Electric Railway Museum LAST EVER OPEN DAY!!! Sunday 8th October. A Scotoshite and Midlands Massiv Joint Event.

How do troops.

Last time the Associated Massivs had a meeting we did the Midlands Air Museum and noted the electric train museum next door. It was closed so we didn't get to see much and it was noted that the museum's site wasn't long for this world.

It was announced recently that the council hadn't renewed the lease for the site and it would have to be cleared so the final open day will be Sunday 8th October 2017. The museum is next door to the Midlands Air Museum at Coventry Airport.

Anyone fancy it before I make any hotel bookings? Fuck it I may just do it anyways.

EDIT : Current Plan of Action

Attend the railway museum at 1030 for opening. Spend a couple of hours browsing and nattering.

Head to the Wythall Transport museum approx lunch time for the running day and blat about on some old buses for a while.

Dinner at The Red Lion, Alvechurch (Booking required so add your name to the list). Say about 1730ish? Some of us will be driving back to Scotland after dinner. ---BOOKED---

I would be up for this, but as I am only an hour away for a day visit.

Annoyingly, I'm on holiday.

Could do. I was thinking overnighting from Saturday in to the Sunday anyways.

I'd like to go too.

** If we got 62 car batteries in series, we could run one of the 750v DC units. For a few yards.

Excellent idea. I'll bring my driving keys.

Looks like there's some interest then. I'll book a hotel for the Saturday evening when I get home from work.

Various Premier Inns nearby however I may treat myself to a night at Coombe Abbey BECAUSE DECADENT BASTARD!!!

I have actually been here and its ok. The volunteers etc are very knowledgeable and they had a little railway for my kids to ride on. I shall check my calendar.

This is on my doorstep, but I've never been. Never understood why it's nowhere near a feckin' railway.

There's a good statistical chance Dr Beeching is the reason it's nowhere near a feckin' railway.

I know what you're saying, but it's at the top of a hill on the edge of an airport. Pretty sure there's never been a railway line anywhere near. Not that that necessarily has any relevance to anything, just strikes me as odd, since no matter how big their collection grows, or how successful, they could never run them.

Errol Flynn, film actor type, was a notorious womanizer, hence 'in like Flynn'.

I should get out more, possibly to the Electric Railway Museum, but can't because miles away etc.

I really should have dragged my are along before but I didn't so stick me on the list.

May also be up for this. September is looking a bit crazy so why not make October ridiculous too?

But there is a Scottish taxi service heading south :)

I just spent 30 minutes looking a train videos on Youtube. I began looking for Milton Keynes high-speed pass-thrus as whenever I go anywhere I tend to go from MK and Virgin trains tend to thunder through there at unabated speed, much to my childish glee.
