I was huffing and puffing about 12" tyres a couple of weeks ago (155/70/12) and it boiled down to Falken or Nankang. The Nankangs were cheaper but have a much higher wet grip rating. I decided to give them a try - seems fine so far although I have hardly used it since fitting.

Big decision...

Had the 944 serviced and it came back with a big long list of stuff to be done.

Most surprising were the big holes in the sills, mot in June passed without advisaries?

Then there's the lack of compression....

I've had it for more than 20 years and it's done almost 300,000 miles.

So...

Fuck it, I couldn't see anything I really fancied and the Wiki page said that it'd do 0-60 in 6.5 seconds,

That's apparently the same as the bigger engined S2 can manage because it's lighter.

The sills were welded last week at a cost of £££

And it's booked in for rings, bearings, valve seals and too much to list next Wednesday at a cost of ££££

The right decision?

Apparently therre are only 100 944S left on the road.

I'll bet it will be worth £ this time next year!

Transit connect vans are a ball ache to work on.

Cant get at anything without having to first remove half the van.

Next time I am asked I shall politely* decline.

Posted

Yeah, if you think the connect is bad, don't ever try to service a HDi peugeot partner. Best air filter location ever.

I tried to service my C4 once. After uttering 'fuck' 7628 times, I gave up and let Pete's mate Ian do the job for £notverymuch.

Vague steering on the Volvo V70 doing my nut. Tried new wishbones, bushes and new front tyres but its still wandering with loads of play in the steering. At speed it pulls right and the steering wheel needs to be at 10 o'clock to drive straight. Praying its not the steering rack. Ideas would be appreciated.

On the plus side I've discovered a new get rich scheme. Collecting wheel centre caps from amongst the detritus at my local jetwash.

The Escort has been running too cold the last wee while so I ordered a new thermostat.

Easy access, three bolts to get the housing apart, old one out, new one in, tighten the bolts, add more antifreeze..... I didnt even get my hands dirty.

The old one seems very weak and could be pushed open with ease so hopefully that will sort it.

I had the charger on the battery for a few hours but its making worrying bubbling noises so I have unplugged it and will leave it alone till the new one arrives either tomorrow or Monday hopefully.

I also have a wishbone to go on it, but not sure if I will bother as I will be collecting the roffle 405 in the week so the Escort is likely going to be sold. But then given its rustyness and that car values here have taken a surprising dive over the last few months I might end up giving it away to someone or even weighing it in to avoid dealing with bellends and timewasters.

Happened to park with my frontwheels at an angle today and when I was downstairs having a smoke I noticed both front tyres are down to the cords. They're not even that old, just a rubbish budget brand that I can't even remember to get me out of a 'no tyres' situation. New pair ordered straight away from tyreleader.

That's £200 on tyres this week, for two cars that are probably worth £400 in total.

Also agonising over a new potential purchase. Got the cash (sort of) and the seller is keen but it's 600 odd miles away. Will sleep on it again and try and decide.

Do you think you can take a Volvo out of Scotland?

......whether to use train or coach?

If it is Scotland, surely Barrett can get a lift up in the latest Volvo to head up there; however I suspect it'll be French France knowing his motoring predelictions.

Why is it so hard to find a decent quality, accurate, replacement key for a Peugeot 406 :/

The central locking has packed up on the XM completely. It did this about the same time last year. Odd. Must be a fuse, as the interior light no longer works either. Wonder if that means it has deadlocked the rear doors again? FRENCH.

Ball joints? That's exactly how my Mercedes felt just before its wheel fell off on the roundabout.

Old Man has successfully installed one of the projector lights in the A4 and he's even done a good job  now for the other one.

Looks quite good actually, how they perform is to be seen.

I also spotted a 51 plate old-shape A4 today, that was odd. Thought they stopped on Xish?

I put a pair of Tex door mirrors on my 3500 a few years ago.  Lovely bit of kit, until the passenger one got knocked off.  The plastic mount that the pointy screw mates with is chipped and so the mirror won't stay on.

Been thinking of all sorts of creative solutions - 2-pack epoxy putty, fabricating an angle bracket to go under the mount, even ordering a new mount from Rimmers.

Then I took both mirrors off, swapped the mounts over, and that's all it took.  Days of racking my brains, followed by 2 minutes' work.
