mercrocker Posted December 14, 2017 Posted December 14, 2017 I grease mine every month. Doesn't stop the rest of the car falling apart, though. Squire_Dawson, D Spares & Tyres and stonedagain 3
AlabamaShrimp Posted December 15, 2017 Posted December 15, 2017 Somehow this is another thread I've managed to miss. Excellent work on all the cutting and sticking, wish I was even a quarter as good. I know sod all about cars if this age and still have no idea what a trunnion is. D Spares & Tyres 1
Eddie Honda Posted December 15, 2017 Posted December 15, 2017 I know sod all about cars if this age and still have no idea what a trunnion is. it's a shit ball joint. AlabamaShrimp, Sigmund Fraud, D Spares & Tyres and 2 others 5

D Spares & Tyres Posted March 13, 2018 Author Posted March 13, 2018 Beautiful day today! Mojo slowly returning! Forgot to take a before photo but I put a couple of plates on the Wolseley today, first ones of the year. hard to get a pretty weld on thin steel but it will be ground down and filled so who cares! Had time to do one more plate. A simpler shape than the last one That'll do for today. I'll have to get the wing off to tackle the rest... adw1977, alf892, Junkman and 18 others 22
Skizzer Posted March 13, 2018 Posted March 13, 2018 I’d forgotten about this - another great thread D Spares & Tyres 1
Scruffy Bodger Posted March 13, 2018 Posted March 13, 2018 I snapped a ball join on a Niva once and I have no desire to repeat that so the trunnions will be respected! That certainly sounds like a plan! Good progress on the Holesley, that's a lot of work! tooSavvy and D Spares & Tyres 2
danthecapriman Posted March 14, 2018 Posted March 14, 2018 Good to see more progress, keep it up! D Spares & Tyres 1
D Spares & Tyres Posted March 21, 2018 Author Posted March 21, 2018 Right, today I finally bit the bullet and got the left hand wing offBit holy under there Now this isn't a Granada coupe restoration so originality is not an issue. Also my banger racing experience came in handy so the missing box section that should be made of thin tin is now thick box section straight from the stockholdersBut there is always more to doFound this half done plate that had been put on many years ago Sigmund Fraud, Paul Dupart, catsinthewelder and 17 others 20
skoda_fan Posted March 21, 2018 Posted March 21, 2018 Absolutely brilliant work. You have my fullest admiration. Just wonderful to see it being brought back to life. I've been in love with these ever since that yellow one (which lived just up the road from me when I were a nipper) was on the custom show circuit. It was featured in Hot Car in April 73 and March 76, and Street Machine in March 84. Last time I saw it in the metal many years ago it was red with a big block V8. I always thought it was the bee's knees and have lusted after them ever since. D Spares & Tyres and The Reverend Bluejeans 2
mercrocker Posted March 21, 2018 Posted March 21, 2018 Nice job! Somebody is going to be very pleased you did that one day.... skoda_fan, Squire_Dawson and D Spares & Tyres 3

Did you grow up in Oldham, pretty sure that is where he is from I grew up near Tunbridge Wells, Kent. The reg of the one I knew was 620 LPH, though the last time I saw it way back it was re-registered as OSL 109. DVLA reveals its tax last expired in 2002, so I suspect the worst. I remember as a nipper being overtaken by it as I was pushbiking over to the stock car racing at Cross-in-Hand (anyone remember that?). Interestingly, the current Practical Classics features a Scimitar in the Your Cars section, whose owner lives in Knighton and says he owns a Wolseley 1500 with a 5.8 litre Chevy V8. Wish they'd published a pic of that....hmm..the plot thickens...

