So lately I've had this E28 up for sale, It sold on eBay at £1396 which was a wee bit under my original asking price. As expected the winning bidder fucked me about so I offered the next bidder a second chance at £1376.

I also had it advertised on gumtree at £1650 so when someone wanted to come and look at it yesterday I thought it was worth trying to get my original asking price.

The guy who came to see it turned up in a new 5 series and said he had an older E39 and E34 and wanted to add the E28 to his collection. He had a good look over the car, opened the bonnet, had a poke about under there and started it up.

I let him test drive it out of the yard, he poked at everything inside the car while trying to stay on the winding single track road out of the yard, he started to open the sunroof asking does this work?

I rarely open sunroofs especially on old cars so was annoyed that he'd almost crashed while trying to open it, after closing it it started to leak which it has never done previously.

We get back to the yard and he says: I'm going to be honest with you, it's a really good car, I've been to see others recently but this one is the best condition and the price is fair.

I put it on the ramp for him, he has a good long look underneath.

He asks if there is any negotiation in the price, I say to make an offer?

£1500?

Deal!

We shake hands and he arranges to come back today with his friend...

Before I click like, is there a 'but' coming?

feels like a cliffhanger...

Well...

My prospective buyer was keen to come back and see it, he sent me a couple of texts during the day to arrange a time, we agreed on 4pm.

I arrived a 4pm to find him and his mate poking about at the car.

He comes over and says hi, this is my mechanic...

The mechanic introduces himself but says he's more of an enthusiast.

The prospective buyer points at some rust on the front valance and tells me he never noticed that yesterday, he gives it a good prod with his finger, pulling some of the blistering paint off in his hand.

His Mechanic says, You've been trying to sell this for a long time? I say around a month. He asks if it's the original paint and I say I can only assume so, he lifts the bonnet and has a good look under there. He had a small LED torch which he used to have an extensive look inside the engine bay. He opened the oil cap then sniffs it, then put it back on but tried to screw it on the wrong way.

The mechanic tells me my car is very rusty which is the exact opposite thing his friend said the previous day.

He tells me he would offer £600 maximum for the car. I said that his mate had shook on £1500 the previous day, that was the price, take it or leave it?

They talked to each other in Polish for a minute and the prospective buyer says: I'm just going to leave it.

Fucking Wank stain.

Meanwhile my second chance offer on eBay has been accepted and the car will be collected tomorrow night.

Anyone keen for a spares/repairs Trafic SWB at £500?

Intermittent rough running - kangaroos down the road like a learner. Suspect the crank sensor is dirty again and or finally needs replacing like I should've done ages ago

Long MOT, clean and tidy body apart from a leaky roof

Took the "Glaasgae" Sterling for a run around the block in the weekend. Temp gauge attempted to get into the red but didn't quite make it, the fan was fanning for its life. I really need a new radiator on this thing, some new sills or rewelded up again and a new MOT so I can go out and rag it again...However, I did have a quick passing thought about offering it to the scrapman. I probably won't though.

Talking of Oil, remind me not to park outside my father-in-laws house again.

We got home after a short visit on Sunday, and he phoned up to tell me I have a massive oil leak and it's all over the road outside.

Or rather he tells my wife this, who is almost as OCD as he is.

I told her to tell him, it was because I let our son help me do the last service and it's still dripping down the side of the engine.

She is not impressed by my "it's done 168 thousand miles, it's probably a small oil leak, but I'm not doing anything about it as it'll rust proof the underside of the engine"

I have not reminded her that last time I took her advice on oil leaks I ended up paying through the nose for some twat to take the head off an AX 1.4D, to tell me that he couldn't actually stop it leaking.

I blame whoever owned it before for not fixing it.

You should send him the link to this.

1.9? 6 speed manual? Mileage?

What are the engine and gearbox/clutch like?.....cheers

Yep, yep, 206k

Engine is great when it's not exhibiting the current fault - cleaning the crank sensor sorted it the last time

Gearbox is good, selects and drives in all 6 no problem and no untoward noise etc. Gear selector cables are worn and held on with cable ties - I have the repair bracket ready to go on but it's been fine for a while.

Seriously doubt either are original - previous owner told me it had an engine and box but there's no proof

I'm looking forward to some fun messages and generally being fucked about by people of all nations.

I've listed my W211 Merc on eBay , within 2 minutes I'd had an offer of £2000 and a text of £2300 ' collect it tonight mate' .

The best message , so far, it's only been live for about 90 minutes, is;

" I'm very worried about the mileage on your Mercdes well (sic) you take £2500. Can you meet me near Cardiff?"

I've replied

"Happy to alleviate your worries by not selling it to you. I advise not trying to buy high mileage cars for your future peace of mind"

He replied " £2600? "

Bugger, I've been keeping an eye out for a high roof one to replace my T25. Neymind.  Ex water vans seem to be all over ebay nowadays but not at £7k thanks!

Someone offered me £300 for my £600 Daihatsu Charade once.

I said: "OK."

He said: "Really?"

I said: "Yeah, what you do is, you go down the cashpoint and give me £300."

[pause]

I continued: "Then, you go down the cash point again and get another £300 out, giving me £300 for a second time."

"LOL sarky cunt", he replied.

Just seen the most amazing cortege on the A43. No fewer than 7 Rolls Royce with 1x3 sequential number plates (1 UXR onwards). I thought it was something like a foreign diplomatic tour, but behind it all was an 80s transit and a 70s Bedford truck with flowers on board.

Someone with money and taste evidently.

There was  a Hunter at the nec show in November with dents in the roof from where a car was stacked on the roof at the scrap yard. It was class, the chap left them as it was a part of its history.

307 failed it's MOT on:

Track rod end

Headlight alignment

Number plate light (yes I am embarrassed)

ANNNND welding needed on the drivers side sill. At the rear. Bit surprised at that given its a 10yr old modern, but then again all moderns are shit?

Went down to Lidl today to buy a set of their cheap wipers for the Saab, after destroying the current set while they wiped when frozen ice on the screen that we've been having. Cheapest I could find in ECP/etc was Bosch only at £20 for a pair. The only ones they had nearest were 21" ones. Apparently suitable for the 9000 and 9-3 but not 9-5. The 9-5 has 22.5" wipers.

Bought them anyway and even though they're smaller than the originals, they wipe the screen just fine with no noticeable missed areas. 5quid for the pair. A bargain if they work.

Let us know how you get on with the Lidl wiper blades, I need a set for our budget motoring 206. Didn't even know Lidl did wiper blades.
