I've been offered an ML430 as a swap for my Cadillac. The proficy could be fulfilled.

I've also found a Laguna headlamp on ebay for £27 inc delivery, which has the ballast resistor the cadillac needs included. When I asked them if the resistor was included they said yes but it was untested, which makes me think it's broken. Worth the risk or should I just try my luck at the local scrappy?

Scrappy would be my choice.

Attempting some datsun de-rusting, at this rate there will be nothing left to weld to...

Just weld round the jack pad, save putting the wheel back on.

That's one patch welded on, now I have the sill and inner wheel arch and I kinda wish I hadn't started...

Still, this is the very essence of Autoshite - love for the unloved. Great to see! I'd far rather watch stuff like this get derusted than Ferraris or some such.

My feeble news is that I washed the 2CV.

It's actually quite nice to wash the 2CV now it feels worth the effort. Previously, she was so rusty that it was just utterly depressing.

Following that, I did a tyre pressure check on the fleet. Scarily, they were all low. Not very surprising given they haven't been checked for months. Or in the case of the Nippa, about 18 months. It had just 20psi in the front tyres when it should have 32...

Look forward to seeing what difference that makes when Mrs DW takes it out later. She'll probably complain that the steering is now too light.

I also ventilated the ZX given the footwells are soggy. The ZX isn't really fitting too well into the fleet at the moment. I don't really need the amount of vehicles I own. One 'fast' car in addition to the 2CV is really enough. The Honda isn't for selling (even though it's far, far inferior to the ZX in terms of driving dynamics) so I guess the ZX will be off at some point.

Just before Christmas work had taken my regular bus off the road, this time for good. Quite sad as it was by far and away the best bus we had, anyway upstairs knew how much I liked it and offered to have the plate transferred off it onto my car. It probably seems silly to most but really didn't cost me anything so I thought why not and today the V5 finally came back so I could finally make all the changes needed:

Now it just needs a good old wash.

Got the car back from the paint shop. It looks like a million pounds now - deep gloss shine on the wings with no flaws. It was covered by their guarantee / reputation / word, but I gave barry £10 for the tea fund as he fitted it in as soon as I needed.

Just travelled to say bye to Mrs SiC great nan today. At 101 she had a great innings and we were very lucky to have her last until and also fully aware + talkative for our wedding. A few months ago, we took her out and around Bristol to see all the sights and places that she used to visit when she was younger. Pretty her last proper outting and she thoroughly enjoyed it.

All the family got to say goodbye today, even if she appeared asleep or appeared not fully aware that we were there. A couple hours after her son (wife uncle) left, she passed away.

:(

That's a pretty good age, all the same. My own Nan passed away when she was 100, in 2008. She reckoned she'd "seen and done enough, son". I remember her for many things, not least of all saying wholly inappropriate things. She spoke to those of us assembled at her 100th birthday. "I've had a good life, and I think I didn't do too bad when I see you all here. Mind you, the Kaiser was a right bastard"

101 isn't bad at all, but it's never easy no matter how much you expect it.

My wife's grandmother outlived both hersons and two husbands. Not something I would like.

I just ordered two 4L bottles of fully synth oil from halfords - £24 is a good deal.

I will never forget my gran breaking down on her 100th birthday in front of us all, the root of the problem was that all her friends where gone, she said the very same thing for the next 6 birthdays too, she hid it well the rest of the year though and i still miss her to this day.

Is that halfords oil offer in store as I could do with stocking up.

Garbaldy - your gran died at 106?

That's an incredible life span. Much respect.

My wifes nans 90 this years, for the last 2 years she's been carrying a "do not resuscitate" letter with her as she doesn't want to live any longer, she said all her friends have died, her husband died 50 years ago and she never really got over him and she's always in pain or struggling to breath. It's really sad but she wanted to live to see our daughter be born and then to see her 1st birthday but I'm not sure she'll make it much pass 90 as she's really struggling to breath these days. :(

MOT today. Was concerned that headlight bulb replaced two weeks ago was brighter than the other side, but the older bulb helped me out by blowing last night. New bulb fitted this morning.

Cracked side indicator replaced with cheapo pattern part (which looks pretty good and fits well tbh)

Popped in a new air filter and did an oil change for shits and giggles. Everything seems ok, we'll know in a couple of hours. Wish me luck!
