There was a big old crash outside work today.  Not sure quite how it happened, but it ended up with a Saxo with half the front end hanging off, and a bus driving into an under-construction block of student flats.  Brought the whole of the city centre to a complete standstill (couldn't have been better timed - just at the start of Friday evening rush hour), especially when the coppers closed the road off completely (part of the inner ring road so quite a major route).  Don't think anyone was seriously hurt though (despite four ambulances and two fire engines turning up), and it provided a distraction from work on a somewhat dreary Friday afternoon.

Something big happened on the m40 by oxford/bicester. 2 hour delays each way apparently the.

Hope it doesn't bugger up any kollektiuns this weekend! Can assist with alternate routes if it helps...

Aye. One fatality apparently. Nasty. Looks very foggy there.

I ordered a timing belt kit and water pump for the XM. The water pump turned up looking like this. ARSE.

Sad times, Moogster, but you got practically as much use as it was humanly possible to get out of it.

On a related note, you have two seats awaiting collection :-)  Shame I didn't get a chance to whip fuel pump for Castro

In other news Civics exhaust has rusted through right at the join between middle and rear section. From experience I have always found exhaust a right royal pain in the arse so have preferred to pay someone to do it for me. Thing is that it will be £200 ish.

Plus I now need to try and find the fault with the heated rear window and blower. I think the power is missing somewhere that feeds them both, which means stripping out the centre console which I hate.

When I picked up the Celica the other day, the boot had been opened by Volksy and I just chucked my stuff in the back closed it and headed home.

When I got home I went to open the boot and the lock turned 90 degrees and then wouldn't budge AT ALL. I did not want to break the key so have left it a few days and this morning decided to see about opening it.

Thankfully you can get access into the boot through the rear seats otherwise I would have been totally boned from the start:

A quick look online suggested that the lock opening should be vertical NOT horizontal like this:

It seems that the lock has moved inside its housing and got totally jammed in place. You can see from the photo above I had already tried moving the whole thing with a screwdriver but it was clear from the slight pressure I gave it that forcing it was going to cause too much damage. It was well and truly stuck.

So I removed the lock from the car thinking I was going to have to replace it but thought I may as well try taking it to bit to see if I could free it up.

I completely removed the lock from the barrel and refitted it at the correct angle and it worked fine. I then tried moving it back to its RONG horizontal position and it wouldn't go there so fook knows how I managed it. Anyhow, I put the lock back together and fitted it back on the car.

Sadly the lock cover has a kind of mottled look to it now where I had to force it off. There are two indents holding it on but even with these pushed out the thing was well and truly stuck on with 20yrs of dirt and I really had to force it off, even the penetrating fluid would not get itself in. It took about 20 mins to wriggle the fucking thing off.

The swap with the Shaguar is only likely to be temporary so I hope Volksy doesn't mind the slight damage........*

Went to play with some Mitsubishi Delicas today as my mate has added another to his fleet. This one had been sitting for four years. We loaded up with kit (including a large workshop compressor) and headed off to see if we could entice it into moving.

Blew up the tyres in no time, removed the double-batteries, chucked a spare one on, gave it a try and bloody hell! It just started up and ran! Sounded absolutely beautiful. For a 2.8-litre turbo diesel anyway. When put in drive, it even fancied moving. Incredible. Further tests proved that the brakes were working too. Most boring collection thread ever.

My mate definitely didn't then drive it home, but I may have followed in his Delica. It's been a while since I drove this one (a couple of years I think) but everyone should try one. Because the floor is so high, it's like sitting in a normal car that's just a long way up. Column-change slushmatic, with overdrive (operated by a bottle cork in this case). It's very slushy. They handle far better than they have any right to, though this one was pretty tired, so it crashed over bumps in a fairly undignified manner. Good fun though. I've been overdue some shite old car antics.

FCUK... G. Bennet & AR$EBISKITTS.....  :?

My drivers door window winder (keepfit) is going 'Dudd. Dudd. Dudd.' every 3/4 of a turn and not pulling the window up smoothly.

Bo11okks....

Doorcard off, glass out, bolts out & Mech out....

This is identical [Micra 93-02]

..... this small, driver cog must be butter soft & now jumping the big arc cog.

