Sad to see the Lexus go. DW, I have a brilliant idea for the next car, which incidentally would make for a great series of videos. Save up a bit and plan a trip to France. Buy a French barge there (CX, R25?) and import it. Bonus points for going all the way down to the south coast to guarantee a rust free motor.

DAT EXHAUST

post-19970-0-53499700-1520447419_thumb.jpg

People need to know how much of an insane bargwin this is. I paid the same for the car in June 2015 when it had all of the issues subsequent owners have kindly sorted out. I bought it from dubious characters in a 'lively' part of Leicester, and you have the opportunity to buy it from a gent who's made it Youtube famous.

More importantly, the only component that could threaten the longevity of the car - its cambelt - is now sorted. You could probably now drive it to its next interval with minimal maintenance with fuel being your only serious concern. A well-priced LS400 with cambelt history is virtually unheard of nowadays.

It is the safest way to pop your V8 cherry and, even though my job involves lots of narrow country lane driving, when I sell the S60 in June if I see any reasonably priced and sorted LS400s I'm going to be very hard pushed not to go back to one.

Well, it's a good way to give insurance companies a good laugh!

You never know... we discovered last night that he could insure an XJ40 for the same money as a 205STDT!

I've actually been offered an LS400 before (someone on eBay wanted a straight swap for that A4), and I can't insure them.

Almost certainly, it's well over 20 years old.

It does. I had this one and also the previous LS400 (now loserones) both insured for pennies with Footman James

Can you tell me how much that was? 'Regular' insurance quote returns £40pm which is outwith my budget.

Alas, no. Not really looking for swapsies.

Cheers Brian. I am waiting on a call back from Performance Direct, so Ill try FJ and the above too and see if I'm dreaming!

I shall keep fingers crossed. It was quite pricey for me, but then I need business cover on it.

It works out the same as the Megane with Footman James at £255 for the year which I was very pleasantly surprised at. Let other interested parties take note of that who may think that this is an issue.

However I have done my calculations (I'm rubbish at Maths) and I would be spending all of my savings on this car with nothing left over to put it in for an MOT in April.

You may not consider yourself to be much good at maths but you are eminent at critical reasoning!   :grinning-smiley-043:

Mrs DW allowed the Nippa's battery to go flat. Had to go on a rescue mission. FFS. Was running like a sack of crap.

Then it fixed itself at some point on the 11 mile drive home.

The most annoying thing is that I otherwise enjoyed the drive so much that I'm wondering why on Earth I want to sell it.

Mason has been sold, and will be leaving the forum. It's moving back to the North East of England, and I'm delivering it on Saturday, and collecting my new motor. And Lord Sterling's Micra by the look of it too!

So, back on the gingercators.

Pleasingly, I've sold the clear set for what I paid for them. Which is nice. Very glad I ticked this box before prices rose completely out of range, but it has served as reminder that I just don't really like big cars. I'm amazed I put up with the XM for so long.

Farewell Mason!

Looks rather good in that photo.

How do you plan to collect two cars, though? Is Mrs DW coming along with you, or are we in for more 7.5t truck action?

That Ian, is because you don't know what you want, but are determined to get it.  You'll be wanting a "fitted" kitchen next  :-D

It's obviously gone to a new owner of taste and distinction. :-P

I'm picking Lord Sterling up on my way. Double collection caper! Also, tiny Japanese hatchback battle.
