I nicked the cheapo Lidl radio out of the red Rover today and shoved it in the Getz, so it now has choonz.  A bit of fiddling with fuses (including replacing some apparently intact ones) and it now also has a boot light and a rear foglight - the interior light is still temperamental, but I think that may be due to a dodgy cheap LED bulb - I didn't have any working incandescent festoon bulbs the right length to try it, I might have to liberate one from the CX tomorrow (I've still not quite worked out why it needs three bulbs in its interior light - just seems greedy to me).  I also replaced a failed rear number plate bulb, so it has a full complement of working lights - although the nearside sidelight is a bit dim, the bulb has gone black but it seems to be pretty much impossible to get out without removing the battery so it might have to manage a bit longer.

I've been using the wee Hyundai to run to work all week.  Now the exhaust is back together it's a far more civilised thing, it seems to be doing pretty well on diesel and the slightly slippy clutch isn't really an issue on the commute.  The heater is way better than the Rover's, and I haven't found the non-functioning HRW to be an issue - the airflow through the cabin is such that with the heater blowers set to the windscreen it eventually demists the rear window as well anyway.

I've quite often found myself a gear lower than I thought I was - a combination of relatively meek power output and it being a 3-pot so sounding like it's revving lower than it is means I quite regularly find that I've been driving at 60 in 4th for several miles.  The little heap is honestly starting to grow on me, and I'm seriously considering forking out on a new clutch.  Which will just leave the oil leak, front suspension rattle and clicky driveshaft to sort.

In other fleet news, the Transit now has choonz as well - I spent a short while this afternoon peering shortsightedly up behind the dash trying to read a tiny serial number on the side of the unit, and Jamiewilson of this parish was then able to supply the correct code for the stereo based on the serial number - witchcraft if you ask me.  I took the Transit to pick up some part worn tyres that were advertised on Gumtree - seller turned out to be someone I knew from years ago.  Got the tyres loaded up, went to turn the van round, and reversed up a kerb not realising there was a 2" drop on the other side.  Nearside rear wheel went down the drop, diff wedged itself on the kerb and the wheel span helplessly in mid-air.  Of course, having not seen a single car go past in all the time I was there, as soon as the van was blocking the (narrow country) road it turned into a replica of the fugging M25 at rush hour.  Chap I'd bought the tyres off ended up having to fire up his diesel Terrano and drag the back of the Transit round by its towbar until both wheels were back on the ground.  Bit embarrassing but no harm done to the axle that I can see.

After spending most of the day playing GTA 5, I fancied a kebab so rolled on down to local kebab shop. On the way I thought I'd visit my cars to check everything was Ok. I found my neighbour trying to start his '02 Skoda Fabia (again, this happened sometime early last year when I helped him push it again to get it started.

The battery on the Rover didn't seem to work, I couldn't be arsed figuring out where to connect the terminal on the BMW so reconnected the battery to the Rover and it fired up on second turn over! I manoeuvred the Rover out of its space and positioned it to the Skoda, connected all up but again the Skoda wasn't firing up. Eventually after putting the Rover back we started pushing the Skoda out for a bump start, the second attempt was successful although I almost went arse over head as the Skoda drove off.

Took the Rover out for a quick blast around the block, it did everything asked of it, though the temp was quite high as there was very little water in the radiator, I quickly parked it up, as I did I heard the fan happily doing its job and the temp eventually went down to where it should be. This car seem to really want to live!

**Calling all Mk1 Sierra owners**

A scrappys near mine is cubing this Mk1 on Monday - does anybody need spares before it goes?

330fbrs.jpg

It's at AS Car Spares, Red Lodge, near Bury St. Edmunds in Suffolk.

Phone Number is 01638 751327.

The Base could use a Rear Bumper to replace the mark2 version currently nailed in place I would have thought?

Carlisle and back by 09.20 ya not sleep man.

I thought that too, but that one's a Ghia and the bumper is different so we'd not be much better off. Open to other views though.

We don't really need a mk1 rear bumper, we've got a bumper from a mk2 or a Toyota Corona or something that's held on perfectly well with nails and cable ties. Job is officially a good 'un.

Ta though, Stixy's name is noted for other needs.

I would have thought the shell would have some value for oval racers.

Looks like someone's already started that process...

Just been to a scrappy to get some ambassador bit's for rovamota, standing on the rusting hulk of a 6 cyl SD1 while removing a window from an ambassador was a bit like being in a timeslip back to the 80's , scabby cat living in the ambassador wasn't very happy mind and I shit myself when it came flying at me

Although I really really want to be sawing the back off the Rangie I collected yesterday and fitting the chequerplate and "One Life" stickers, I am doing the droplinks on the MOT failed Mondeo as I don't want it to feel neglected and start playing up.  Mild weather and so far the rain's held off - although it's not looking good for later.

I bought one of these cheap block testers from eBay. You attach to the expansion tank, run the engine up to temperature and if the colour of the added liquid changes you have Co2 in there suggesting a leak. If this is all non-scientific bollocks, let me know. But theoretically this 'proves' neither the Skoda or Mondeo have HGF.

Boost has been restored to the Facebay find People's Car. There was a big hole in one of the vacuum hoses, fixed by robbing a hose off the dead V70.

woooop! Reb was enquiring as to how to extract moar oomph.. Luckily for you an earlish 110bhp will likely have the old style ecu and require physical chipping and spend.

This guy just won my 5 series on ebay, anyone care to place bets on the likelihood of him turning up?
