Would be interested in the Stellar if you're wanting rid, Ray.

Duly noted as the first interested party. I'll keep everyone informed of my plan as it firms up and accept that anyone who expresses interest will, in order of appearance, have the right to change their mind before or after inspecting the car.  Yes, it will be a free car and I want it to have 12 months MOT but it may not be the sort of car you want (for long!). I am totally biased and love Stellars.

I just had the sensible* idea of taking the engine/autobox combo from a Rover 623 and putting it in an R8.

One day...

Fetched the Bini and it’s a solid little thing and a nice spec. It has glass sliding roof, Chilli Pack, and full leather. Also has traction control and dynamic stability.

However, the dash is lit like a Christmas tree, headlining needs attention, boot lock needs sorting and A/C is inoperative. Needs brakes all round and some fettling on the body.

Wheels are original but I’m not sure if I like them or not. Pedal rubbers have a Mini script on them and it appears that early incarceration’s didn’t have a glove box, just a parcel tray.

Is it worth the effort? I think so as these are a good steer and there is decent enough interest in early 2001 motors. It was also cheap, but that’s testament to the condition.

I will keep you all posted in my Bini thread and turn it into a project.

Been reading on AROnline and if the reg is Y***OBL like the pic of a black One I posted upthread, then you have a press/dealer demonstrator car!

You also likely have a very low VIN/chassis number.

The reason for this essay: I do not want to part with this car but my health is forcing the issue. I use a 2017 Mitsubishi Mirage CVT for all my driving needs as it gives me the reliability and confidence in that reliability that only a modern car can (well, this particular one at any rate :-D ). My provisional plan is to submit the Stellar for MOT - it is due in June - and provided that it either passes or can be rectified without ridiculous cost, I'll offer it on here at no cost. I will not knowingly release it to banger boys, but once a new owner has it, it is his to look after and use as he sees fit. I cannot be arsed with selling it. This is not definitely going to happen but is very likely, given my circumstances. If anyone is interested, please either reply in this thread or pm me if shy.

Hey, Ray. Sorry to read about your health.

I would hope that

1) The new owner is local to you so that, if you wish, you can keep in touch with the car.

2) Nobody would actually take the car for free, despite your best efforts, and that any party would recognise your kind gesture with a good donation to either you, your family, or a charity of your choice.

If the only reason you don't want to sell is the thought of dealing with Joe Public, then I and I'm sure a few others would be more than happy to help you get a good price for the Stellar. I don't know your financial situation, but I do know (intimately) the hidden costs of being a cancer patient. Money is always helpful - both during palliative and eol care, and (without being morbid) once you've hit the slip road to the promised land.

Whatever I can do, I will. Just shout.

This times a million.

My suggestion is that one of the forum members roffles it on your behalf, that way we all get to throw a couple of quid your way and someone gets the car for near enough free as was your original wish?

Difficulty there is making sure the right person looks after it. I'd buy a ticket of course, but the chances of me being able to keep it on the road would be slim

Sorry to hear of your situation, Ray.   I am sure that the Stellar will be looked after in or through the AS fold, it must be a difficult thing to plan ahead for but cherished cars are not something I would be happy to leave to chance, either.   Good luck.

If anyone was wondering - the eBay sellers of number plates that now say you must provide documents are lying, they’ll still just send them without :)

Re: My Stellar post of yesterday.

Many thanks for the good wishes. I am not dying yet but had a close call in hospital in March. Current medical 'fixes' are similar to my attempts to keep older cars on the road and useable i.e. I am living independently and ok most days, but for how long? Nobody knows the answer to that even if healthy. The probable answer in my case makes it seem wise to plan day to day.  Next month, who knows? Next year, well, I would gladly accept the surprise of reaching 2019.

