It took me to collect a takeaway last night!

The one thing nobody warned me of, is the sexual red illumination of the dash at night. It is sensational.

That's one thing I can't stand and is one of many reasons I'd not get a VAG product.

Different strokes for different folks I guess. It was a pleasant change from the very green dials of all 90s Fords and the amber glow of Mercedes.

I concur. I first came across this (almost literally, I was that excited) on a 1998 A4. Will never forget it!

Wife already getting the arse about this being on the drive, and it’s been here precisely 22 hours. Time waits for no woman, seemingly, so I made a start between showers.

Any ideas of it staying have quickly been dismissed by management, so it’s probably off to a new home in the next couple of weeks.

Bonnet has started to come up well. Still pink in places but will return to red with persistence and time.

Fact=cars like this cheaper to maintain than wives.

Just saying.

Mind you also a fact that once you get rid of a car you don't have chip in for its maintenance.......

Like the Sierra Base? (!) No drama. That has a purpose in the delicate eco system.

It’s a congestion issue really. The cars are 4 deep on the drive and the shit ones aren’t taxed atm so cant be parked on the road for convenience.

This was all by hand.

G3 (really this does need a machine) then bog standard Tcut with some turtle wax on top.

I’ve got a cheap random polisher which I’m going to try when it’s dry. If that’s doesn’t improve things markedly I’ll buy a kit for my drill.

You can buy a decent mop from machine Mart for about £100 with a couple of heads, perhaps less on eBay, much better way and in all honesty it will last you a lifetime, amazing the results you can get from it plus a car like that could be done in a few hours rather than days.

Also, the amount of water used with the compound means it goes a lot further so it eventually pays for itself.

One more update on this before a final reveal when it’s done. I probably do need to buy a DA polisher as my little random orbital is fine for applying polish but not really quick enough to cut through and get it in.

However, it’s coming up very well with a combination of toy machine and manpower. That sticker is coming off..: then I need to get it connected up to Vag-Com to fix a few niggles.

Hope to have it ready in a fortnight.

Over.

These really are remarkably handsome vehicles, even though the rear light clusters do remind me of Chockablock's buttons. That looks amazing for a hand job (phnarr phnarr).

Red VW / Audi cars come up amazingly with a good buffing but keeping them red is nigh on impossible as far as i know

Try  CARR&DAY saddlesoap....the old one in a beige tin... it's the glycerine in it  that rejuices red paint

Realistically, I’ve gone as far as I can now - and it’s time to pop it up for sale. I know people say this frequently, but I do want to find this a good home. The previous owner was very, very fond of it. I was messing about with the idea of keeping it, but it will distract me from the Sierra which really needs proper and sincere use this year.

Here’s the breakdown.

Audi 80 Avant SE

1.6e engine

Super tight 5 speed manual

Feather light PAS (probably the lightest I’ve experienced)

Two brand new front tyres

Factory alloys

Boot liner and selection of Audi mats

Dealer stickers, tax holder and front plates

120,200 miles

Full MOT

Furthermore, eminent mechanic and top friend Alf892 has gone through it

New timing belt

New ignition switch

New crank sensor

New distributor

Oil and filters

New anti-freeze

I’ve given it a good drive, and it’s fabulous; by far the easiest car I’ve had to drive in years. The engine is busy, but with a little engine in a big car it’s best to keep things spinning.

I could go further with the car, but I’d need to tax it - and therefore put another owner on it, and being frank it’s not worth my whole.

The airbag light is on. I’ll be honest, I don’t care. If I was keeping it I’d be removing the bulb and probably changing the wheel to a non airbag one.

The temp gauge doesn’t move at all. Alf892 reckons a temp sender (£10) and I reckon a bit of solder on the back of the speedo. Let me know when you’ve fixed it for a refund of your costs. I did buy a sender, but bought the wrong bloody one!

Otherwise, it’s bob on. Alf got under it at the MOT and it’s factory fresh. Not even surface rust. Remember, these are galvanised AF.

Money? God knows. It may have been free but I’ve got a good few hundred in parts, ticket, tyres, fuel, etc blah tied up in it. I’d like the previous owner to have some money, and Alf if he will accept.

£700?

It’s been machine polished to the best of my ability with t-cut and two hours. You could go further with better products, more skill and a longer time frame. I like playing with my kids at the weekend though, so that’s it from me. I also didn’t want to go overboard in case the next owner covered it in pineapples and paint stripper.

erm...how do you use this on a car? surely the glycerine just stays on the bodywork as a mess

Bonny!

Never had an Audi.

Sadly:

*insert lots of generic excuses in relation to excessive distance and time and insufficient money*

Top work, looks flippin lovely. I'd be all over this like a flannel if I needed another car which I definitely, categorically do not.
