Nope. This is what he let me know about. ARSE.

Pass and advise on the understanding I got it replaced ASAP, so I did. Original, 17-year old spare now on. They said an exhaust is DEFINITELY needed too. It's almost as if they don't reckon my aluminium tape bodge will last...

Still, a nice day for it! Mrs DW is happy anyway.

I just looked at the area on google maps, and the price of renting a room there on gumtree.

Very nice looking area. Very green and leafy and lots of old buildings and old cars. The room prices are about the same as you'd expect in Aberdeen (or a tiny bit cheaper, actually).

My uncle used to live in Musselburgh, that whole area is pretty good I reckon, close to the city but close to the borders for riding at Glentress etc.   Good luck.

It does not indeed. There is a way of making it accept spurious drivers. It involves changing a setting, then restarting the computer in a safe mode / recovery mode type thing, then selecting the correct option. Booting in this mode allows installation of said spurious drivers, then you can use those drivers normally after that.

It's a PITA to do though.

I'm supposed to be sorting the garden (see other thread)

Instead I'm watching Banzai on Youtube.

Welcome to 2002 people

Thank me later. When the garden is *done* (whatever)

Took the datsun to work this morning, tonight I'll be partaking in a game of fuel gauge roulette as it's reading empty and I'll be stuck in a bit of traffic coming out of the dockyard...

Seeing as the government is going to f*ck up the self-employed, I thought I'd enjoy one of the benefits. Giving myself some time off to enjoy a rare spell of dry weather!

Of course, Audi tossers did their best to ruin my fun. One overtook me in a 30mph zone (at double the limit I reckon), while another decided to overtake me as I was overtaking a cyclist. He didn't look very pleased when I caught him up at some roadworks and started applauding him. Ironically.

Must be the day for MoTing small shite. My Metro passed today, so I'm all set for attending Austin Morris day at Brooklands this Sunday.

My pug 205 auto has been running nicely and today was the first time this year that I have had the sunroof open.  Its MOT is due next week and, true to form, today the exhaust back box became very throaty - it's split along the seam.  When the car was on my ramps while I looked for where the row was coming from I noticed that the temperature gauge was nearly in the red.  Normally, the fan cuts in at just over half scale i.e. nowhere near the red. Further investigation did not find any blown fuses, dirty connectors or broken wires, so it could be a dead thermostat relay, dead temperature setting switch or a dead fan motor.  I'll poke 12V up the fan motor tomorrow to see if it works, then if it does, probably just bypass the wiring and go for a manual fan switch.  New backbox ordered for tomorrow - the rest of the exhaust is very solid.  I'll warn the MOT people not to keep the engine running for too long.  I know that electric fans are quite reliable, save fuel and are just about the only practical option for a tranverse engine, but I've never had a mechanical, engine driven fan fail and it makes me appreciate my Stellar's archaic simplicity even more than usual.

When I had a Midget 1500 every 18months (like clockwork) it'd throw most of the blades away on the engine fan. Considering they are a one piece plastic thing I'd have liked to find out why but never did.

BMW passed it's MOT. Brake pads and discs about to be changed tomorrow. Saw the Ma's Micra on Monday when I was in the Isle of Wight. Still a good little soldier that car.

Mrs Hertz's Megane is in Doc again. Coil packs gone this time, should be an easy cheap ish fix.

So far it's had a new wheel, battery and front springs. To be fair run of the mill components that fail over time. On the plus side it's now got 12 months ticket just needing a bulb.

She's got the hump with it though and wants a Beetle. Shame as it's getting to that time of the year you can enjoy having the top down.

Have wimped out and booked the e46 into the local garage to get the rear wheel bearing done. It looks like an arse of a job and I really don't have the time or the inclination to tackle it as everything on that car has been seized solid.

Which is what I did.

With the help of my mate Hubert, we have been and exhumed the MX5. Even under a cover and in the garage it has become filthy and it has mould inside! Yuk! However, put the battery back on, turned the key and instantly purred into life. Good car is the old lass. Roof off  to aid vision and it was recovered from its spot right in the corner and, after a quick phone call, delivered to the Mazda main dealer (ex actually but still service) 3 days early. It was great to drive it again: I had forgotten what an absolute riot it is to drive :)

So, it is getting a service, cambelt, gearbox oil change and an MOT which I think it will pass as everything still works and it seems good. I also asked them to give it a bit of a spruce up... I bet I regret that request!

Gave up on the idea of cleaning the manifold myself, took it round to a local garage and they've done it far better than I could have for a tenner to cover the cost of a big tin of cleaner.

Got home early in daylight and decided to get the 2CV running - not sure I have since January. Anyway battery still ok, but as ever the fuel bowl is dry ( nothing in th the in-line filter either despite the non-return valve). Once fuel was pumped through it started though. Checked all lights were ok etc and so it's good to go tomorrow morning if it's as dry as forecast.