My plan to offer the car on here as stated in my post will firm-up once the MOT situation is known. I'll book the MOT in the next week or two. Thank you for the various suggestions as to how I might see some return on the Stellar's departure, assuming it goes ahead.  I am not a millionaire but the financial aspects have no importance whatsoever.  I simply want to give the car to someone suitable (to me) who has expressed an interest after I have got an MOT on it. I have indicated who is first on the list and have had subsequent expressions of interest by PM. These will take their place in the queue. No roffles, donations, part exchanges, favours (!!) or courtesy payments are necessary or indeed wanted. What I do want is for the car to go to someone who will enjoy it for what it is, a somewhat rare survivor of a South Korean car produced when Hyundai was still in its cheap/budget/throwaway sector of the market, and to get a space on my driveway.  My son, who lives with me, has just acquired a Volvo V70, need I say more (it is huge!)?  It replaces his Tipo 1.4ie which he has put on eBay.

I have not yet decided what to do with my 1961 Reliant Regal or my 1967 Peugeot Moped.  The latter may be offered free on here in due course.

Ray, I'm sorry to hear you are unwell. Your Regal is a fine car, and it deserves to be looked after, which I am sure someone here or elsewhere will.

Good luck ray. I am sure it will find a good owner who will look after it for you.

Can your son help with the Reliant as and when needed? You need to keep it, its a credit to you.

All the best in your health sir. Met you a few times and you seem a sound gentleman. The regal will be a motor well deserved of a good home, the moped I'd certainly be interested in for myself though. If you need anything at all I'll do what I can.

My ignition parts are supposedly coming tomorrow.

The scaffolding people are supposed to be here already but have been delayed by an unspecified amount of time.

Will the Honda start before they get here?

I was offered an out of MOT calibra with red top engine today for small money.

Any interest for it on here if I pick it up?

I flipping love my job sometimes. Today, I got to drive a Massey Ferguson 7620 Tractor!

It was an absolute hoot. 200hp, automatic transmission, air con, it’ll even drive itself FFS. Far superior to a Toyota Avensis in every way.

I can’t think of a single person on AS who obsesses about shitty old Vauxhalls; especially End of Life ones with a one way ticket to the bridge.

Shame.

Good luck tho!

Thankfully it looks like our neighbors driving days are over. We all suspected that she has been unfit (read: fucking blind) to drive for quite some time.

I've just sold a Keane CD on ebay to a guy in Peru. He lives here. The modern world is amazing!

(i.e. why would anyone want a Keane CD?)

poo count is always important, never mind the country!

Complex to administer, as Peru is outside ebay's global shipping programme. Had to do an online chat to work out how to sell it to him!

Chances of failure and full refund I reckon must be 50/50...

Still amazes me how many countries have houses with half built first/second floors.

I know its a tax dodge (under construction etc.)

Last time I was in Greece every other house was like that, not sure if still so since the EU bailed them out.

Surprisingly, I sent a few high-value LPs to Peru and, despite operating outside Royal Mail's guaranteed delivery zones, they made it there no problem.

I had no idea early-90s Bristol shoegaze on the Sarah label was a thing in Peru.

And now Keane.

Princess has started singing.  Suspicion is a rear wheel bearing or a brake, I need to jack it up and have a wheel wiggle to find out for definite.  It's only just started doing it today so hopefully it'll be something cheap to fix I've already got bits for.  Gut feeling is it's going to be one of those jobs that needs the problem to get a bit worse before I can properly diagnose it since it's only an occasional noise at the moment and easily drowned out with other things like the fan blower motor.

One of my cats came in to the house on Sunday with a sizeable dollop of fresh bird shit on her back. Dutifully attended to the mess and sent her on her way.

Get home from work today, same cat, identical scenario, only difference being this time the avian poo had hardened to the texture of concrete. But in the very same place on her back fur.

Methinks Trixiebean is dozing under a pterodactyl's nest and they are letting their waste rain down on to her fur.

Managed to extricate with some judicious flea-combery and much hissing

Howay, who among us wouldnt shit on somebody elses cat given half a chance?
