Got stuck inside this afternoon while she went out and left the oven on - can't go outside for car work with that left burning so had to wait until she was back.

 

Then dinner... then fell asleep on the sofa. Woke up at 9:45pm and realised it was too late to get anything done to the car. Shit.

 

In other news the cat is still ginger & white and the desk is still overflowing with clutter. Life goes on it seems.

Yesterday was BMW delivery day to Anglia Car Auctions.

 

I'd decided to sell this way as a little experiment, and also not really knowing where prices are at the moment.

 

So as it's 300 miles from me, I investigated getting it Shiply'd but the cheapest quote was £190 from someone with no feedback and all the way up to the thick end of £400.

 

Clearly it was time to man up, tax it and set forth.

 

I did contemplate doing a delivery thread, but somehow it's just not the same. In fact the worst bit was getting caught at some temporary traffic lights between my house and the M5, the first 15 miles took 45 minutes.

Once on the open road it was easy (save for the numerous long stretches of 50 mph average speed roadwork sections on the M5).

 

Anyway here is a rather uninspiring shot of it in the yard at ACA.

All in all, road tax (for the month) + fuel etc.  came out at £75

Anyway, Nippa was very noisily driven to the garage today. Within half an hour, it was on the ramp and the exhaust sleeved and welded up. System doesn't look great rearward of the repair, so I suspect we'll be replacing that before the end of the year.

Who supplied that please? The corner on the rad of my 960 did exactly the same thing and I'm looking at new parts before Steel Sealing it up to get to the specialist for an HG replacement - provided the coolant hasn't filled the gearbox.

Very enjoyable morning with a gf chasing me up to the A14, silver Pooma vs. silver Ka. Have decided that we need to go on a karting day. She was surprised by the pace the Pooma set; I reckon a modernish Ka is probably a good bit heavier.

 

Vodafone stuff almost entirely done - they've fixed my account, but not unlocked my old phone yet, but O2 haven't exactly acquitted themselves well - still waiting for refunds after they couldn't supply the iPhone ordered and then ballsed up re-ordering, and ended up going to CPW (on O2) who did a cheaper contract, discounted the handset, included a £50 Currys voucher and most importantly, had the new, colour I wanted, spec I wanted phone AND contract here less than 24 hours after ordering, with the number ported. Now to ignore phones for the next two years, as long as I don't drop or mangle it anyway.

Bloody DVLA & DVSA, for some reason the MOT for my old Focus has been added to the history of my new Focus, no doubt because of the private number plate that i had, I've rang the DVLA to get it removed who said i need to contact the DVSA but they don't have a option on the phone to be put through to anyone who deals with stuff like this so I've had to email them.

 

The trouble is that it makes my car look like it's been clocked.

After buying the Vivaro for our move abroad the aircon decided it didn't want to give out any cool air..

Took it the local Halfords to get it de-odourised and re-gassed, only to be told the temp sensor on the rad had died. A common fault apparently

Sourced a good used part, fitting took 2 mins and cold air has been resumed

The wifes D5 V70 decided to start a grumble noise,combined with a vibration from the drivers side cv joint literally the day after we decided to sell it

Got underneath to see the cv boot had come off the hexagonal shaped (!) inner cv joint and was looking a little bit dry

Inner cv's don't seem to be available so I ended up ordering a full shaft for a reasonable £60 deliverd the next day

Fitting took around 90mins all in, mainly thanks to all the bolts undoing nice and easily. No pics as the old cv grease was spread liberally around the area....

Nice productive day whilst we still wait on solicitors......

I have, somewhat spitefully, removed the locking wheel bolts off the astra I'm selling, and fitted them to the omega, and given the astra normal ones. It's not likely to sway any buying decision, or the price.

Moved the A35 today on the bad side the brake pedal went straight to the floor with no disearnable resistance which is worrying as it didn't do that last week but on the plus side the handbrake now seems to be working perfectly. ... still struggling to find a welder to fix the rust so if any welders out there want a holiday in Dorset with pay get in touch. ....

I have the new ignition lock from Mercedes. Replacement is actually very simple- align the chanels on the side by turning the key to position one. Insert tool* down two channels and pull out the whole barrel using the key.

 

 

The special tool in my online reference is a wire coat hanger with the ends cut at 45 degrees. I borrowed a hanger from my colleague and cut it only to find it's too large a diameter and doesn't fit.

 

Any of you ingenious people have any other Ideas?

Heavy duty paper clips, fencing wire, small allen keys, drill bits etc. From memory mine only had 1 hole, when you released the latch you had to unscrew the outer lock cap to release the barrel. Did you get yours from Mercedes?

Ford fitted the duratec to the ka from 2002 AFAIK.

 

It'll be a horrible rusty heap anyway and I've nowhere to put it (though there might be a plan on the long finger)

Having drained the radiator it was discovered the gear oil was like treacle, the colour of Guinness and somewhat stinky. Ordered a radiator via my local ex-Dingbro rep which duly arrived for an altogether reasonable £96 inc. vat. Unusually for Dingbro it was absolutely spot on too.

 

I detailed the Volvo dealer shenanigans yesterday; finally got the clips to hold the transmission cooler pipes onto the radiator last night at 5.30pm so built most of it up yesterday only to find the Nissens radiator came with two of the clips Volvo fucked me about over.

 

I held off on doing the gear oil change until today due to insufficient fluid... Dingbro sent some sort of ancient Comma ATF up marked as being "suitable for Borg Warner transmissions" at £67 or so but it wasnt Dexron 3 rated so back it went. 25L of Comma's finest Dexron 3 arrived (£106.51 inc. vat) and the fluid change commenced.

 

Nice and red... this was the end of the flush.

 

 

... and this was the colour of most of the rest of it.

 

Flush done, fluid added, all lovely. Left it sitting, checked the cold fluid level and in true "snatching defeat from the jaws of victory" fashion I snapped the plastic sodding gearbox dipstick - thankfully not in the 'box. It's got about 5l in it by my reckoning, I've been a run in it and so far there is no slipping, the 'box is silky smooth and fingers crossed I'll be able to get a dipstick over the weekend.

48psi? The S-MX with two worn track rod ends can feel a bit 'lively' at times.

 

Or maybe the PAS isn't being consistent? Mind you, I've only had that on BXs with iffy pumps/clogged filters.

I got 2 from Ebay, one that fits all w126 {it didn't) for £10 and one for £15 that fits my car. It meant I now have different keys for door and ignition though, - I couldn't justify the neck end of £100 for my old car to retain one key fits all, it ain't no Palm Beach winner anyway. At least your lock should fit unlike my 1st one.

I've put this here a it's pickled my head a bit, the guy who won them is made up and thinks i should be too, but to be honest i'm kinda pissed off that even basic parts are now basically unaffordable.
