RobT Posted November 3, 2018 Posted November 3, 2018 Robt will be a very good home for it and he deserves a good’un after previous 90s jag experiences.....Indeed, I'm looking forward to driving a Jag that actually works properly! But in all honesty past experience has still left me with THE FEAR, so I'll mooch about in it for a week or so then roffle it off sharpish. Fat_Pirate bought this one the same time I bought mine. The latter was cubed long ago whereas this is still here, so it must be a good one. loserone, HMC, Isaac Hunt and 4 others 7
SiC Posted November 3, 2018 Posted November 3, 2018 But in all honesty past experience has still left me with THE FEAR, so I'll mooch about in it for a week or so then roffle it off sharpish. I massively have THE FEAR with cars nowadays - just see my MGB thread. After driving 480 miles or so back from Dundee to Bristol it pretty much resolved it. I think I put nearly a thousand miles on it in just over a month and of course completely fault free. The only thing it probably could do with is a gearbox fluid change to make it smooth on every change again. RobT 1
bramz7 Posted November 3, 2018 Posted November 3, 2018 It did 300 miles with me fine. The fuel economy was a bit worrying on the peaks and troughs...think it used 40 litres. RobT 1
Broadsword Posted November 3, 2018 Posted November 3, 2018 Such amazing fleet manoeuvres! If I can sell off my two Jags sharpish, I would be interested in the AS XJ Sport. I have come to realise the right Jag for me is one that is one that is not too good and not too bad. My 3.2 Sport ought to be living in a garage, it’s just too good to be on a driveway. The XJR is too rough to keep but now that the engine has been fixed, I can sell it off as a running spares car. Also it’s danerously fast! By the way doing rear wheel bearings on these is a nightmare!
egg Posted November 3, 2018 Posted November 3, 2018 Such amazing fleet manoeuvres! If our boys were in a band they'd be called Orchestrammel manoeuvres in the dark? I'll get my coat. but really Tayne 1
Isaac Hunt Posted November 3, 2018 Posted November 3, 2018 Oooooph, I don't appear to be able to keep up, safe to say there is 'pass the parcel' and the music is still playing. The Jag deserves a thread of its own that passes to the new owner with the car Broadsword and HMC 2
HMC Posted November 4, 2018 Author Posted November 4, 2018 Busy day at HMC hq. Was great to meet up with wuvvum and Robt. We talked shite, obviously. We drove shite. We swapped shite. Robt goes back to that London one Renault 19 poorer and one forum jag richer. Wuvvum has a longer trek in the alfa 156 and I’ve inherited the Rover 45 diesel hot rod. HMC_jr seemed to be taking an interest.... yes oui si, Dan_ZTT, dollywobbler and 14 others 17
Jim Bell Posted November 4, 2018 Posted November 4, 2018 Fwar. Full report on that Rover Rod please. I stared at that for sale ad at great length. Sounds like a right good steer/sleeper/beater. yes oui si 1
yes oui si Posted November 4, 2018 Posted November 4, 2018 Big fan of diesely rovers, especially ones with a bit of fettling.
holbeck Posted November 4, 2018 Posted November 4, 2018 Wow, you guys have been busy. .....Oh, and welcome back HMC! gadgetgricey and HMC 2
wuvvum Posted November 4, 2018 Posted November 4, 2018 Alfa has made it as far as Portishead. It's a tad thirsty and could really do with a 7th gear, but bugger me does that engine sound gorgeous when you put your toe down. Amazingly flexible too for such a highly strung engine - it was pulling uphill from 1200rpm in 5th with no fuss at all. Good to see you both and to have a steer of the 19, which seems like a thoroughly pleasant way to trundle around. HMC, Jim Bell, Burnside and 1 other 4
Noel Tidybeard Posted November 4, 2018 Posted November 4, 2018 you are all a bunch of perverts all this wife car swapping!
RobT Posted November 4, 2018 Posted November 4, 2018 I'm now home and the Jag drove very well. Two very different journeys today , 1.4 Renner versus 3.2 XJ6, but both had their merits. Good to talk shite as always, and to have a go in the Rover 45 of Doom (despite my inability to cope with the short-shift gearing...) A++ SWOPPING. WUD DO AGAIN. SiC, Bucketeer, Broadsword and 2 others 5
HMC Posted November 7, 2018 Author Posted November 7, 2018 Been dailying the stealth 45. I’ve added an AA badge and put it back on its original 15 inch alloys for maximum stealth effect clayts450, wuvvum, Burnside and 20 others 23
Lacquer Peel Posted November 7, 2018 Posted November 7, 2018 How quick is it? I was seriously tempted when wuvvum put it up for sale but couldn't make the sums and distance work.

