My mother just got an invoice from her cars dealer (Lloyds Carlisle) for a load of work. One of the items was spray paint at £16+VAT. I suspect this is the parking sensor that they replaced in which case, sixteen flippin' quid to paint a tiny plastic circle?

Life is about to get easier - incoming engine hoist and balancing beam. Should speed up the Twingo engine replacement :)

(and yes, if you're local I'll be happy to let it be used for, er, hoisting engines).

I wonder if that Metro was the same as this one:

Seems possible, that's a New York registration.

Thanks to the rusty pink mini thread I have now bought a private plate to put on the other halfs 15 year old Lexus.

Coz we is considerably more posh than our neighbours obviously

Now considering renaming the kids Tarquin and something equally silly  ;)

fleet update -

mini still been an ungrateful little sod by been slightly broken. it is a snapped throttle cable, the leak from heater still to be identified. BUT all replacement new parts boughted, the seats are out and carpets up to dry off, now for a nice day to get the jobs done.

rover 75 now has new tyres on the back, old balding and still just about legal ones binned.

metro, IT LIVES!! IT RUNS!! IT DRIVES!! had the distributor off and in bits. points cleaned and gapped, gap was almost as wide as the grand canyon plus there was a coating of surface rust under the rotor arm. cleaned off and re-assembled. car started up on the first turn of the key.....

the little tinker!!

update of the update....

we got about 12 miles before the metro coughed, spluttered and stopped.

seems that the spark has either leaked out, or it just escaped.

suspects are the condenser or the coil. as these are available in our box of spares, so we are going to swap these bits out, and see if that makes any difference.

if not,

then i don't flippin' know.......

Modern points/ condenser/ rotor are utter junk. On a Metro, I'd only fit the Distributor Doctor stuff (usually red plastic for the rotor, yellow wire on the condenser)- it's all available from Minispares for a good price.

Bought some new wiper arms for my Favorit, not thinking, and they are for a LHD model. Only solution I can think of is to buy a LHD Favorit.

Brooklands.

Failed to meet mr meshking and I forgot the phone so couldn't ring!

Oh well. Left in the lull of the hill climbing and sneaked out the back way.

Lots of lovely things as well as modern flash stuff driven by people with no taste.

.... exited house to jump in car. Person of oriental shade is standing at the corner of our terrace, looking.. errm.. shall we say 'focussed' on the near horizon/agitated about being made to wait.

I'm in the car now, watching him in the door mirror, and - boom - a DarkBloo A4/tints and even more oriental/bearded guy pulls up [back to front baseball hat* winning!]

'My' guy heaves in through the open window & retreats back across the pavement and - boof - into the flat.

A4 is gone*.......

A: Was this his brother bringing him the spare front door key, as he was desperate for the dunny...

B: I should keep my eyes down... ?

*no photo of Audi, for lazy spotters thread/police5 sozz :(

Since the last time I went the stratospheric test hanger is open. This was brilliant- I walked in just after I arrived and no one else was around so had a personal guided tour by the friendly guide.

The Wellington hanger has now gone from the start/finish straight and the Loch Ness Wellington is now here.

First time I've been in the London bus museum too. More information than I could take in, but for the bus enthusiasts this was my favourite...

It's changed a lot in the last few years. I was impressed with the stratosphere test chamber and frank whittle time line. I'm a sucker for a sectioned engine with moving parts too!
