I continue to fiddle while Rome burns, or the tailgate rusts, on the Favorit. Chinese aftermarket wing mirror just about fits but can't get all the screws in tight as the threads are rubbish! It's on anyway. Nice wet floor well as well at the moment...

Why blankets and a cover? You shouldn't cover a car with blankets. They'll hold moisture against the paintwork and you'll get eventually get microblistering and/or lacquer peel.

Okay you have me worried. I used the wrong words, it's actually sheets under the cover the blankets are on top of the Mazda! Sheets can't hold much water against her under a breathable cover can they? Got to have her covered in the garage as the bloody thing is not that water tight and the car always comes out covered I shit and fluids if I don't put the covers on.

dont be fooled its prolly a earth fault- they used an earth pin which isnt up to the job (they used the same ones on a primevil)

Where's the earth?

I've decided I've got an earth fault as the radio display flickers when I change the fan speed.

Don't cover a car in blankets. Seriously, it's not good.

Why do you need something under the breathable cover? The point of that cover is to allow it to 'breathe" and dry off any condensation. I'd think the sheets will stop that from happening?

I'd just use the cover.

I have received this in the post just now, incomplete address, stamp not franked and nothing to say who it is from!

But I still think I know which member of this forum sent it to me, thanks very much.

That's got Hairnet written all over it.

Surely it would be from "Complete Nutter" instead then?

It keeps happening, I buy a non road worthy vehicle, the V5 arrives some time latter and I file it because it will be some time if ever the vehicle is used on the road.

Next I get a nasty letter from the DVLA saying I have committed the crime of the century and if I do not tax it or sorn the said vehicle I could be fined 1000 or the car towed away!

Yesterday was the Visa GT, when the Rover 75 saloon V5 comes:

I must sorn the Rover

I must sorn the Rover

I must sorn the Rover

I must sorn the Rover

etc

I think the DVLA are all screwed up, today I have received the V5C for the Rover 75 saloon and dutifully went on line to declare SORN, the message I received says "As your Vehicle is currently on SORN you do not need to use this service". I am the new keeper as of the 6 Dec, what's going on with them?

Too soon. Due to everyone buying Black Friday shite bargains, the left hand hasn't caught up. Try again later?

They have had 9 days to update themselves.

Never change...

Gave the bloke who's shed I store the Dolly 1850 in a wood burning stove last night, shed is more corrugated steel than I remember it being so chances of burning it down are slimmer than I thought. Hoping to head down there tomorrow to look at the Civic's binding brake.

Fella has also said I can use his second Mk1 Clio as a backup car once it's MOT'd which would be handy as now my parent's have moved house I have no means of transport without the Honda...

Went down the road to see a Smart Roadster that a local garage was selling. Way over what I wanted to pay (I'm looking at sub-£1.5k), but I wanted to sit in one and see what they're like before bidding randomly one on eBay, winning it, collecting it and then deciding I don't liking it! Also I find its good to look at a supposedly good (and expensive)/not-totally-shagged example so you know roughly what to expect/aim for.

This is the one:

Was told it wasn't there and was at a local sunroof specialist place having a new roof runner fitted as it was leaking! I know the Smart Roadsters aren't the best for being watertight (by any stretch) and even the dealer admitted that too. Not a good start in my search!

Went down to the dealer again today to look at the Roadster. It'd come back in, but my god was it still so soggy.

Apart from that, what did I think of it??

I <3 it! They're so small, cute and huggable! I want one!

I didn't get to drive it though as the roads were chockablock rush hour. :(

I also need to get rid of this Saab.

the one i'm on about is in the rear light wiring- nissan shared was forced to use cheap renner electrical connectors from about 2001 so as a consequence you get some strange behavior most noticably from rear lights which can be stopped by adding a new earth wire into the system

sorn isnt so long now its permanent

once you sorn it its stays sorn - dont think change of keeper matters unless you tax it

So now you CANNOT transfer tax but you can SORN!

Change of keeper cancels SORN

^^ this. They write an arsey letter to you to threatening of bad things if you don't SORN immediately.

This was about in 2007 when I went to Paris.

I've seen that too! Must have been 1999 ish and I was on a river trip from Paris to honfluer.

Can confirm this even if the vehicle did not previously need a sorn i.e untaxed since God was a lad.

We approve of your Scandinavian box based motoring picture.

In Citroën related news I fitted some doorcards to Andy CMS' 406 estate minicab weapon in exchange for a security keypad in better nick than mine but without code. The idea is to build one decent one out of the two as despite being told it'll end in doom I quite like having it. I've also broken the cigarette lighter somehow so it'll be off to the breakers for a replacement.

This afternoon I will mostly be lying underneath the Mercedes to ready it for welding .