Cog_Set_MicraType1.jpg

I propose to get a scrappy Micra set and drill out the peen/rivetting and lash up the Proton/Micra cog/drive set.... keeping the Micra handle as I bet it isn't the same splines..

2CV wasn't anywhere near this scene! No battery boost required. However, I can tell you're disappointed, so here's a pic of the 2CV jump starting the stripey BX, with the CX watching with interest (it was too wide to squeeze past the BX).

Had an odd smell in the car this morning when stopped at the lights. Roasting coffee beans!?

Thought it was outside, but next set of lights the same smell. Well it's an improvement on the burning oil smell I'm ignoring anyway.

Back home I thought I'd better look under the bonnet and found three burnt acorns on the rear manifold bank! I assume a squirrel was storing things away? The car has stood since Tuesday as I've used the bike the rest of the week.

Got the oil change done on the Scooby this evening.  Was pretty straightforward really - nothing was seized or overly tight, and the car has enough ground clearance that I didn't need to put it up on ramps to get my tray thingy underneath.  I did use a bottle of engine flush in the end - it was rather disconcerting pouring something that looked like water into the oil filler, but it doesn't seem to have done any harm.  No proof that it's done any good either, mind - the oil is now the cleanest I've ever had, but that might be largely due to the fact that the car was sat level rather than with the front up on ramps, so the sump was able to empty fully.  I used 10w40 oil in the end - slightly thicker than recommended, but then the engine's done 100K miles so the tolerances are probably slightly looser than when it was new.  Interestingly the sump plug didn't have a washer on it, but the (genyouwine Subaru) oil filter I'd bought came with one, so I used it.

I also did a "mutual jump start" on the Rover and the Toyota.  Both had batteries that were too flat to start their engines, and they were parked nose in to the fence and blocked in by another car.  I didn't fancy attempting to push either of them out in the small space available, but it occurred to me that, although the Rover's battery didn't have enough oomph to fire up an L-series, it might still have enough go to turn the Toyota's 1.8 pez engine over.  And so it proved.  Jump leads connected up, turn the Toyota key, the engine turns slowly but soon fires.  As soon as it's running and the alternator's putting out 14v or whatever, back to the Rover and that too was away first flick of the key.  I was quite pleased with myself.

Also my Dacia brochures arrived in the post this morning.  I'd ordered one for the Sandero and one for the Logan estate thingy; what actually turned up were brochures for the Logan and Duster.  Not a great first impression then...  The Logan does look like a useful bit of kit though - I stopped off at the Renault dealer on the way home from work to have a quick look and it does appear to have quite an impressive boot.  Prices start at a grand more than the basic Sandero, but it does get body colour bumpers.  Still keep fit windows though, and still in any colour you like as long as it's white.

Also had battery bother today. The Rover 220 failed to start and after a lot of cursing about parasitic drains I realised like a dick I had not closed the boot properly last weekend, the boot courtesy lamp having then discharged the battery.

Last week under domestic managment orders I was 'encouraged' to move the Bluebird on double quick as our driveway was full. I sold it to a local chap who it now turns out, wanted to take it banger racing. In fact hes found something 'better' so was going to weigh it in. I had to act pretty fast so agreed to have it back, ive managed to make arrangements to store it at work so it also means its not in the way at home and hence I can probably keep hold of it this time around. Its the first time ive ever technically owned a car twice!

I've wanted to stab the door designer with a screwdriver while trying to fix a window regulator every time. True story.

I had a internal affair today, chucked a load of bleach down the bog today as you do, then put bog brush in to whip some freshness into to it, stuffed it upright in said bog. 4 hours later went for a shite. sat down and was instantly reminded of operation Yew Tree.

Ohhh you fucking arse toady mother bum burglar, Bog brush handle had took my bum virginity.

The tears flowed freely as I pulled out the Saville brush of abusement. :?

I am now sitting on a big cushion. Calling Esther Rantzen as I type...First time and went in dry... Oh the shame   :blink2::o:help::dazed034:

It hurt more when I suddenly stood up after realising an alien object had just 'done me' only to find bog brush bending up me trapdoor. as the brush got lodged under the bog seat. First time ever I actually hit the Heights of a Bee Gee tone, almost cracked glass with scream of high pitchness

My ex used to be staff nurse on A and E they used to get a regular trickle of men who'd sat on something while naked. Not that the nurses doubted them or found it amusing of course.
