trigger Posted December 7, 2017 Author Posted December 7, 2017 I know! I keep thinking about it, I've already got a compressor but it's only a 24l one and by the time I've bought the gun, paint, thinners, hardener etc I thought it be cheaper and easier to stick to cans.
trigger Posted December 10, 2017 Author Posted December 10, 2017 Another non exciting update, I've now got the rear brake pipes made up and all fitted, also finished the front brakes too as well as greased up all the greasy joints, sadly things went tits up again as the brake master cylinder went pop whilst bleeding the brakes so I've now got a repair kit on order. I've also got the rocker cover painted and some snazzy stickers fitted, that will make it run better! Whilst I'm at it I've emailed DMB about getting a new plate made. Other little jobs have been starting to rub down the wheels for paint and getting the indicators and fog light to work again and I've also mopped the bonnet and the scuttle now too So it's slowly getting there! eddyramrod, TagoraSX, greengartside and 28 others 31
barrett Posted December 10, 2017 Posted December 10, 2017 On the plus side, by the time you've done all the paint, mechanical work, got an Mot and are ready to take it to some summer shows, the DMB plate might be ready. Don't bank on it, though. Seriously, it's looking good amd I'm looking forward to some shots of it in daylight trigger 1
trigger Posted December 10, 2017 Author Posted December 10, 2017 I've heard that DMB have gone down hill a bit, who was the other company who does the plates?. I can't wait to get it outside either but with no brakes and I'm currently replacing all the fuel pipe as it's disintegrated it could be a few weeks yet!
barrett Posted December 10, 2017 Posted December 10, 2017 Dunno, I gave up on DMB after six months of back and forth and no plates, and got some £20 'old style typeface' jobbies off ebay. No dealer sticker but the font was right enough
purplebargeken Posted December 10, 2017 Posted December 10, 2017 It is looking very swish indeed Trig. Highly likely better than when new. The seat base is a tricky one. I'd be inclined to keep it as is, it's part of the charm and history of the van. Any new owner can get that changed if they want to I suppose.
Mr_Bo11ox Posted December 10, 2017 Posted December 10, 2017 Can you still get those old style font plates off eBay? I was looking for some the other day and couldn't find a single advert for them that worked!!!

RobT Posted December 10, 2017 Posted December 10, 2017 HMC found a good dealer plate supplier on ebay I believe, might be worth dropping him a PM.
bezzabsa Posted December 10, 2017 Posted December 10, 2017 Thats gunna be better than new at this rate.....I owned a Marina vanin the early 80's- for about a week....proper late 70's stripes, mag wheels and 'furry' seat covers..wheelspun great in reverse, but wouldn't pull a jewish foreskin off in 1st LOL.. was a purpley/blue colour.. almost Black till the sun hit it...cost me A CB radio, and swapped it for a 250 wetdream..LOL trigger 1
trigger Posted December 11, 2017 Author Posted December 11, 2017 DMB have got back to my email enquiry. "We should be able to make a copy of the plate you require. We do however need to see documentation to show proof of I.D. and also proof/paperwork for the vehicle/plate required. These have to be physical documents sent through the post to us which are returned with the goods. If you agree to this then we can proceed." Fuck that, I'm not posting my documents out to them.
Pillock Posted December 11, 2017 Posted December 11, 2017 What? Since when?Loads of people off here have had DMB plates and nobody else has ever mentioned posting a bloody birth certificate, V5 and a DNA sequence to them oldcars 1
egg Posted December 11, 2017 Posted December 11, 2017 Few months ago I was able to email pics of said paperwork to DMB.
trigger Posted December 11, 2017 Author Posted December 11, 2017 I've used them loads of times and never had a issue, the last time I used them a scan of the V5 was all they asked for. I can't see many people using them now if you have to post all that lot to them.
flat4alfa Posted December 11, 2017 Posted December 11, 2017 Sending docs off is standard practice as far as I know. Because only the BS kite marked plates are legal. You have to show the proof DVLA doc in a shop to get plates made up - so why would mail order be any different? They probably got a word in their ear for accepting scans Anything else is a 'show plate' and technically not MOT-able. Plus Plod can tug you on it if they feel like being mean. Eddie Honda, Nicola H and alf892 3
Parky Posted December 11, 2017 Posted December 11, 2017 And yet if I turned up somewhere wanting German style plates or adjusted spacing they would probably do that no problem, despite the illegality.