yes oui si Posted November 7, 2018 Posted November 7, 2018 Loving that. Folded tartan rug and a trilby on the parcel shelf for the giffer win. oldcars and HMC 2
wuvvum Posted November 7, 2018 Posted November 7, 2018 How quick is it? I was seriously tempted when wuvvum put it up for sale but couldn't make the sums and distance work. With the 17s fitted it hits the rev limiter in 5th at a true 126mph. Allegedly. Off the line acceleration isn't that spectacular as it takes a little while to spool up (best 0-60 run I managed was 9 sec, although theoretically it should be slightly quicker with the 15s) but it's pretty good at overtaking. Lacquer Peel Posted November 8, 2018 Posted November 8, 2018 The 220DI was one of the quickest diesel hatchbacks of its time, they'd leave a 306 DTurbo or Golf TDI for dead. HMC, Rave and Jim Bell 3
HMC Posted November 8, 2018 Author Posted November 8, 2018 I thought I’d thumb through the vast Wodge of receipts, I’ll post a few up when I get chance. Most cautionary are the two gearbox rebuilds, the later rebuild with metal caged bearings for the PG1 box, and junking a Quaife LSD for the Torsen one from a 620TI, I wonder if similar such concoctions used to lurk around the Longbridge site?
HMC Posted November 14, 2018 Author Posted November 14, 2018 Early 90s Renault wheel trims look a lot like pound shop specials. I’ve come to this conclusion after looking around for some for the Renault 19. None of them ever have the Renault badge but look fussy and a bit crap. The GTS-x originally had “alize” 13” trims- which are unobtanium pound shop-a-likes. I ended up with some 13” “Madrid” trims that came on clio mk1s and early meganes. Soz for bad pic. jumpingjehovahs, Lacquer Peel, wuvvum and 9 others 12
RobT Posted November 14, 2018 Posted November 14, 2018 Good choice of period trim. That looks much smarter now. I agree on the OE Alize ones, not worth bothering with. I did search eBay.fr briefly but found nowt. HMC 1

Noel Tidybeard Posted November 15, 2018 Posted November 15, 2018 i know what you mean about renner trimz- some were proper mint style wise this was first set that got put on Reg after the poondland jobs learned to fly!but were not oem and quite hard plastic which the paint started jet-washing off so after waiting patiently* some jenyouwine renner clitto trims were found and they look the bollox RobT, michael t, Dirk Diggler and 4 others 7

HMC Posted November 18, 2018 Author Posted November 18, 2018 Change In living accommodation and life means the rover 45 will be my sole transport and I’m moving the Renault 19 and Xantia on. I’ll post up pics in a sec- 1997 Xantia 1.9d temptation/ mot 10 months. Runs and drives fine, suspension work as it should. Recent cambelt, spheres all round. Quite tidy but lacquer crazed on boot lid and thin on the leading edge of the bonnet. Passenger side rear door lock doesn’t lock on the central locking. Bit of grot on the offside sill which passed the mot fine but will need a patch at some point. The accelerator feels like it’s a bit sticky in its travel occasionally but very minor. Lots of receipts and history. £175 1991 Renault 19 gts-x / mot April. Very tidy body, remote central locking (only on front doors) sunroof sealed due to leak, snazzy interior trim. 1.4 “energy” carb fed / 5 speed with no PAS. Occasional minor hesitation on part throttle. Boot opens from inside. Sexy fog lamps, new front tyres. £175 Located Tavistock.
Fabergé Greggs Posted November 18, 2018 Posted November 18, 2018 Ohh go on then, I’ll take the Xant! Lacquer Peel, HMC, oldcars and 3 others 6
