It was on or near “hermit hill” I remember as I was cursing a lot as I was climbing it (slowly)

Did I read a headline today that you cannot curse in public/ fine if so? Whoops

Lush. How did you shrink your bicycle to fit in the Rover of many wafts, or was it a swapsie?

Hill out of Burghfield towards Burghfield Common, it’s a steep one on a bike so I take my hat off to you. Don’t know about the swearing thing but as I never see many pedestrians there I reckon you’re alright.

I checked before planning it, but 800 saloons as well as hatches have split folding rear seats. Still had to take the front wheel off mind, as the aperture narrows between the wheelarches.

Anyone want a merc e240 estate?

It’s giffer owned from new, pretty much full service history, 3 keys, mot to- end nov 19, good tyres all round.

Drives great, 98k on the clock. It’s the lowest mileage merc I’ve owned. Drives spot on, but there’s a slight, occasional clunk from the near side front- it’s barely noticeable, assume it wants a bush. The rear spheres are still fine so it has actual bump absorption at the rear. You’ll be surprised how many people seem to merrily go round with borked spheres and shite ride quality, none of that here. It’s an elegance so it has a comfort set up and it sits and tracks arrow straight down the motorway. Gearbox works as intended. interior is excellent, electric memory front seats and steering column adjust, leather, cruise, no warning lights, Mb placca boot liner.

Typically it’s the body that lets it down. Rust to all arches, giffer parking scrapes to the bumper ends and some Surface rust to the rear underbody at the back end that wants wire brushing and painting before winter fo sure.

As said, huge service history, all books, 3 keys. It’s had an easy life. Located Tavistock and id like £300

Despite the one I had having fuel pump failure, I would happily have another.

That's a proper bargain surely? Had to convince myself not to message you about it.

At least this one is not a diesel so no fuel pump/injector stuff to spoil the budget Benz party.

This is also more wafty as the other one was a sportier “avantgarde” whereas this is the grandad spec one, which I think I prefer.

Comes with the original brochure and options booklet. Nearly 4 grand on list, one of which was for his and her electric Memory seat and steering column. I would have deffo had heated front seats- seems a bargain at £300 by comparison

HMC sits naked taking pics with the Merc brochure resting on his groin....

Whats seen cannot be unseen :)

Ok, 2 cars sold today. That’s my excuse for an opportunistic e bay buy it now/newly listed/fairly close by combo.

What is it ? See below

How much? £150

HMC LOGIC* Well at the money it can be weighed in and almost all the money will be recouped. I think it’s an honest sale - a quick chat reveals it’s an older couple, her car, had it 15 years but mr feels she should have something newer; she has reluctantly agreed. MOT to jan 2020. My gut feeling is that it all rings true- it’s just a cheap usable car rather than people ditching a dummy. Why would they potentially fuck up their e bay feedback (which is excellent) when it would be just as easy to scrap it? Sentimentality maybe, plus I clicked buy it no before any bidding got going.

I’ll find out tomorrow as I’m cycling over to collect. Astra 1.6 ls manual apparently. Another automotive orphan.

I remember RobT/ al bundy saving a similarly coloured diesel (where is that now) but these have been off my radar completely.

'kin hell man you dont half get through 'em. astra looks an ideal motor.

so what's the current fleet? so hard to keep up.

glad i missed that merc. looked a bargain.

Currently avensis and the Astra.

2 very practical cars. You are clearly at least twice as sensible as the average man.

“Not the newest of cars......... heaps of roll, poor grip and understeer a go-go, making for a wobbly drive at speed”

Not my words, the words of top gear magazine August 1996. And that was the spanking new “sport” with good tyres, unworn suspension etc.

Oh well, I have low standards.

About to pedal off. It’s Tavistock to Wembury, much more familiar territory this time. 2/3rds is on a traffic free cycle route so should be a bit of a potter (I hope)

The hatchbacks leave me a bit cold, but I’ve always liked Astra estates. I guess the same is true of Escorts too tho. There was that lovely mk4 estate that got snaffled by someone on here last August - never to be seen again.

Which one is coming to SF19? This looks viable as a sleeper!
