Dick Cheeseburger Posted March 21, 2023 Posted March 21, 2023 Oh, that's a stunner. What's the story (ᵐᵒʳⁿⁱⁿᵍ ᵍˡᵒʳʸ)?
Zelandeth Posted March 21, 2023 Posted March 21, 2023 Very nice. Yes, I'm more than a little jealous.
Soundwave Posted March 21, 2023 Posted March 21, 2023 Lovely! You wait ages for a P4 on AS, then two come along at once... Saabnut, AnnoyingPentium, GrumpiusMaximus and 4 others 7

SiC Posted March 21, 2023 Posted March 21, 2023 I bidded on that to £1950 but it didn't hit reserve. It was on the P4 drivers guild website at over £5k and I assumed the reserve was a lot higher. Anyway I decided to buy the one I have. When the auction ended, the chap offered it for my bid price. I was very tempted but I turned him down as I'd rather have the 6cyl, even if scruffier than this 4cyl when given a choice. HMC 1

Likewise I offered on yours via Facebook, and the vendor was going to get back to me, if it wasn’t collected; which it was. I’ve had a 100 and a 110 and a dead 80 (which I never actually drove) and wanted to try a less nose heavy one for local pottering. BorniteIdentity, N Dentressangle and SiC 3
HMC Posted March 21, 2023 Author Posted March 21, 2023 Back home after a bit of a Dartmoor potter about This has got tonnes of history- it was on the road till about 1968 and then was left untill returning to the road in 1991. All the docs and history suggest it’s done 31k from new. It certainly drives more lightly and crisply than the other ones I’ve had. The photos are from 1988/89. Dyslexic Viking Posted March 21, 2023 Posted March 21, 2023 I'm surprised it has disc brakes at the front I had thought they had drums.
Surface Rust Posted March 21, 2023 Posted March 21, 2023 I think the P4 is becoming the Southern AS version of the Ssangyong Rexton. Rust Collector, Matty, CaptainBoom and 1 other 4

Surface Rust Posted March 21, 2023 Posted March 21, 2023 A pillage sounds apt! How do you find the 4 cyl compared to the 6? I love the sound of the 6 and think I'd miss the torque, but lighter parking also sounds appealing!

HMC Posted March 22, 2023 Author Posted March 22, 2023 I did the school run this am in the p4. I got to it a bit earlier than necessary as I was unsure if the car would turn over and start. It did perfectly. I have low expectation, at least at first when it’s called upon to be AN CAR rather than an exhibit. It had rained quite heavily overnight and a the front mats were quite wet, looked like the door seals were to blame. My eldest (aged 9) was much taken with the radio that needed to be tuned manually. Totally alien to him, and a source of amusement. I did test it out but although it had power, it just made cracking noises. He suggested we look for an antenna (which we found mounted on the roof) and when we extended it the radio worked! Think it was bbc world service that we picked up on LW? HMC Posted March 22, 2023 Author Posted March 22, 2023 Its just occurred to me that “radio on” is a 1970s British art house film what I’ve got a copy of. The protagonist drives a knackered p4 from London to Bristol. Might watch it again soon. chaseracer, bigstraight6, egg and 5 others 8

A Trudge It is peculiar how low the values (outside of The Guild) have remained on even quite nice examples of these. You can pick up a reasonable P4 for the same sort of money as a Morris Minor which makes you wonder why you'd pick up a Morris Minor. Suppose you could just have both. Matty and egg 2

C&SC reviewed a 60 and reckoned the lighter IOE 4 was a better steer than the 80; both run rings around the 6s.
