MGB's are shite. They used 1940's technology, badly done. Buy a mk1 mx5 if you want a true "British sports car"

I think the 80's spawned a few cars that stand the test of time, but not sure that BL/ROVER/AUSTIN were involved in that.

The British didn't make a decent affordable sports car until the mid engined Metro / MGF

And all of this is bad because....?

They look cool though!

I've done the mx5 thing. Twice.

...There's still plenty of old stuff on the roads down there, saw a G reg 3 door Discovery in Haverfordwest and a Mk3 Capri in my sister's village, also in the village is the G reg Saab convertible still parked up (I think it's been stood for about ten years now)...

Despite my dislike of Norfolk as a place to move about in quickly, I did spot a load of shite still running around. Saw a very clean 1986 Mazda 626, a couple of Toyota Carina IIs and some assorted shite that I should remember but had such a shit week last week, I just couldn't be arsed.

Today down Bristol way I did see a Green Capri being towed on the back of a trailer and a G-reg Escort bumbling it's way through bloody Keynsham.

I hated my 'B' with a passion. Love my various MX5s.

The same happened to me in my 106, and I've seen it happen on clios which use identical rear brakes, seems common. Terrified me as I lost brakes while flying towards a busy roundabout.

Anyway, I'm sure the rear drum "is" the hub on these, IE you have to take the hub nut off to get the drum off.

Yes, I'm aware that the hubnut has to come off, but it is utterly jammed, I might have to cut the drum off with the grinder. The same happened to the green one 5 or 6 years ago, but it has 3-stud hubs...

It's because the previous owner/ garage idea of servicing is an oil and filter change !

A decent service would have the drums off and take that inch deep wear lip that is now stopping you doing it !

You will need a hub puller to get it off, the screw in type rather than a slide hammer. Probably best to buy a fitting kit with the new shoes as well, linings coming adrift on these is quite common. I am surprised the breakdown people didn't try to get it off at the side of the road. A few years ago I went out to a 306 that had done the same thing took about 3/4 of an hour but came off in the end without too much damage.

Today I shall be testing the People's Car's ability to do the sort of thing that people do by doing a tip run in it.

The boot certainly seems fairly cavernous, bigger than both the Polo and the Puggo which have both proved themselves to be capable of lugging rather a lot of stuff, if a bit slowly and grumbly.

It looks like I could fit all of my earthly possessions in there, which is the basic idea, I have too much shit hanging about.

Heyo, the squabs fold - unlike later VAG mobiles.

"But, but - we've put in a lever to fold the seat backs flat!"

Yeah, because that makes up for it. Twunts.

I think some of the lower Punto models have back seats that don't fold at all.

My 87 escort 3dr estate had rear seats where the bases didnt move and the backs only went down to 45 degrees !

MOD issue POS spec I suppose

I suspect Isofix is the problem. On the MG GS, the rear seat base actually sinks as you tip the backs forward, so you still get a flat floor. I thought that was quite neat. Doesn't give you the 'bulkhead' that folded seat bases give you though.

60/40 split seats on BMWs are a cost option too! Premium car you see.

When I had my 205, I became quite a dab hand at back seat squab removal as it gave loads of extra load space (especially if Mrs h was driving - front seat forward stylee).

It did well, being able to open the boot without turning the car off was a big plus. The lack of any security to the spare wheel went from readily apparent to unbearably loud without the seats and parcel shelf to deaden it though.

I think the 205 is the very pinnacle of fitting far more into a very small car than it has any right to.

960 initial report: few issues, will investigate.

It was a long ride back from FOADWORX to Peebo but the car managed it without any problems.
Quiet compared to the 305 (and very torquey with it). Velour interior quietens things down markedly; upgraded S40 stereo excellent; standard alarm still works; IRS rides like a live axle.

Happy days.

That's very nice. I'm sure there is one of these. same colour on a Holiday Inn advert on the tele. They all shout "Lets go to Slough" and they all pile in. Very random.

I've seen that, think you're right. The kids are excited to see their grandparents or something it turns out.

People think I'm adopted when I rock up. No biggie. Just loads of space for flat pack surstromming.

Honda jazz is a lesson in efficient rear seat design !

Spaceship Civic and newer too. Honda magic seats are amazing. Seat bases fold up or put the seat backs down to get a totally flat loading area. Great for transporting model RC aircraft!

I thought instead that the Honda Jazz has been doing that for over 15 years...
