Cars you Miss and Regret

Recommended Posts

This is the One I regret moving on, it's still in its pristine condition it was in when I sold it year before last.

:(

The sheer ability to absolutely enjoy a drive is what this car gave me, over many many hundreds of miles.

Would I have another one ? ....

Yes, as long as it's the 3.0 auto and has to be pre-facelift.

It certainly had the ability to make its way quite fast when I wanted it too ;)

Depends whether we mean getting rid of our particular example of the car or whether we still wish we had one of.....whatever we had that was too crap to keep spending money on.

For example I wish I still had a BMC Farina.  But not mine.

Stuff I do miss, could have kept and could have improved if I weren't so young/foolish/broke.....

Ford Zephyr 6 MkIII.    Jealous Wifelet Mk2 was its only downfall....

Mercedes W116 280SE.     Only sold because I didn't want to pay for a lock up garage.   Only now I rent three of the bloody things......

Vauxhall Ventora, with Rover v8 and Jaaaag arse end.

Vauxhall Magnum.

Mk1 scrote van, Rs 2000 running gear.

Mog Minor splitty, 3ltr straight 6.

Ford Canada 4x4. Not a car but a truck from 1938.

Austin Champ.

No photos, unfortunately.

Audi 200T - C2. I had three of the unreliable bastards.

If only I'd had the knowledge and funds back then eh?

None, I always sell them when I don't want them, or they need more spending on than I think it's worth.

I did regret selling a Harley once but that's not a car

I regret pretty much all of them - I have perfected the ability to sell a car just before its value goes stratospheric.

Im considering weighing in my mk VI Escort estate later this week and regret it already even though its still sitting in the garden.

Dog's dick red V70. Just wouldn't want back the one I had though - its prior hard life left it with never ending AWD issues. I shouldn't have bridged it though - if I'd been aware of AS then, it would have been a dirt cheap roffle.

About half an hour ago I scrapped my 1989 Cavalier SRi. No regrets as such... just sad :(

I had an e28 five series with a SBC in it and a Toyota box. It looked standard but went like you might expect with about 300bhp. Untouchable in the dry and undriveable in the wet. It was ACE though!

The only two that I wish I still had were my 1958 Chevy Yeoman 2-door wagon, it's alive and well and living in Finland, and my 1961 Impala 2-door hardtop 'Bubbletop'. That belongs to a friend who sadly became unwell behind the wheel and hit a corner of a building a couple of years ago in Herne Bay. It is being rebuilt courtesy of a parts car from France.

Never, ever shoulda let this one go. Owned from 1997 to 2005; poured much more than I could afford into making her as good as I possibly could with new panels and a recon engine and box, plus Magnum interior and trim upgrades. Was horribly vandalised by persons unknown with a screwdriver six months after I finished a full restoration; and while waiting on bits to repair I lost storage on her not once but twice in quick succession. Ended up having to let her go for £250, as I was working in Sussex (and then Australia) and the car was stored in Northern Ireland. The lad I sold her to left her to rot in a yard for several years, before being passed on to some banger boys - or so I was told when I put out feelers in 2008 to see if I could buy her back. Still makes me sick to think about it... ah now.

Holden Kingswood station wagon, regd on a K and absolutely in need of several months welding which wasn't going to get done as we were planning on emigrating . Should never have sold it :(

Completely rotten, lost storage (hence mass scrappage), lack of time, baby on the way... so many things.

My Citroen CX 20 Pallas. 1988 registered '84 metal bumpered Neptune grey car in PO spec. ( overseas climate upgrading ). The very last registered series 1 cx in the U.K. Originally destined for the French embassy in Australia ( French diplomatic colour etc).
Had it two years before some moronic Frenchman hit it head on driving on the wrong side of the road. In France!

Edit, it was 16 years ago, and I'm still bitter!

I knew selling this was a shit idea and regretted it as soon as I handed the keys over. I got my current one a few years later though.

I loved this car too and hated seeing it go, but it's been in good hands since which does make up for it.

My XJ40, I really really REALLY shouldn't have killed it by driving into a lamp post.

Wish I coulda hung on to the Sierra Ghiamatic when the lad came along four years ago, this was in ace condition and the twin cam was about as good as those things get. Thought its future was secure when I sold it (profitably) to a classic car club member, but it lapsed back into daily driver use with a subsequent owner and eventually crashed. An increably rusty Austin A40 Farina saloon. I'd never had got it finished but that would have been a lovely car.

Celica liftback. The one that looked like a mini mustang. It had to go because I had three speeding  endorsements which should have been a ban but also had a good solicitor friend.
