Hi folks, look what just arrived from deepest darkest Devon!

Sorry for the shit quality pics, but taken just now and after dark!

Really solid from our initial inspection, and new bonnet, gear box and doors included in price - amazing what you can get if you shop around, eh?

Nice!

I used to walk past a C reg one of these on my way to/from school years back. It was silver and spectacularly rusty even back then. Good looking car though.

Oh, every panel in pock-marked all over with rust, but the arches and sills seem solid!

I just love the shape of these when viewed side-on, the body line is quite extraodinary

That's what drew my attention to it. I'm not a big French car fan tbh but these had the look of something cool and unique. And you never ever see them now so they look even more special.

That silver one was breaking out in rust blisters and blebs literally everywhere, mostly randomly. The panels would have a huge random rust blister right in the middle of them for no obvious reason for example. It even had rusty coloured streaks running down it where rain had stained the paint with rust as it ran down them! Somebody must have loved it though as it lasted like that for years.

Ah, I wondered what had happened with this. I assumed the radio silence meant you'd not bothered with it. Cap doffed - for 100 notes it's a no-brainer, even with delivery on top.

Does it have a back story as to why it was laid up for so long, and any old history or owt with it?

It was just laid up in a barn by a chap who owns 3 other fuegos, and planned eventually to use parts off this one. He had to demolish the barn for one reason or another, so commendably and unusually decided to sell it rather than see it rot!

Not bothered with it? That was down to the first two southern-softy delivery drivers! They went to look at it, and saw it was marooned a mile away from the road and with back wheels seized in an apple orchard on a farm. Both declined to even attempt recovery, but a pair of Cumbrian lads went down, took 3.5 hours getting it loaded and on the road, and described it as "Nae bother!"

Wow, fantastic! It's an untrue fact that these share the rear glass hatch with the Porsche 924. I've got a spare one if you like but it won't fit.

There was a very base model looking Fuego at Brooklands in January. I hadn't seen one in years. It made my day.

Nice work! That redeems the tale related on here, years ago, of the idiots who put a black Fuego through a load of MOT work, purely so as it could immediately be scrappaged through the government scheme. Boiled a lot of piss that did.

Excellent!!! They are superb looking cars. I remember walking past a black one on my way to school every day....

Good luck with It, look forward to seeing how this progresses.

I love these. Always have, always will.

Mechanically it's pretty standard Renault so any bits shouldn't be too bad to find. And sounds like you got a bit of a barg!

They used to be everywhere then seemed to disappear overnight. Great to see one being saved.

My mate's Ma had a brand new one back in the day.  The interior (and exterior for that matter) seemed very exotic at the time.

I disagree.  Nothing can redeem stupidity of that level, that's positively professional!

Well bought, btw, what's the spec?

As you probably know much is shared with the Renault 18 - including the dash IIRC. That won't help parts hunting here much but worth bearing in mind should you start trawling Leboncoin.

(hits Leboncoin and looks for Fuegos)

Nice one. I couldn't believe the price when I posted it in the Tat Thread. Looking forward to the resto thread.

I'd double like it if I could, these were always stylish in my eyes. A former colleague owned one back in the early 80s which was a lovely gunmetal silver with red interior, sadly it was written off after a lorry wheel bounced into it on the M5. It wrecked the rear wing and back window but still got him to work.

I had a black GTX many years ago, swapped it for a R20 GTX. Oddly enough I'd forgotten both cars till I read this thread. Good luck OP.
