Where was I? Oh aye, I had been delivered a sunroof.  This came with the car, so I thought it should be a nice straightforward swap to get rid of this silkaflex monstrosity

 

So I opened up the package containing the sunroof.  Looks like it's been literally cut out of the roof of the donor car

Still, that's not such a worry.

 

This is, though.  

Grey outer is the trim on the inside of the 205.  The black and alu is the spare.  This isn't going to work.

 

Just to check, I ask if anyone recognises the sunroof or the roof on the 205 owners group on Facebook.

First, pop the clag

make a hole

start scraping

This is where the glass seals against the rubber seal.  Can't see that doing much of a good job.

Pull some shit out of the seal

And then remove the silicon sealant, too.

Better.  The seal looks to be in really good nick.

This is why it's not sealing.  Sealant.

Functionally done.

Yuk.

 

This isn't a car to be sorted cosmetically, so that's how it's staying.  There is a bit of a leak into the car in bad rain; it comes in under the passenger side dashboard and runs down the rubber floor mats.  I'll start digging into this next.  Maybe.

If whoever put this clag in here would like to own up, I'd like to post it back to them, wrapped in some argos catalogues.

Does the sunroof leak now? 

Most of the time these can be salvaged by giving the rubber a good scrub and then a nice smear of silicone grease. If the rubbers gone too flat a bit of electrical cable can be tucked under the wire to plump up the seal a bit. 

Bending the little tabs that are the front hinges down helps aswell.

I can't test it because it's dark, but I see no reason why it would.  The seal is good all the way around

Aux belt tightened, no longer slipping.  Could have done with an excuse to drive it today.

Excellent job with the sunroof. Some of my customers put the silicone mastic on the inside for reasons I fail to comprehend. Some sort of perverse logic about that's where the rain comes in I suppose.

Completely unnecessary update

No rear position marker lights on one side.

Some fiddling revealed this was because it has two blown bulbs.

However, also no brake lights.

These bulbs worked fine, so a quick test revealed

Bypassing the switch makes them illuminate

It's not stuck

Deploying litter picker

Spray some contact cleaner and work the switch a bit and

I've ordered some more bulbs.
