They aren't even half worn I don't think. A good few mil of tread left. I feel a bit better now, because our neighbours can't get off their drive even with snow socks on.

Yes, but we only need them to get off the driveway. Plough has been through to clear the road. Staying in with fire and tea FTW!

No snow here in Southern bit of Pembrokeshire !

God do I hate the eBay alert notification. Turns out my one and only bid on the cheapest HS carb I bidded on 10days ago was actually the highest bid. A spur of the moment thought of buying a cheap one so that I can learn to strip it down and not worry about breaking a car that it was attached to.

I don't actually have anything to fit this onto!

No new snow since Friday here but it's going to be a cold one.

I'm wishing I'd checked the antifreeze in all the heaps I have lying out in the open here.

If you follow some of my threads, you may remember this.

It's what sparked my interest off in getting into old British cars. Then a rather large thread of me dilly dallying around looking for MGBs. Anyway it came back onto eBay and it's just been relisted.

First time it was old pictures. Now it's been relisted, he's put up new. Out of the pictures, this one caught my eye...

Looks like I dodged a bullet there! I have need to give a small thanks to all those on here that told me to avoid it. Admittedly, buying it may have made for a more intensive owners thread...

I wonder if it'll be a barn find in a couple of years time?

I wouldn’t be too upset by an ‘on tow’ sign, it’s a 40 year old car. The Webasto sunroof, on the other hand...

Cop driving instructor, did long detailed posts & videos about advanced driving techniques? He did the same on PH if so, some of the few posts worth reading there.

Let the pressure down a little if you need to get out of the drive.

Or try the Nippa instead. It's just had a full set of brand new winter tyres, has skinnier rubber and no PAS, so you can actually feel what's going on!

Anyway, much snow fail, auction fail and then more snow fail here.

Is the north of Scotland not part of the UK now? We've had a lot of snow and it's fine.

I did that JUST to piss you off.

I passed out last night under the heavy influence of night nurse and brandy, woke up this morning and someone's painted my username green. Bastards.

My name is Bucketeer and I am a moderator. God help me.

I reckon so. He was otherwise known as Reg by quite a few folk.

Now you can't just rant about threads being in the wrong place, you can do something about it! I look forward to the superbly organised forum. :D

It's not just you, it's been all over the media.

I suspect lack of practice and austerity cuts are why parts of the rest of the country can't cope with snow. Winter driving should be included in the driving test. The stories of people abandoning their vehicles on the outside lane of a dual carriageway and the like are ridiculous.

It reliably snows every winter here so we have the infrastructure to deal with it, there's uproar if our council tries to reduce gritting routes.

There was uproar about reducing gritting routes here too. They still did it. Now the Shitefest Test Hill is a complete death trap. It's like sheet ice today.

But yes, people are clueless and hopeless. Abandoning your vehicle is ridiculous, as it then just adds to the chaos.

Anyway, I removed 15cm of snow from the Nippa so I could move it into the sun for some natural de-icing. Not a hint of wheelspin! Nankang winter tyres FTW.

MISERABLE BEAST now has an MoT (and a horribly bodged up 'test requirement' exhaust while I save for a stainless replacement).
It goes 'BRDDDDDDDDDDDDDDGNNNNNNNN BANG BANG BANG' (but only in reverse); it had rusted away to nothing along with the custom hangers that can't even come in a shipment overnight from Japan. The hole's plugged, but the hangers need buying in the interim. God knows what the ECU makes of it all.

The heater works - but feels weak. I suspect a new 'stat is needed.
The wheels require balancing AGAIN because they're still throwing weight: I had new tyres fitted shortly before the gearbox blew. The first place (that left the wheels imbalanced by 20 grams) at least got the alloys on the right way around; a lot of people forget that SVX rims are handed. The second attempt got the balance better but it still isn't right - with the exhaust wobbling and resonating it's hard to work out what is and isn't behaving the way it should. My arse spirit level reckons that the wheels are still slightly out and the rest of it is the exhaust having a conniption fit. It's a tuned system and it feels down on power as a result.

The tyres could have distorted; there could be driveline vibration after everything came out to sort the 4EAT; the exhaust could be throwing everything out of whack.
It's the best I can do at the moment as project kitty cash is tight.

I'll know what works and what doesn't when I temporarily sort the exhaust hangers.
It's a VTD car, so it's slower flat out but I get an active centre diff and a rear 3.90 LSD. Torque split is quoted differently depending on the markets - I think mine is 45/55 F/R. It definitely likes to move around in the snow as I was holding it in big slides across a snowy car park without much difficulty. Traction and stability were/are pretty amazing, but not infallible.

It'll be away and garaged pretty soon because I don't want the minging NSR arch to get any worse.

Mrs DW pointed out that we did not have enough eggs to make cake. Therefore, I had an essential journey to make! The Honda managed to escape the driveway today.

It actually seemed better now the snow has compacted. The ability of this car to stop on frozen slush is nothing short of remarkable. That's the winter tyre difference.

OMG DRIFT YO!

Is it worth a trip to windleys to see if the one there has any exhaust left?

I've owned The Volvo for 14 years today, which is a long time to own anything, let alone a car; I have only owned a few books, some ornaments, some soft toys and a leather jacket for longer.

May it keep rolling for many more years to come!

EDIT: an actual photo from the eBay listing for the car. Compare and contrast with how it is 14 years later:

That's longer with you than most cars will actually exist new - scrap, a worthy purchase!

I've had mine just short of a year so far, it will be many many more though as I'm not letting this one go.

I've had my Capri just over 16 years! Time flies! It doesn't seem that long ago.

That's a good idea, actually.
