Nowhere does it say it doesn't start. You only need a new battery when the old one fails.... Replacing parts before they need replacing is a fast track to madness.

I concur,sir.

Must be something to do with Motorcraft quality, my Cosworth is still on original 22 years, still tip top.

That looks flippin ace. I'd see the original battery as a plus myself, even if it was getting a bit tired.

Looks like a £700 car all day when you see the shite being offered elsewhere.

Now I've seen the photos I reckon this is worth the asking price. I doubt there are many as tidy as this still around.

Thanks for the comments guys & girls, there's plenty of years/miles left in this motor, cheap to buy cheap to run, no stupid electronics, easy to work on, quite rare, What's not to like? Dam! think I might keep it....

My brother should have a driving licence soon. I was seriously considering offering this to him as a first car. Personally I think it looks superb and is pretty much guaranteed to keep going for years. Shame the way insurance goes he will have to go into something modern instead. If that looks as good in person as I suspect it will, I think it is work every penny. Must drive lovely too.

If it's mint as the photos show, it's worth it imo. Sometimes to get quality you have to spend a bit more than the average price.

I have fond memories of the 1.25 of these. They were the banger of choice when I was 18 and passed my test in 2004. A couple of mates had them in 1.25 flavour. They feel quicker and rev much more than they should be.

I don't think it'll be long before they're in demand and rise as those similar age to me get nostalgic. They're dying out fast from rot, abuse and general demise.

Tbh it is very nice. They are getting rarer and you know they'll go up and become overpriced like all Fords soon. I'd keep it but then I'm biased.

When did that 1.3 unit finally disappear? Seemed to go on forever!!

With the end of the mk1 Ka in 2008?

I personally think it's well worth the money, it's a bit like my search for a mk6 Escort, if I found a local one that mint I'd pay it even if others thought it was overpriced, someone will pay that for it. Just needs to be advertised in the right place and to the right sort of person and not the usual gumtree idiots who want cars at this price and would rather a fucked E46 BMW for the same money as this is!

Looks alright for the price that, you aren't going to get something that clean for £500. So what about the battery? Stick a £25 one on from ECP.

Different motor to the Ka from 2002-2008, that's a duratec se or some BOLLOX.

At a guess is say 2002/3 or maybe a bit of late registration madness but early 2000' deffo.

Great little engine is of course a tad undefined.

Very very tough though.

Isn't it still the same engine just tweaked for later emissions requirements?

Just like the 1.4 in the mk5 is labelled Duratec but it's a Zetec really?

Fucking minty fresh that, like it a lot!

The overhead valve job continued at the bottom end of the 2002-on Fiesta range for a couple of years.

i belive that the ex-Kent/Valencia/what ever OHV Ford engine out of the Fester is still in production in Brazil as an inboard boat engine.

So it's literally lived up to its reputation as a boat anchor.

I like the old 1.3 though it was a rattly old thing but really simple.

That is lovely. When did you last see one with rear arches, never mind one this clean.

That is extremely lovely, I can't remember the last time I saw one that clean

Why the negativity about the battery- I was always impressed how long Motocraft batteries soldier on for- it'll probably keep on working long after an ECP one is out of warrany and recycled. That really is an excellent wee motor for someone.
