1.2 16v?

If so be very careful with the HT leads. They're fragile and bonded onto the coil pack. Breaking them will require a new coil pack combo.

Went out to Tesco in the Rover earlier. Glad the mother decided to drive back as it revealed that the back of the car had gone all Ozzy Osburne on me, with only one working brake light and one working tail light. All sorted now - big relief as I have some pretty long drives planned.

Do you trust the temp sender? Any chance of checking the temp with a infragun or similar.

Part of the problem with older cars is that you can suddenly notice things that have always existed, especially when paranoid about something. At least half the time they are unconnected.

Where in London? Could a shiter have a poke for you?

I think it was a false alarm. The injector's definitely blowing though which after a long motorway journey is causing the engine to run hotter. I'm back home now.

After 145 miles we get this,

Not at all bad for a tooleater kiddy killing dizzler.

Friday's day off collection should involve last night's collection only with treble the mileage,

Might be sore arse/back/legs delete as required.

Today's mission is to drive to the NEC in the 2CV. Anyone planning to visit the restoration show? I'm there Friday and Sunday on the 2CVGB stand. 2CV is there all weekend.

My Savvy had same motor.... I found a 14MM thinwall box spanner (from my Estelle toolroll!) + length of steel tube = perfect & free ;)

Hmm.

Hmmmmmmmm... Do you think it would work with LHM? I'm planning to take the the Hydraurincage out of the Xantia and put some proper LHM back in, as well as an oil change too.

Does LHM lubricate?

Pump is not recommended for use with non-lubrcating fluids like water. It's ok for oil and diesel.

I have bought one this week and intend to try it out on a Puma oil change this weekend.

Looking at a Saab 9-3 areo for the Mrs 2004 flavour? There cheap but are they any good? Hmm

No idea.

I can get by without it, I reckon. I actually changed the LHM before by using a huge turkey baster.

LHM is oil, its therefore defo got lubricating properties and would be fine in one of these pumps

My brother had one. Interior was a bit flaky compared to earlier Saab's but it had a lovely punchy motor and was a comfortable way to travel.

Verdict, do it.

About to head off an a 300 mile drive in a Volvo that lit the check engine light last night for DPF woes. Please cross your fingers, toes and touch much wood on my behalf! Volvo service rep said keep the revs at 4k for a bit...

That style Saab made me from a Saab hater to a Saab fan. Ok probably not as good overall to an equivalent age BMW (rust less though) or Audi, but a lot cheaper to buy and run though.

Aero is only trim level on this style 9-3 btw.

SF you need to get that injector done asap cos it will weld itself in.

One of the dad's at school today showing me his new car. It's a 60 plate 1.9 cdti zafira ,96,000 miles. He is made up cos the salesman sorted him a good deal. £135.00 a month over five years. The car was £5,000. Where are these people when decent members of this collective are trying to sell good motors. Oh and he got a one month warranty ,but the salesman told him he would nevery need a warranty cos it's reliable ,being a diesel and all. I actually like the zafira. Does what it says on the tin.

Oh dear god over £8k in repayments and they wouldn't put a decent warranty on it??? Still selling that finance package will have been a nice little earner, shame I can't remember the base rates anymore to calculate it...

About 24% Apr. I didn't have the heart to tell him that cambelt etc is recommended at 50,000 miles. So it will be due soon.

It's a long time since you could run diesels into the ground over several years with minimal servicing.

watch out for seized blower motors, water runs perfectly straght through housing on to bearings

Got back earlier today after having a short holiday over in the Brecon Beacons with the wife and a mate + his girlfriend. Took the Laguna across (actually my mates request). Got it up to 29mpg on the way over on the motorway but dropped down by the time we started doing back roads. Final tally by the time we got back was just under 25mpg. Not too shabby for an auto v6 really.

Car performed faultlessly, as expected.

As we started driving down from the Sugar Loaf mountain I saw the mile counter tick to this:

At lunchtime, I hand cranked the 2CV into life and acknowledged that I still really need to buy a battery for it.

However, it then drove me all the way to Birmingham nae bother, so who's to complain? Was a generally lovely drive, bar Brum City Centre. I should have ignored my sat navigation as local knowledge was already telling me it was a bad idea.

We reached the halls, then had to wait to get in for over an hour, for no obvious reason. Eventually, we got in

Wow!

I think I'm going to like this show. Also spoke to the owner of a really nice Renault 5 - and early floor changer just like my old dash change one.

Not a good couple of weeks for cars.  After the Puma's PAS leak last week I had a frustrating FTP in the Hiace today - I stopped off at Asda on my way home earlier today and when I got back in, the ignition lock had jammed.  After 10 minutes of fiddling around I could just about get the steering lock off but it wouldn't turn any further.  Luckily, I was only a short walk from my house so went back, got some tools and took some bits of dashboard off before disconnecting the ignition barrel, enabling me to start it with a screwdriver.

post-5492-0-60969000-1490912337_thumb.jpg

As I had a day off, I was planning to pull out the seats and fit the spiffy new carpet this afternoon too, that flooring is nasty, guess the van had other ideas.  Also, behold my checkstrap mod - the previous owner was a roofer and that's a very substantial roofing nail replacing a pin.  I'll get a new one at some point when funds allow, the strap doesn't really do a lot anyway.

I took it home, fortunately only a 2 minute drive away, I had to hold the ignition key to stop it springing back and engaging the steering lock, hardly ideal.  A further half hour spent with various tools and levels of violence and gentle persuasion didn't produce any results either, I tried spraying WD40 in it but all that happened was a lot of grey muck came out of it so I guess it just got too worn - probably a pin dropped out but anyway, it's knackered.  It won't turn enough to allow the security pin to be pushed in so the lock is stuck in there for now.  Fortunately, the side door and passenger door are both on seperate keys anyway so at some point I'll get hold of a full matching set of locks and keys off a newer scrap Hiace and change the lot.

I hobbled it over to my tame local mechanic who fortunately is only a very short drive from me and left it with him to puzzle over, he phoned earlier and as expected he's had to resort to cutting the steering lock off.  I'll go pick it up tomorrow morning, apparently one of the old keys it came with is now taped to the steering column to keep the immobiliser happy so at least it can be used, I'll just have to hope that the low crime rate around here stays low!