Dan_ZTT Posted March 22, 2018 Posted March 22, 2018 Just come across this thread for the first time, impressive welding skillzz. Look forward to seeing how it turns out. I definitely approve of the 'get it back on the road' approach to restoration

skoda_fan Posted March 23, 2018 Posted March 23, 2018 I look forward to that. It'd be great to think it might be the one I remember. After all, how many V8 W1500's can there be. Last time I saw it back in the 90's it was red with a flip front and Riley grille (though I much preferred it in its 70s yellow metalflake phase). Anyway, we digress. Congrats again on the fabulous work on your own resto. D Spares & Tyres and tooSavvy 2
D Spares & Tyres Posted May 29, 2018 Author Posted May 29, 2018 Not having touched it for ages, today I decided it was Holeseley day. So I took some paint stripper to the front wing and removed several layersThen while that was drying i took an angle grinder to the front panelCut a piece of Audi bonnet to fit and welded it inAs I was cleaning up the area with the grinding disc i noticed some small holes that I had missed with the first plate I find it easier and quicker to do it this way rather than cut the lot out at once and try and fabricate a large area in one go.Welds don't need to be pretty, it all gets linished off anywaythen a thin smear of fibreglass to seal the welds just in case of any pinholesBut as usual, that area isn't quite done... I could have done this bit today but it was quite humid and I couldn't be bothered reallyNot to worry. No rush. Maybe next week Joey spud, RayMK, johngarty and 13 others 16
D Spares & Tyres Posted June 6, 2018 Author Posted June 6, 2018 The light at the end of the tunnel? No, just a neighbour's Talbot camper I agreed to weld up ( good plan this, if you fix the neighbour's shite then they can't grumble about my grinding noise or paint fumes when I work on my own projects)I shall do some more work on the Holeseley today, in between Talbot bodgery catsinthewelder, The Moog, Squire_Dawson and 6 others 9
D Spares & Tyres Posted June 7, 2018 Author Posted June 7, 2018 So now, that corner is finally welded! ( apart from one tiny hole) Used one of these to remove several layers of paintVicious buggers, you really need full face protection as when bits fly off they really hurt! They are a fiver each so not cheap, and they don't last that long but they are the best way to remove several layers of old paint without using paint stripper. They don't damage the metal much either. This corner is now ready for filler! Cardinal Wolseley, johngarty, catsinthewelder and 5 others 8
D Spares & Tyres Posted June 7, 2018 Author Posted June 7, 2018 Anyone for pudding?Almost not a Holseley anymore. More like a Wobseley PhilA, Squire_Dawson, adw1977 and 8 others 11
D Spares & Tyres Posted June 8, 2018 Author Posted June 8, 2018 Good old wobIt's quite an intricate shape. Lots of different curves going in different directions. It's never going to be perfect, or even anywhere near which is annoying after all that work. But it will get it on the road. RayMK 1
D Spares & Tyres Posted June 8, 2018 Author Posted June 8, 2018 Another step closer...Will tidy up the wing edge when the wing is on. I'll weld up the edge of the wing, then fill the edges of both together so they meet perfectly. Not this week though, had enough of bodywork for now... adw1977, Cardinal Wolseley, Conrad D. Conelrad and 8 others 11
D Spares & Tyres Posted June 8, 2018 Author Posted June 8, 2018 Oh and I think I've decided what colour the sides of the Wobseley will be:Fiat Bianco Corfu... It's a creamier white than it looks on the photos. Would prefer Old English White but I'm trying to spend as little as possible in this project. Ordered more than I needed to for the Talbot so that'll do! danthecapriman, mercrocker, johngarty and 3 others 6
danthecapriman Posted June 8, 2018 Posted June 8, 2018 You’ve made a bloody nice job of that. There’s few jobs I hate more than rubbing filler down, messy and time consuming. HMC, Scruffy Bodger, D Spares & Tyres and 1 other 4
D Spares & Tyres Posted June 12, 2018 Author Posted June 12, 2018 I don't mind it, strangely. It's fiddly spannering I hate. Did some more on the Talbot todayDid a bit more on the Holeseley tooGot a bit carried away with the Talbot but I am charging him so it's ok. It feels like I've been paid to do the Holesely today! RayMK, Cardinal Wolseley, adw1977 and 1 other 4
D Spares & Tyres Posted June 15, 2018 Author Posted June 15, 2018 Holesley update: Finished welding up the wing. It needed several plates Somebody has been here before... (found loads of old repairs on it. Fitted the wing and wobbed it Germanic style panel gaps And a more British one... That'll do for now. Next job, paint front panel. I'm looking forward to that part Christine, mercrocker, egg and 19 others 22
