Fleet News.

I had the V6 coupés engine running today. This has come as a bit of a boost to me after a problematic month trying to get the Straight 6 Coupe through an MOT. A month of effort that has resulted in failiure ( for a long and complex list of reasons.) It has now been sent to SORN purgatory in a lockup garage where it can languish until I regain my enthusiasm for it. In order to make space for it I've MOT'd the crossflow Rebel which is now on the road and offending the whole neighbourhood and devaluing their house prices.

The V6 hasnt had much progress so far this year so I'm pleased its taking a step closer to getting it back on the road. I'd ideally like to get it roadworthy in the next few months ready for a respray in the winter.

The blue rebel van is still with me despite spending the summer trying to sell it, I regret turning down a £2400 offer for it.

The GTE is doing sterling service as my daily car but it seems to have a prolific oil leak which urgently needs sorting.

I'm increasingly aware that I've got too many projects on the go at one time and am struggling to give any one of them the full amount of time required. I'd like to sell the other 'project' rebel van which has been languishing in yet another garage for the last 18 months and it looks unlikely to get any attention this year. I'd consider selling it for £500 if anyone wants it - Thats for a 1974 Rebel Van with a replacement chassis, Axle suspension, etc all dissasembled.

Saab passed MOT test. Noticed half the front bumper/undertray part is absent. Not even going to ask how.

406 next. Need to replace the stylish white indicators. Suspect list of advisories longer than the car's handbook, but hoping no obvious failure issues. Does rattle a bit from the suspension.

Rover failed it's MOT on sill rot.  No mention made of the worn strut-top bearing, and the hopeless handbrake got through by the skin of it's teeth (18% efficient, limit is 16%).  Ã‚£150 to fix, I'm happy with that.

Bentley should be back tonight (I have had a phone call to say it will - but nothing is certain with Mike!) and that makes me happy. Watch for the rage/panic when I see it and the colour match is even worse than their original effort!

Oh, and they can't fit the parking sensors (surprise, surprise!) 'cos the light is in the bootlid and far too tricky. I bet if I hid a spliff in there he'd have a fucking good go! :)

Those bloody finite lengths of non-bending wire! Cunning trickery indeed, we can only get straight wire in fixed lengths here.

406 went in for MOT. Something interesting stopped for a bit outside.

(406 passed, no advisories, comment on it having the best handbrake he's seen on a 406).

The wiring for the boot lid has a connector on the inner wing each side that you can splice into without having to get to the lights. I found it doing the tow bar wiring on the Rolls. Pretty straight forward really. The hardest part of fitting the sensors would be drilling the holes as they are a big solid old lump of bumper.

What are you doing on the ramp?!

The usual thing during an MOT is to have someone in the car activating foot and hand brake and also the steering. The tester is underneath checking that everything is doing what it should and things that shouldn't move aren't doing.

Not on mine - plastic! :)

I might attempt to drive the p6 into Glasgow tomorrow. At rush hour. I best put the AA on standby.

No Bentley... of course! To dark to wash it and they want to do a decent job. Back here at 11:00 in the a.m. Yeah, maybe.....

Just picked up the 220SLi from the garage following its MOT success and on the short drive home remembered how much I like it.

Before it goes I'm going to try and sort the rough cold running so I've just ordered it a pile of treats in the form of plugs, rotor arm, dizzy cap and leads plus a new cam cover gasket to keep a little more of the oil inside the engine.  The exhaust's also getting very loud although it wasn't mentioned on the MOT so a trip to the local tyre centre is in order this weekend too.

At least then I can feel like I haven't just been running it into the ground and/or using it as a loan car for the last 6 months.

At least you should see it in daylight to check the paint match

Did I make it to work without breaking down?

Oh no.

Overheating issues drove me mad for a while with mine, but I got there in the end.  I still permanently carry 5L of premix just in case, mind you.

I thought I'd try it out as it's been so quiet the last couple of days. Of course it's the M8 so.

The temp gauge was only creeping up a little so I wasn't too worried given I'd been sitting in static traffic for 15 minutes. Just as I got to the bridge past Glasgow airport (the one with no hard shoulder) it started shooting steam out of the side at a furious rate and the temp started creeping up. Exciting.. A break down here would make you really unpopular so I nursed it to the Paisley turn off then into Hillington industrial estate, where I found a garage who's water machine only dispensed pre-mixed screen wash!  The attendant took pity on my and filled by bottle, which gave me enough water to make it to the next garage who had a proper dispenser.

The last few miles to the office was fine although I was 45 minutes late.

Hopefully the traffic on the way home won't be as bad.

I'm kind of hoping the issue could be, because I didn't take quite as long as maybe should have re-filling and bleeding the system when I changed the manifold.

They do get hot in traffic. I remember nervously sitting in mine watching the gauge going up on several occasions. Interior heater fan needs to be more powerful so you can get rid of some heat that way...