Eddie Honda Posted December 11, 2017 Posted December 11, 2017 Sending docs off is standard practice as far as I know. Well they need sight of the originals. https://www.gov.uk/displaying-number-plates/getting-number-plates-made-up It's all a load of bollocks. Since 1997 there have been loads of red-tape/bureaucracy/paperwork for motors. SORN - don't think that stopped untaxed vehicles. Register of number plate suppliers - yeah, that only applied to England & Wales at the start and it took another four years before they caught up with Scotland & NI - so it was a piece of piss to order from those countries and ship 'em in without all this paperwork bollocks. Now it's ship them in from Ireland. It's like the good old days here: Tell 'em the number, print it out, pay yer money and fook off.
greengartside Posted December 11, 2017 Posted December 11, 2017 Re: Number plate. Try these guys - http://www.platesforcars.co.uk/designer.php?type=#numberplates A little pricey but I can't see anywhere where they require documents? If they do then I apologise in advance. Ghosty Posted December 11, 2017 Posted December 11, 2017 DMB didn’t ask for anything when I did plates for my old Rover in about Feb this year.
trigger Posted December 11, 2017 Author Posted December 11, 2017 I've found a company called Fancyplates.com who can also do the dealer name for £17 delivered, no idea about the documents yet though. Today I managed to get the roof mopped and started the crap job of undersealing the underside. Have some more up to the minute photos for your viewing pleasure. Eddie Honda Posted December 11, 2017 Posted December 11, 2017 I can tell from the telephone number (country code 353) Under distance selling regs they really should have a geographic address on their website.
alcyonecorporation Posted December 11, 2017 Posted December 11, 2017 DMB have got back to my email enquiry. "We should be able to make a copy of the plate you require. Net Registrations UK did those plates for my 305. They make all the plates for the other firms which offer 'old' plates. They weren't cheap, mind.
flat4alfa Posted December 11, 2017 Posted December 11, 2017 I've found a company called Fancyplates.com who can also do the dealer name for £17 delivered, no idea about the documents yet though. You won't need docs because you are looking at their show plates. Not legal plates made from a kitemark-stamped acrylic blank (BS AU 145d) and (as part of the rules) their name underneath. Fancyplates also have country code +353 proving Ireland. You can only get a number plate made up from a registered number plate supplier. The supplier will need to see original documents that:prove your name and addressshow you’re allowed to use the registration numberhttps://www.gov.uk/displaying-number-plates/getting-number-plates-made-up Besides: Legal consequences. Using show plates on the road puts you at risk of a £1,000 fine. They will also cause you to fail your MOT, so always make sure you use road legal plates, even if you are driving directly to a car show where you’ll put your show plates back on again. Itals are creeping up in value now and worth £1000 on their own, especially after a triggerisation programme. Zammo says: Just Say No, no, just say nohttps://www.regplates.com/blog/2016/06/24/the-difference-between-show-plates-and-legal-plates/ I don't know about down your way but since 2009-onwards campaigns, many of the plate spacing game players over this way have been caught up with and very rarely do I see someone playing spacing games or fancy twat fonts. Besides, do yo really need the Bryans name on the bottom of the plate when you have that excellent rear window sticker. trigger 1
trigger Posted December 11, 2017 Author Posted December 11, 2017 I'm not worried about the plate failing the mot, my tester isn't a jobsworth, I just want the font to be correct. eddyramrod, flat4alfa and BeEP 3
barrett Posted December 11, 2017 Posted December 11, 2017 The plate will only fail an MoT or get you tugged if it is a modern reproduction one. The plate Trigger will be fitting is the original, wot he found down the back of the sofa. Anyone who thinks otherwise will have to prove it I'm afraid. I don't think there is any recorded instance of the law/MoT man kicking off at an age-appropriate plate on an old car. Pressed steel black/silver plates don't have the fancy codes and whatnot underneath and are perfectly legal to buy, not just as show plates either. It's all bollocks and should be ignored completely. Christine, purplebargeken, Rusty_Rocket and 10 others 13
mk2_craig Posted December 11, 2017 Posted December 11, 2017 When did they start having to put the BS Au number onto a plate? You would hope nobody starts getting shitty about that, but if it looks like someone made it in 1984, then that's unlikely. Craig the Princess 1
