last better).

Posted

Yeah the Green HDi Xantia I bought recently was going to be a spares source for another Xant with borked brakes which I wasn't able to collect. I'm going to ask the wife if she would like my Hdi Xantia to drive about in which will allow me to put MK1 TD on the road so I can power it with WVO or spaghetti hoops or something. It can go on a classic policy too. It will mean selling her Mk4 Astra estate, which she loves to bits.

Posted

With the hatchback and boot on the Xantia, I'd think it's almost as practical as an Astra estate. The citroen does however have the magic* suspension and being a dizzler should be more economical for the Mrs. The only downside I could see is the later Xantia is probably more complicated to fix than the Astra.

Now that the Princess has had the track rod ends done, better (though not great) tyres fitted, suspension pumped up, tracking sorted, wheels balanced and most recently the rear shoes replaced and handbrake adjusted it has highlighted just how crap this car was to drive when I bought it.  I'm appalled at my terrible judgement when I bought this car because it was, as my Dad quite rightly said, "woeful and scary" as a driving experience when seen in hindsight.  It is a novelty having a handbrake that works and brakes that respond when you expect them to, I can only imagine what it'll be like when I get the front brakes renewed.

Asda had veg today for a £1.00 a litre if anyone is after some (5 litre bottles).

Not even these?

I had seabrooks tonight, well nice they was.

I've had someone press buy it now on my smart less than 24hrs before it was set to finish. GR9 I think but then I look at the buyers location and it's Brighton.

I've driven from here for Brighton and it's fucking miles away. Infact it's pretty much the most miles way you can be and still be in the country

Stranger things have happened I suppose but I've not heard anything yet. I've a feeling it might be a "my dog sat on the internet" jobs.

When it comes to the BX I am a flip-flopper.  I'm still going to view Granny Cobbler's Fester when such an opportunity presents and will do so with an entirely open mind as it does pose a solution, but if it's not the right car I'm back to square one again.  I do and I don't want to part with the BX, it's so frustrating.  I blame the Princess entirely for this situation, that or the Welsh, either's possible.

My Mk2 Escort is nearing completion... finally.

I sent a friend around to see how it's doing, it doesn't look too bad. I'm a bit surprised. It'll need a proper paint job, but it's looking ok.

I'll leave this here, because it amuses me.
