Have a good trip Rob!

I've spent an unpleasant morning changing the driver's door lock on the Hiace, I discovered a while back that it could be unlocked with any of the 3 different keys it came with, or indeed the keys for a 1993 Mk3 Astra, a 2008 Hyundai i10 or a 2004 Rover 45.  A bit worn, then.

It's done now but my word access is terrible and it was a long session involving sharp edges, tiny plastic clips and screws dropped into the bottom of the door.  I have a full set from eBay and need to do the others, the side door, passenger door and ignition (which is broken anyway) are all different so I have about 7 keys for it.  At least it's a tad more secure now, I'm not looking forward to doing the others though as they all look just as horrible to access.

I've removed the steering lock assembly completely so I can take it to a locksmith to have the broken lock extracted.  Hopefully, I can then put my new one in and bolt it back on, I'm getting fed up with starting it using a screwdriver!  Combined with the dodgy door lock and key taped to the immobiliser receiver, it's almost a surprise it's still here.

That's a bugger. How/why?

I made the mistake of parking it under a massive tree. It was a windy day, and a fairly large branch fell straight onto the rear screen. The toughened glass stood no chance.

There's two local scrapyards. I visited the first one this morning, only to be told they had recently cubed the only NG900 they had in stock. Splendid*.

The other yard isn't open during weekends, so I'll have to wait until Monday to ring them. I'm not too optimistic, though.

I've had  mildly disappointing couple of days, on Friday morning I was told a local guy  I slightly know was selling his 1993 Camaro 5.7 manual with flaky lacquer for £1900. By the time I managed to get in touch it was gone.

I've developed a non-AS interest in Porsches and went to an indy 50 odd miles away to ask which, why etc. Website says 9-2 Saturdays so naturally it was closed when we got there at 1.10. .

A friend had also asked me to check out a Merc ML at a dealer across Tyneside while we were there and continuing the trend it had just been sold when we got there.

I had met my son and his 2 year old daughter up there and when we decided  to retreat to the nearby pub before going our separate ways the beer garden we picked had been taken over by sweaty hairy fat men (and one woman) dressed in leather and lycra.  Yes, they were having a wresting tournament in the beer garden, a totally random end to an wasted trip!

That's a right bugger then.

2CV was roof back for 11 hours today. Most of those were sitting in the car park at the Bristol Classic Car Show, but we then went to Wells just because it is nice. Glorious.

Back to the show tomorrow, and it's set to be even hotter. Fairly cool in our shed thankfully...

Got an oil cooler pipe remade at pirtek today as it was leaking & while it was off I did the 112k service on my bike 100miles early.

Did a shite mission today. Bonnet for 206 from Kidderminster scrappy, who reliably informed me that oll modernz is shit, to Dizzlenutjob in Royslip, Ryeslip, Rooyslop or summat. Then a couple of inner wingy thingies for a mk3 spanish curtain, (Cortina) in Woolpit somewhere in Sufferoak. No sign of wool or a pit. Slight disappointment over that but misnomers are everywhere. Ragged the, nearly 30 year old, van (birthday bash December) at 90 95 along with those modern blobby Aldis etc which is probably considered childish, or worse, but I love it. A/C on, (windows down) tunes up to 11.5. If I had tits I would have laughed them off but I didn't coz I'm a skinny bugger and I'm not lashing out on moob implants. I'd look a right tit, especially if I only got a right one.

I am Looking for a Visa GT

Gogently's brother says there is a red one laid up complete on a farm on Bodmin Moor!

Has anybody seen a Visa on Bodmin Moor?

Had a nice day out at the Kings Lynn auction.  Bargain of the day was a G-plate Metro 1.3L - paintwork a bit scabby but one owner and 29K on the clock, made £125.  Even with commission that's only £245 - the engine would sell for more than that to a Mini molester.  Other highlights included a disabled-converted Rancho and no fewer than three Austin 16s.

Got home and there was a knock on my door - a local lad who'd seen my Mazda 121 about, then spotted it for sale on Gumtree so came to have a look.  He turned up in an immaculate G reg 323 saloon.  He took the 121 for a test drive, we agreed a price and he left a deposit - he should be picking it up on Tuesday.  We had a chat about cars, as you do, and it turns out he knows Trigger (although that's hardly surprising as most of East Anglia seems to know Trigger).

Trigger is somewhat hard to forget it is true.

Decided I fancy a Xantia. A nice early one in TD flavour perhaps, although an NA diesel isn't the end of the world. Don't get me wrong, the ZX is a fine banger but I've got many long journeys coming, so I fancy a bit more class.

I'd rather the odd LHM drip than the crashy rear beam the ZX has.

Someone local is selling a nice high miler 1.8 LX but I don't think the XU petrol engines are that economical.....

Mr.Fraud Sr. has a Xantia 1.8. Even with his "senior citizen" driving style, the thing never returns more than 32mpg.

I am slowly updating the Rover 75 which now boasts rear seat belts. It only remains to install Procon 10 - airbags are out as they mess up the horn-ring.

He is on the "shite cars for sale" group on FB - and he's well chuffed with himself for bagging this little beauty!

This rather satisfying sight greeted me on Flickr.

Two different photographers in two different streams, perfectly aligned.

(I want the one on the right)

My old 1.4 pez zx wasn't too bad tbh. More economical on the back roads than sat on a run on the motorway, but not too bad, I didn't notice much of a difference between it and my 1.9td

How is the 405 going out of interest? I miss those comfy seats....

It and the LS00 are having a bit of R&R at Andy's Garage, new clutch and exhaust manifold gasket in the 405's case.

LS400 started making some horrible noises when braking on the way to work on Friday, so I didn't brake for the final 12 miles of the commute, or back out to Stanley.

Takes some reading ahead in rush hour..

What are the rear shocks like? A new(-ish) pair can transform the ride.

Agreed, but not if the trailing arm bearings are borked (which is a common 1990s PSA problem).

It's a £60 ZX that's got a broken drivers door lock, boot lock, plastic rear quarter window and fist sized rust holes in both inner front wings. I wouldn't be surprised if the rear arm was completely shot too given the noises it makes...

Still reasonably fun to drive. And it's one of the earliest Turbo D ones left. I guess there's probably a maniac out there whod restore it, but that person isn't me.

Aye, granted, but it sounds like it won't be your last ZX and the rear dampers on these are a doddle to take off again and fit to the next one...!

I now have two belt driven vehicles. One borked its exhaust on the way to my mates place in Essex yesterday.

It was successfully bodged..
