That looks ace :D

Today I have been towed 30 miles in a 3.5t van by a Ford Tourneo,  the tow pole is now utterly fucked but we made it.

Kallista was a Panther model, is it one of those?

Panther Kallista, now painted in Ford Panther black.

WTF IS THAT????

Looks like MG Midget door tops, windscreen & dash?

The doors are based on the Midget but 700mm longer, I had to use two Midget door skins per side - using the lower halves and joining them up.

The screen is modified Midget, the body is aluminium but dash is bespoke.

Ta, I found your other thread after posting that.

I must admit to trying an LED H3 bulb last year in a spotlight*, but rather than the nicely-centred spot of light from the halogen equivalent, it gave apache coverage...

*While I couldn't resist the pun, the light pattern was utter pants.

Well my lad couldn't insure is 406 v6. So I have put in my name added it to my policy and with 16 yrs no claims it's still £150.00 till the end of March. He is insured on his prelude so can now drive his Peugeot.

Beige1100 has painted the wing on the ex-cms206 205. Looks pretty good for a rattle can job in below freezing weather.

He has also a work around for the buggered heater control switch which has slightly improved its ability to clear the windscreen.

If anyone asks, tell them it's the passenger ejector seat oil slick and smoke screen controls.

This damn thing made me spend 2hrs in A&E last night and this morning in the eye hospital, after I bent down an got an eye full of leaf. Cornea abrasion apparently. Or really blurry vision and sore eyes.attachicon.gifIMG_20170103_084528.jpgAlso means I can't drive until it's healed up. :(Luckily the eye apparently heals very quickly and "should" be back to mostly normal in a few days...

Good luck. I had a tennis ball in the eye in the early 1980s. The scar tissue is still floating around - thankfully it is only really noticeable during Snow White out conditions. I think the brain tries harder to see things then.

Problem is that my lads insurers want £500 extra to insure it.

Problem is that your lad acted on impulse and didn't do his research beforehand.

Being younger than us, he will learn the hard way like we did.

Like when I bought a BINI cooper based on some indicative quotes I'd done using fake details of 17 year olds and 20 years old's as named drivers, and found that once she'd passed her test at 17, they wanted an additional £2000 to add the 20 year old as a named driver and  wouldn't add the 17 year old at all, because I'd put her fake details with his date of birth in the quotes I'd been getting

Strangely It eventually ended up with them both insured for £1800 extra, but not the £1000 extra I'd thought it would be when I agreed that it would be purchased.  Given the choice of pissing off wife and daughter, I "found" some money in an old ISA.

But chances are that a) If he changes insurer, he will find that it's cheaper

B) Dad will lend him £500 with repayments of £2.50 a day until it's all paid.

When I was 21 I worked out that the high insurance on a 205Gti (dream car) was offset by the cheapness of them at the time, because of the high insurance costs.

Man maths persuaded me to go for one.

I got hundreds of quotes, mostly thousands of pounds or a flat refusal. This was before internet searches, bloody yellow pages and days on the phone and visits to every brokers office.

Eventually I got a stomachable quote and went car shopping.

After I bought one, I went back to the broker to get the cover...

Er, no "sir" this quote for £800 was for a 1988 car, you have bought a1989 car so it will be £1100!

I nearly turned his desk over.

TL:DR Do all the homework in the world, they still screw you over.

I have now OFFICALLY spend MORE on MV6 than Purchase Price from JohnK.

I have done 6500 miles Since Sept 30th 2016.

Brakes All Round (8 pads and 4 discs) - Mainly Mintex

2 Front Wishbones - Moog

2 Front Wipers - Er....not sure.

one air filter, GM

One oil filter GM

6 litres of genuine GM 10w40 Semi Sythettic

2 Rainsport 235/45/17 tyres for the front.

Full Alignment check and adjustment - Front was out on Toe IN and Camber on one side - Rear was out on One Wheel toe in.

Total Including Labour (I Changed the oil myself) £580.

Which (when you add what I paid John) strangely is about the same total as buying a 2.6 one with half the miles from a back street dealer.

Not that an independent dealer one wouldn't have had the same issues within a few miles, and I couldn't find another 3.2 for sale anyway.

This is not slagging John off by the way, I paid a fair price and I knew that I'd throw some money at a high mileage car if I liked it, and I must like it because when the mechanic took the keys to change the front tyres, and do the alignment check, I started getting all anxious like a parent waiting for a minor operation to be finished on their child.  And that hasn't happened for a good while.

Dad won't. Dad has lent him the £150.00 for the insurance. So lad will drive peugot till insurance runs out and then sell his prelude to fund a more reasonable insurance wise car purchase . Then dad will give him anot her £46.00 and become the proud owner of a 406 3.0 v6. That's what it owes my lad .

What was the reasoning behind that?  Stretching an existing door surely can't be much easier than designing a new one?  Although admittedly I know naff all about door design.  (Assume the stretch is 70mm rather than 700, or I've got my sense of perspective all wrong.)

I used to regularly pass a Lima on the way into work - haven't seen it for a few months now though.

I've probably missed the thread, but did anyone undertake a collection mission on New Year's Day?  My money is normally on Wuvvum.

Nope, soz.  I haven't bought any cars yet this year.  I R FAIL.

As much as I love a diesel engine I think in time it will be petrol only. Can't be doing with all this dpf regeneration, dual mass flywheel and adblu bollocks. Just more hassle.

A lot of petrol-engined cars now seem to have DMFs though.  Although that's still only one out of three to worry about.

Ok, it's a late 2 litre injected. Been off road a while, allegedly dry stored.

attachicon.gifIMG_7234.JPG

Initial impressions are that it's ok, everything seems to work, no visible rust, good rubber etc. I'll just whizz it in for a test when I can. It'll make a nice comparison with my old 21 turbo, which feels a very different machine.

I had an H-plate 21 hatch that colour.  Mine was a Quadra, with the 12 valve 2-litre engine.  Nice thing, but much lower-geared than a 2wd car - not sure why, as it didn't really have much in the way of off-road credentials.  Although it did have a rear diff lock.

FTP in the daily Audi A4 this morning, cut out and drifted to a halt. Typically the coldest morning of the year at -3 and I had to wait 2 hrs to get scooped up.

On inspection a high pressure pipe had fractured due to number three injector being loose. Easy fix but parts not available until tomorrow. Only my second FTP, both in VAG products - previously the oil pump stopped pumping in a Skoda Superb.

The worrying thing on this failure is fuel and heat, if the engine had been hot and DPF regenerating then surely a fire would have been the most likely outcome. As luck would have it I was only a short way into my journey.

Not necessarily - diesel is rather less flammable than pez.

Nothing quite like the first day back at work and receiving cheap Chinese stuff with a big li-po in that has the capability of burning down the office.

Charger is made by a reassuringly named company too.

I suppose at least they put the manufacturing company name on it.

Not really a grin or grump but have tentatively shook hands on selling the cortina. £2500 is a good price for the car really as similar cars are advertised for twice the money and don't sell where as, i've not even had to advertise it.

It'll be the first time i've been without a ford of some sort since i was 16, kind of sad but also a bit relieving in a strange way.
