Unconfirmed reports that AS field operative phil_lip has recovered the asset* from a location in Warwickshire.

He reports most of the damped quality* action fixtures and fittings are intact.

It Was great to meet up again with phil_lihp as he dropped off £380 worth of prime VAG. I'm happy with the new VW, it's had one family owner from new and done 239k. They didn't seem to be keen on washing it but liked to collect tax discs in the original dealer tax disc holder. I've got every last one!

Right back to the one supplied new on its day of registration.

Finally home with a cup of tea after a long day of train delays, although that said, the drive back was incredibly easy and it all made for a good day out.  I didn't even have to stop for fuel on the way home as the seller had left half a tank in it.  He was a thoroughly pleasant chap, picked me up from the station and seemed a bit sad to see the car go, not really surprising given it's been in their family since new.  The interior is a tad grotty and the outside looks like it has never seen more than the occasional automatic car wash but it should scrub up well.  Aside from the suspension being a bit bouncy and the steering being a little bit wandery on the motorway, the mileage didn't really seem to have affected it, it's held up well.

Good to catch up with HMC again, interesting chat with his neighbour and a brief admiring glance at his slightly mouldy and broken but still rather lovely X300 XJR.

What does a £100 Ford KA look like? I will be able to answer this later today when I collect one. MOT to October, runs and drives. If there is any metal left holding the fuel filler to the body it will be a fucking miracle. 51 plate so which engine will this have?

Nice! It's a 420G - the giveaway being the side indicators and thicker central grille bar.

Not forgetting the biggest giveaway of all, the chrome side strips to break up the huge bulbous shape.

1966 D will be an early one.

I ran a MK 10 4.2 as a daily for 7 years! Yes, it was old then but I loved it, even after it fell on my head (scars still visible to prove :)    ) as all the rear subframe bushes were rotten. It was a really reliable old heap (not a heap at all) and quietly rapid when pressed. I would have another but prices have gone skywards now after decades where they were worthless. Mine was a 'C' reg (FJU 99C) so one of the last MK Xs which were better cos more wood and leather. Mine also had a record player in the front armrest that played 45s... and it worked! Sold it to my step dad and he left it in a field and last heard, it was still there! he was a right wanker sometimes.

Depending on what it looks like I may well be interested in this having missed the boat with Mr Dyanes one.

Probably looks a bit like mine did when I bought it for £100 and it still had an MOT...

Less metal=less weight=more speed so no worries there.

Mine's a 52 plate and was one of the first to have the duratec. I suspect yours has the old motor, could be wrong though.

Welcome to the club, you'll love it...

What colour?

Made it back! A slipping clutch meant I had to be quite sympathetic with it. There is the question of rust. Not so much yes/no. More how bad, as we are talking about a model which does it for fun. However, other Ka qualities remain such as chuckability, and a sense of wanting to wring the most out of its time before the bridge beckons. post-4673-0-81932900-1533154310_thumb.jpegpost-4673-0-04699800-1533154331_thumb.jpegpost-4673-0-07746500-1533154342_thumb.jpegpost-4673-0-46274800-1533154361_thumb.jpegpost-4673-0-42248400-1533154376_thumb.jpegpost-4673-0-17268900-1533154406_thumb.jpegpost-4673-0-20438700-1533154422_thumb.jpegpost-4673-0-60140100-1533154442_thumb.jpegpost-4673-0-87450200-1533154469_thumb.jpeg

Given that most KAs are now badged Hotpoint that looks pretty decent.

I had one of these as my first car, the earlier engine model too. I remember it being far more fun than it had any right to and the oily bits seemed pretty bulletproof.

Later I briefly had a Fiesta with the 1.3 duratec engine that later Ka's got, I ve got bitter memories of having to remove the manifold just to replace the icv. Shortly afterwards the thermostat housing started leaking, I fixed it and sold it shortly afterwards and swore never again.

They are a great steer for what they are - enjoy slinging it about:)

This crate sounded like it had a cvt ‘box so bad was the clutch slip. It was also restricting the application of its limited power and hampering its chuckability. Boring! Plans to nurse the the clutch till the mot evaporated and I banged it in to a local garage, collecting it this evening with a new clutch fitted.

I’ve just changed the ancient oil and filter....

