The Reverend Bluejeans Posted December 25, 2018 Posted December 25, 2018 At least Essenshire On Ruhr isn’t too far into the Reich. Do the matching EN:GS number plates have a significance? Aber frohe weihnachten - so viel als möglich.
Six-cylinder Posted December 25, 2018 Posted December 25, 2018 My turn to put a Range Rover TD6 reliability to the test, I have to take a fridge to Wales this morning so the obvious choice is the RR! Forty45, HMC and gadgetgricey 3
DodgeRover Posted December 25, 2018 Posted December 25, 2018 In my opinion the only way to make things better* would be to purchase a mk1 transit fire van for the drive back at 60kph flat out... somewhatfoolish, HMC and Jim Bell 3

Not to give HMC's RR any ideas the results are in Six cylinder Motoring Notes! http://autoshite.com/topic/19386-six-cylinders-motoring-notes-2004-2005-2006-2007/page-110?do=findComment&comment=1697924
HMC Posted January 5, 2019 Author Posted January 5, 2019 This Range Rover tended to run cool. Alas it’s got 3 bloomin thermostats (EGR, transmission and main) so potentially a PITA to diagnose. Plus the main is wrapped around the water pump. No thanks. I removed the EGR coolant circuit and deleted the EGR itself. Thats one thermostat gone. I also copied a common rover 75 diesel mod by fitting a Renault 5 thermostat in the top hose ( not the same engine, but similar architecture as they are both BMW units) result is it now it warms up properly. I celebrated by going to the supermarket where a more valuable cousin parked next to it..... timolloyd, jumpingjehovahs, Brodders and 17 others 20
catsinthewelder Posted January 5, 2019 Posted January 5, 2019 I love the fact that you put R5 bits on a modern RR. 320touring and mk2_craig 2
320touring Posted January 5, 2019 Posted January 5, 2019 Good effort with the r5 stat, likely most reliable part on it N Dentressangle 1
richardthestag Posted January 6, 2019 Posted January 6, 2019 Does EGR Delete fall foul of Mr MoT or did I dream that?
Shirley Knott Posted January 6, 2019 Posted January 6, 2019 Yup, EGR delete is an offence on the updated test list as I understand it (Someone please correct me if I'm wrong) I suppose it all comes down to how sympathetic/absent minded your tester is really.
HMC Posted March 1, 2019 Author Posted March 1, 2019 OK, in brief I am going through a divorce and was aiming to get a house to move on in my life and share custody of the 2 HMC juniors. Alas the house purchase also went wrong following a survey and I’ve wound up at a flat above my work premises. I’m ditching the sensible fiesta tomoz as my prospective commute is a walk down some steps rather than a 45 minute slog in a car. I’ve got this currently also Former minibus now basic camper prefacelift sprinter with a n/a om601 slugger, I’ll post up some more pics tomorrow in all its glory* And contemplating a 1990 Carlton cdx or a 2004 Mini Cooper s, any guesses which will be in the fleet shot on Sunday? The Moog Posted March 1, 2019 Posted March 1, 2019 Fingers crossed for the Carlton Sorry to hear about the life stuff, but that camper means you are winning in the eyes of a man on the internet DSdriver and cobblers 2
Jim Bell Posted March 1, 2019 Posted March 1, 2019 Got to be the Carlton, but the Cooper S would be a nice consolation prize. Sorry to hear about the negative aspects of HMC life man.
bramz7 Posted March 1, 2019 Posted March 1, 2019 Carlton so I can buy it off you? That's right, I've played that card! Hope things improve buddy, can't be much fun.
HMC Posted March 1, 2019 Author Posted March 1, 2019 Thanks. Like a true petrolhead a big factor in buying the house (I was single when I bought it) was the length of the drive and consequent car buying options (6 or 7 cars if parked carefully) eddyramrod, The Moog and Jim Bell 3
HMC Posted March 1, 2019 Author Posted March 1, 2019 Carlton so I can buy it off you? That's right, I've played that card!Hope things improve buddy, can't be much fun.Cheers, spending my last night here drinking champaigne in bed as I type (wierd but true!) Jim Bell and paulplom 2
Jim Bell Posted March 1, 2019 Posted March 1, 2019 Cheers, spending my last night here drinking champaigne in bed as I type (wierd but true!) Single when you bought and and single on the way out? I hope there was many happy years in between fella.
Broadsword Posted March 1, 2019 Posted March 1, 2019 Best of luck getting life stuff sorted out. Sorry to hear you are having a hard time of it. Lots of fun to be had either with the Carlton it Cooper S, although I am biased towards superchargers myself these days. Jim Bell 1
mrbenn Posted March 1, 2019 Posted March 1, 2019 Carlton or Mini? Both, surely! Sorry to hear of the life crap
twosmoke300 Posted March 1, 2019 Posted March 1, 2019 Know the feeling ! If you ever want a chat feel free to PM . Or I can come and buy another car off you
RobT Posted March 1, 2019 Posted March 1, 2019 All the best regarding the life situation old bean. Been missing your car buying antics! Has to be the Carlton if it's the one I'm thinking of.
Split_Pin Posted March 2, 2019 Posted March 2, 2019 I admire your 'onwards and upwards' attitude, long may that continue. Looking forward to seeing the upcoming purchase!
320touring Posted March 2, 2019 Posted March 2, 2019 Hope things work out ok chap! And that you are back in a steady stream of tasty automobiles soon:)
Timewaster Posted March 2, 2019 Posted March 2, 2019 Supercharge the Carlton. Sorted. loserone, Jim Bell and The Moog 3
holbeck Posted March 2, 2019 Posted March 2, 2019 HMC, sorry to hear that life is dealing some shitty cards. Hope things work out for you in the end.
HMC Posted March 13, 2019 Author Posted March 13, 2019 ^thanks mr barnaby! (Or is that bergerac?) So I ditched the fiesta as it was painfully capable and efficient and hence bored me. As I’ve secretly always wanted to try one, I got myself a Mini Cooper S. I wouldn’t pretend it’s shite, but it was initially developed by rover bods, and oddly the supercharger whine is a little bit like (sort of) the first gear whine of Minis and metros. Future classic? Who knows, it’s certainly fun and to my eyes is the least unappealing of the MINI model line to date. Yesterday I picked up a £350 merc estate. Obv it has rust but also currently has an mot. The rear suspension spheres are on their way out so the ride at the back is a bit abrupt. Maybe a job for the summer, I’ll see what the MOT brings first..... RobT, holbeck, Springer and 10 others 13
Marm Toastsmith Posted March 13, 2019 Posted March 13, 2019 I like the rusty one most. You might need to put some tape on it to hold that lump of filler in place. HMC 1
gadgetgricey Posted March 13, 2019 Posted March 13, 2019 Hope you are keeping well, but good to see that your car mojo seems to be returning.Still got the Rx8 for a deposit if/when you get bored of the Bini. All the best HMC 1
