Yes, on many occasions.

Vauxhalls are still all shit when I'm pissed though.

I'm not sure I'd want to drink the mind-bending brews that you must imbibe.

Is it a Peel or something obscure like that?

I'm leaning mor towards Cowley than Dagenham for the chassis , but on reflection it looks a bit too compact for some sort of Ashley.

Sad comment on Google , when you image search ' Ashley car' uyou get lots of pictures of Ashley Olsen and Ashley Tidsdale getting in an out of G Wagens and the like.

I think its an Austin 7 Based Special, Something really obscure like a Heron?

I did something outrageous today.

I went to look at a car and didnt buy it! Thats a rare occurance for me to be honest.

Things got off to a bad start when I called and had to meet the dude in a petrol station off the motorway. Nice car but clutch biting right at the end of its travel, snapped handbrake cable and a few oil leaks meant that I had to put my sensible hat on and say no.

406 estate, 2.1td as a replacement for my sisters dead Scenic. Shame, as it drove lovely otherwise, but fixing the faults would put it over budget.

"I'm red, 8ft wide, 12ft high, 40ft long and lit up like a Christmas tree and you tried to undertake me when I was turning left - how the fuck did you not see me?!"

Better result is achieved without the wheel trims. Chewed the side out of someone's fiesta once when they tried to bully me to move over. DONT MESS WID DA WHELLNUTZ!

Fleet news;

The bluebird helped friends to move and in the end they liked it so much they bought it! It's place has been taken by a 1987 land rover 90 which has neither chequer plate nor slogans on it. Just moss and lichen.

At DS_20 Acres I discovered this afternoon that the Saab has a mahoosive water ingress problem in the boot.

Joy, joy, and thrice joy.

I got unreasonably excited by this pic. Not because it's a Merc but because there is a Rover 800 in this pic.

The Rover 800 looks to be a late post-1996 facelift 820Si finished in BRG or Woodcote Green, but being a later car it would be badged as an 800. Looks to have Grey fluted cloth interior.

This was a very uninteresting post post brought to you by Lord Sterling.

In more very boring news, I finally got the Merc some more keys, so now it's got 3 keys. I bought 2 blanks off eBay but the keycutter refused to touch them even though they were from the same manufacturer citing "inferior quality metal" that would mess up his machine. Had to get some ordered in, but when I went back a week later the ordered keys hadn't been delivered, so another couple were ordered, arrived today and new keys were cut.

They work well but don't seem to want to open the boot lock. I don't care as long as it works on other locks.

That Vito looks like an utter horror! How can you tell it's a 2.0 LS?

What is point electronic handbrakes? Just rescued the in laws from their stranded VAG shite, the handbrake is stuck on.

Electric handbrakes are the perfect way to f*ck up a perfectly good system with one that is half as good and several times as expensive to fix when it goes wrong.

Electric hand brakes are a joke and I think most manufactures have dropped them again now. I have got a passat in tomorrow for another caliper. The daft thing is that the Renault handbrake is actually more reliable than the VAG shite, it is still rubbish and costs a fortune to put right but lasts slightly longer than the VAG idea.

In actual car news, I've been steadily preparing the 2CV for its upcoming 500-mile roadtrip. I've put some petrol in it and Mrs DW has dug out her earplugs. Turns out taking the 2CV is a wise move. I'm still wiped out after a dose of man-flu, so there's a fair chance we'll be sharing the driving. Never particularly pleasurable because Mrs DW hates me being a passenger and I hate being a passenger. This is a trip to visit family in Sussex, so naturally, I've arranged to visit a Citroen scrapyard on the way...

On another note I have just found that the pair of Fregate Domaine's I looked at last year are still for sale at a very reasonable 1000 euro. All I need is someone who could bring them back from near Caen either 1 at a time or both together. The guy selling them is a bit of a pikey but sound enough. He has got a very interesting yard full of old French tat, but doesn't speak a word of English. I would ideally like them delivered to just off the M5 in Somerset but could collect anywhere in the south if they can get across the channel cheaply. They are a bit too rough to A frame as the best one has no wings or front panel fitted although they are included amongst all the other junk piled in the back.

What is point 12 point sockets, GR12 for chewing rusty bolt heads and nuts. I don't think I'll buy another old car that's spent most of its life in northern Scotland again.

Been told by The Wentworth's new owner that its engine now sounds like a diesel and is probably about to throw a piston - no wonder it used so much oil!

Just as well that I crashed it when I did and sold it as a spares car, then :)

The car will live on in some form, though, as it's not quite as bent as the car it was supposed to provide spares for, so it will probably receive the latter car's engine, gearbox and superior ancillary parts in due course ;)

By Christ, I'd have thought the best place to take that Vito was the nearest metal yard.

Or put it on Gumtree and say 'typical Mercedes reliability/these vans never go wrong/German build quality/ideal camper' as most of them seem to be advertised as.