I also dared to look underneath a bit more and it doesn’t seem too bad (for a ka) which perhaps isn’t saying much but what do the AS collective think?post-4673-0-95452200-1533324219_thumb.jpeg

That looks alright that, well done for saving it. Lesser men would have gone straight to the bridge and not passed GO.

Looks alright from the pictures there. Great wee things these, no need for any more power than is provided by the wee 1.3 chapper.

Pretty tidy tbg - Good effort on having the clutch done. One day we'll wake up and wonder where they've all gone!

Looks good, I do like these things.  Well done on getting the clutch done, it deserves to live on for a bit longer yet.

The modern relative of the Ford Pop. An uninspiring bag of crap merely providing transport, and only satisfactorily if you are 5 feet tall at that. Like only due to unintentional Y THO.

hateful little shitboxes

no brakes

no power

no space

no good!

i had the misfortune of one from the insewerants company, thankfully for one day it was locked in grandads garage whilst i drove us all down to devon in the Primevil that would become mine

Nice one man, looks pretty clean to me. Must get mine sorted.

Saw a gold one on its way to the scrappers today and was sad.

Posted

That looks a good one to be honest...

I still want one. Preferably an early one with the Valencia engine like that and in as bright a colour as possible.

Even if the clock is utterly impossible to read after dark.

Few cars I've driven are as much fun as a well sorted Ka on a twisty road.

I used to love driving these when I worked for the Ford dealer. Back in about 2000 I worked at the local main dealer and we had a fleet of these as courtesy cars, admittedly they were all nearly new but we're such good fun to trash around. How they feel when now they are this age I don't know!

At 80,000 odd miles and getting on for 20 years mine feels pretty tight and "new" by my standards - still begs to be thrashed like a hire car. Saying that, new shocks didn't hurt, and new tyres (as ever) made a huge difference.

I think it's miles, and who put them on, that makes the difference. I like a well-worn motor, but FWIW my Ka doesn't feel like one.

Always loved them.  Like JoeyEunos, I had an original one with the old engine as my first car.

Mine had issues with rust around the suspension mounts.  That's where it starts, structurally with these, other than the sills.  Yours looks quite solid and the rust is minimal.  These seem to divide Autoshite but I'm firmly in the 'love them' camp and throwing mine around country lanes was like no other car I've had.  Not even the Fiesta I had subsequently.  Not great fun on the motorway, though.

This is up for sale as I’ve decided to buy a mk1 focus to go with my ka. Predictable!

2003 vw Passat se TDI 130. Mot to end of year. Loads of history. One family owner from new before me. Very high spec. It’s not a “high line” it pre dates those (but is a similar colour) and has far more options.

130 pd AWX 1.9 TDI with 5 speed. Punchy, and economical. No dash warning lights. All gauges work properly. It’s done 240k but the engine is lovely- no smoke, runs and pulls perfectly. Gearbox great with no weak synchros. Clutch bites a bit high perhaps but absolutely no slip or wierd noises.

Body good, a couple of slight dents and the odd scratch but very tidy and hasn’t been abused. It still looks smart and respectable. Bit of rust of one front wing. Roof rails, tow bar, alloys. Front tyres low but good for a few miles yet. Boot and fuel flap need opening manually/with key, but otherwise the remote locking on both keys and all locks etc function perfectly.

Interior has cleaned up really well. Tidy and very high spec- leather, heated front seats including backrest (works) climate control (ac weak but bill for a service last year) factory sat nav (works and has software etc but best viewed as a historical artefact) cruise (works) sunroof- a very high spec sunroof. Solar panel equipped so when in direct sunlight with the car parked up it powers a fan that refreshes the cabin air. TBH seems pointless but presumably expensive when new. Tilts and slides but the fabric cover only follows the roof on the slide and needs reattaching to go up when the panel tilts. Original vw overmats and dealer stuff.

Drives ok - engine gearbox brakes perfect. There’s the odd knock over bumps at the front and having driven others I recon there’s a slight bit of slop somewhere too. Perfectly usable but no doubt there’s a bush or ball joint needing replacement somewhere. My wife has driven it and doesn’t notice, to be honest.

Lots of history- original books, wads of receipts, every tax disc, all original plates and stickers etc, 2 keys and a Haynes.

Located Tavistock, tested to end of the year and I’d like £280

Someone certainly ticked a lot of the expensive option boxes when that was ordered from the factory.
