I did know about the not turning the cassette upside down thing, I just hope the cassette isn't on borrowed time from the knackered plugs. Do they often just die? I might try and get a secondhand one to go in the boot as an insurance. I've been out again in it wasting petrol; it's more comfy than our sofa! Feeling rather pleased with it. The underside is disappointingly showing quite a bit of surface rust so it's going to be wire brush and Aldi metal paint time...

The Jag is going to see my tame mechanic on Sunday so he can diagnose the cause of the OMGHGF

If you're on UKSaabs, there's a fella selling three DICs at the mo for 50 quid a pop. As an added bonus they're all in working order.

I wish he'd done that a month ago before I shelled out £150 for a new one from Neo Brothers. My old one (engine warning light intermittent with it) is now in my boot as a 'get me home', just in case.

On the plus side, it was an easy peasy job - I'm a mechanical idiot and even I managed it in five minutes (including new plugs, natch).

If it's never been done and you can't be 100% certain it's always had the correct oil you might also want to get the sump dropped. The Aero was always specced to use fully synthetic but other 9-5s weren't, and sludging followed by sudden engine destruction resulted.

I've just looked at how much those Alfa's go for. Feck me. That thing is probably worth more than my house.

It's nice mind you.

Was the owner looking for somewhere to live by chance?

There was a very nice fiat 500 in front of it on the trailer. I expect it's going to the business behind for some TLC.

I might have to see that guy on the Wirral! The car seems to have been relatively well looked after and the previous owner had a sump drop so I feel I can probably avoid it. I will be changing the oil more regularly than the intervals suggest however and also changing the ATF...

Is it on fire?

No, that’s the mess on the window sorry.

Because of rust the bracket for the rear fog light on our mx5 had snapped. For two years it was held in position by tie wraps.

I found an old Halfords reversing light in the garage. circa 1970s.

Took it around to MikeR who gave me an orange bulb and painted the glass with children's water based red paint.

There was nowhere for the earth lead as it was designed to be earthed through the bra get. and the mx5 fog light bolts to a plastic bumper. So i found a way to attach the earth lead.

Took me ages. attachicon.gif20180827_142755.jpgattachicon.gif20180827_142828.jpgattachicon.gif20180827_144855.jpg

MOT passed.  I now see how little use this car has had in the last year. Less than 300 miles in total.

It's VERY loud. The Cobalt Blue Stainless exhaust is not an exhaust as such. More just a duct to take hot gas from the Cat to the back of the car. No real silencing done.

68 reg Mclaren Senna!

Yeah, was thinking of getting one these. But I shelved the idea for now.

True story - I have actually been to the exclusive launch party for the McLaren MP4-12c (catchy name, innit?) held at a McLaren/Bentley dealership in Dorridge near Birmingham. The dealership used to be a an old Jaguar garage and former petrol station.

The party was great, servings served by lovely young glamorous looking ladies in short dresses. I was hopping in and out of new Bentleys and McLarens thinking I was gonna be told not touch the cars but for course most people there were the wealthy/rich so of course they must of thought I was as well. I guess I should have turned up in Arabic robes, put on an Arabic accent and asked if I could borrow thier test Bentley Convertible ;)

From what I can tell the senna is a limited edition that was £750,000 list price. But all sold before they were made,so now they’re worth two to three times that. It’s mad. It was very ugly - I preferred the Alfa.

My colleague at work said it looked like the new batmobile.

Workmate was on day off today, and he and his wife left this morning in their Corsa and Fiat 500. Now they are back and there is a matt black Dacia Duster in the drive.More to follow!

Only ever been to Liverpool by train twice (both times to collect a car) and both times there’s been people getting pished early in the morning - is it that bad?!?

Posted

I went to Beaulieu autojumble!  Well, I headed for it but the traffic was so bad I lost my rag and came home again.  Might try again tomorrow.
